Do you think that drone would follow you down bike mountain trails?
No problem, but if you go too fast it might clip trees, I think it can max out around 20mph
Av never checked my speed, but I would think it's over 20mph. I'm on the hunt for a new drone this year just getting as much research as I can ❤ looks a fun place to ride. Nice video
Maybe the X hovers, but the Neo is practically indestructable, if you check my vids ive used it in Llandegla trails, but not fast.
At least it was fine
Always have the app or controller about yourself! For recovery purposes.
I had neither :(
Cant beat the occasional episode of Charge Fly Repeat. 😉
those are rockshox yari forks, fox doesnt even make 35 forks
Yes, I have no idea why I said Fox or 35
Hell I live in suffolk been blue skys and frost Don’t want any of that white stuff Shame about the Neo Obviously don’t like snow either
We dont get it very often by the coast.
Wow, at least you got it back
I did think it was a goner.
Man…that was crazy. Even crazier was that drop of death when the battery died. I thought it would descend before getting to that point. At least you were in an open area. Imagine having people around when that thing fell. Heart stopper. 😂
Yes luckily the sledgers left and it was clear, I was surprised it just dropped, maybe it thought it was just a few feet above the ground and turned off the motors
I have noticed with mine that when the battery runs too low, and the drone decides to head back i.e automatic ‘return to home’ kicks in…if your ‘return to home minimum height’ is set to, say 50m - it will go straight to that height, irrespective of what you are doing…. Maybe?
My Spark does that, but I don't think that was the cause, I feel it capped out from max height on gps.
Someone suggested contrasting clothing you sort of looking like you blending into the none snow covered bits a little. Havent tried it myself yet but i was having problems too.
I am wearing a pretty loud backpack, but I think it just looks for outlines
Flying in freezing, windy, snowy weather with a small drone meant for selfies...what could go wrong? lol
Exactly my thoughts
It seems like the ground sensors fogged up or something and it thinks its close to the ground and just went up probably due to the 1st crash warm drone cold snow? Mega footage at the beginning following ypu on the bike!
Yrs, it hss to be a combination of issues, if you watch the Fatbike Dream video, you can see flat areas of sand are no problem. th-cam.com/video/60CxXmBXDPI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xV-bKh89eiGxEVEw
See this video as reference with a demonstration of the stabilisation modes: th-cam.com/video/cUpKUSotrxA/w-d-xo.html Seemingly the drone was unable to stabilise itself by GPS (which it does first, when it has 10+ satellites) - the clouds must have shielded the GPS signal too much, and the Neo's GPS antenna is very small compared to bigger drones. Then it fell back to its visual stabilisation sensors on the bottom, which were either wet/covered by snow or the ground had not enough texture or both. Maybe it mistook the shape of the raindrops on the positioning sensors as the ground texture, and thought it was stable at too high power, ascended, then finally found enough GPS satellites again, switched back to GPS stabilisation, and just stayed there. And you didn't bring it down by phone or controller. That's the other issue. Even if it does drift as it did, you still have some control over it. So, as mentioned in the other video, when using it in such a textureless environment, check on the controller that it has like 15+ satellites connected at all times.
I didnt have one, tbh I accidently deleted the app a few days before, I should have deleted the app for my Spark. It wouldnt have reached anyway. Thanks for the link, I guess the sensors were getting confused and kept trying to raise the drone, Im lucky the gos locked in, can you limit the height on the Neo even when its in hand launch? It wasnt raining, just very light sleet, you can see it hitting the gopro, it might have got worse as it gained height.
@@chargeriderepeat7024 You're right that DJI gives a WiFi range of about 50m depending on the phone. With the remote controllers they give 1.5-10 km depending on interference in the environment. So your best bet would have probably been pulling the remote controller out of your pocket and getting it down using that. Which also has the upside of it constantly showing the number of satellites connected in the UI.
