CLIP DESCRIPTION:
King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) gives the messenger from Xerxes a powerful message of his own.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Sin City author Frank Miller's