I use a UAV weather app that shows if it's safe to fly any specific drone including the Neo. You shouldn't have been flying it in that weather. The blades were likely to ice-up. You did everything wrong.
It was 1C, there was no freezing, the cause is almost certainly the large featureless snow area.
@@chargeriderepeat7024 Do you know the max wind speed for Neo :)
I lost 2 Neo’s using the remote. One above trees at the top of a small cliff. 100’ up. It lost satellite connection and drifted. DJI said I shouldn’t fly it with low satellite connection. It was 100’ up and clear open sky! I don’t get it. Second was 15’ up in my garden. It just flew off. Video shows it spinning until it lost connection. Luckily they are cheap. No 3 on the way.
You should get a bulk discount !
Mine flew away in similar conditions. I wasn't able to recover it.
I was lucky it kept sat lock
Wow, my flew away today too
I had my Neo with me in December while I was riding in snow, but I didn't try using it. I was wondering how it would function over snow, and you answered my question. Now there is more than two feet on my favorite trails, so I won't be biking until next week when they groom one of my local trails for a fat bike race. I was planning on using the drone after the race, however, now I figure it would be a waste of time. Thanks for the heads-up.
You can see its fine on the approach with foilage either side of my track, its when it hits a large area, it might be OK on a trail.
@@chargeriderepeat7024 Yes, you could be right. I'll give it a try.
Flying near a RAF base 🫣 in wet conditions 😬
It was closed due to the snow, I drive past it on the way , so wasnt really worried about a collision. For clarity Im in the runway extended height restriction, not the no fly zone.
Some crackimg shots
Bet that 7m felt like a life time
It did, luckily no one started walking by, but if it had started to drift back into the carpark, I might have been in trouble.
Can you post a link for this bike
Its a 2018 model, you can still buy the model in its latest form
Near a airport maybe interference
It was closed and a student trainer, but it does have a few aerials.
at least you got it back....most people watch them just fly off....DJI firmware fault
Glad you got it , such a cold day it should’ve run out of battery even quicker than that particular at the altitude. Somebody commented about the sensor having snow on it was probably exactly what happened. At least it was easy to find and fun watching it tumble.😂
Did you fly it straight after switching on? I noticed on remote, it takes at least 15 sec to get a lock with decent number of gps sats. I can imagine it goes haywire if you fly it right away, with snow texture on visual guidance, and no GPS sat lock.
It was doing fine for two minutes and it did rise up perfectly straight and hold position
I believe the flyaway occured because it was too cold and wet which caused the gps unit to go crazy - would love to see the footage from the drone.
Well that is the footage from height, and the wobbly first ascent.
@@chargeriderepeat7024 Can you post the full video - as it's hard to see when the drone flew away and when it came back - this would be most insightful.
The fact that the drone had no more power saved the day. Maybe it is also for me the best to buy a Neo. They only have 7 to 9 minutes of flight time. With a drone with a bigger battery you can stand staring at the sky for more than half an hour until it automatically comes down.
Its only done it once in hundreds of flights and if you have the phone or controller connected you can just land it.
I crashed my neo in the snow, cleaned off the worst snow and got it airborne again. About 10 seconds in when I was at about 30m the phone said something like “unable to stabilize “ or something similar. And the drone just banked to the side and crashed into a cow pen. So yeah I’ll be more careful in the snow from now on.
Hilaroiusly lsst night I was shown a youtube promotion short from DJI of people using the Neo to film snowmobiles
atleast this still a happy ending. Got my Neo freaked out on me sometimes to. it went mad an thrashing and bumping everywhere and then fortunately after a few moments it stopped. Maybe DJI should look into this issue and patch it.
In the event of a flyaway, try turning the controller off, that should initiate a return to home.
Thanks,I'll remember that when I buy one :)
If you use remote control, it's ok. Problem if you use it autonomously....it will just do whatever it think is right if it cannot see the ground and no GPS
DJI advises against flying in temperatures below 14°F (-10°C) for most drones especially Neo. Avoid low-altitude flights over thick or reflective snow to prevent visual sensor malfunctions. Luckily you got your drone back 🙏
Yes, yes, but who reads the manual :)
@@chargeriderepeat7024 i guess none, including me XD
Think you got some snow on the sensor for the ground radar, had the same thing happen with my Avata 2
I didnt check, but it already crashed, so it didnt like snow at all.
‘Fly in a well lit textured environment’ 👍🏻
It was bright enough, you can see when I left the foilage and hit the snow, thats when it lost position.
@ Textured is the key, it’s the flat white surface of the snow that causes problems, it will react the same over water I’ve done coastline stuff with mine but try to stay high and haven’t had any problems 👍🏻
Sorry dude, but three mistakes. In snow sensors can not get enough information for positioning. Don't start a wet drone. And don't ride fat slicks in snow or rename your channel in Buy. Destroy, Repeat.
Could it be too cold. What was the footage like in the end?
That was the footage, I didnt post seven minutes of it looking straight down :)
Good thing you're not a real pilot, just thinking about flying a small drone like this in this weather it's kind of.....................
Would love some snow. "Come on you bugger run out of battery" is fantastic 😂
Lucky you got your drone back, I don't think the little Neo likes water, snow and low light
Those Magura horns 🙂
At least theyre not drum brakes. Boom boom tish.
Happened to me too when flying it on its own, no controller or phone. Took off sideways but luckily flew into some tall grass. Was a nightmare to find it though. There needs to be a beeper that starts up if it's upside down to help find it.
Yes I lost in in thick ferns for half an hour, you can connect the phone and make it beep.
@chargeriderepeat7024 I had no phone with me at the time so that wasn't an option
Be sure to clean the sensors on the bottom from any snow or debris. From what I have seen if the sensors are covered the drone will want to climb.?
Thats the weird bit, climbing to that height isnt good, what If Id lost sight of it and left then it falls on some kids head
@ there is a programming issue with the neo. If you use the motion controller and the light gets too low the drone will go crazy and accelerate wide open and will also rises and you have to force it back down using be joystick control on the motion controller. so apparently if the lower sensors are blocked or don’t see light it doesn’t know what to do. But otherwise it all around great little drone.
My neo doesn't like snow! Like flying over water. After he first crash it may also have had snow/ice on the sensors underneath.
Yes, I didnt check the sensors
Great video, man. Subbed. Can I ask where this beach is located?
Cheers, its in northwest England above Liverpool, you can see it in other videos, gorgeous forest and dunes. Have a look at my fatbike dream video, you can get some stunning footag here and its empty in the week.
poor neo...didnt like the snow...to reflective perhaps..like you not really ideally meant to fly over water
Yes I've since discovered large areas of snow are not a good idea either
hey a fun ride - yup slippy 4 sure ;) I thought I wanted a drone like that & watched many yt vids and its [for me, anyway] its fun to watch others enjoy them.
Yup, even the neo is just a little bit of hassle, but Im cool with it now.
We Poles call an unpleasant situation that might result in more unpleasantries a "ZONK" (a slang word) :) Here, the ZONK full scale! :)
Zonked out when youre fast asleep, wish Id stayed like that today :)
@@chargeriderepeat7024 Haha!
lol. I had a drone....once. It's third flight found the bottom of a creek. Have fun in the snow !!
I remember it Randy, I think they used it in Ukraine
you will be amazed for the amount of grip when ditching the bald jumbo Jims for all mighty's or a set Surly Bud and Lou's. JJ's are great for summer beach at low pressure, and are most light weight, but I will never mount them again. 45Nrth vanHelga's are also awesome..
Yes, but it snows like once a year here and I do a good bit of road, I cant take that noise 😂
@@chargeriderepeat7024 yes, one of the down sides of having grip.. although my buddy rides the all mighty;s and they are definatly a lot more silent than the surly's
Sorry its more about drones than bike rides, it was soooo cold standing there waiting
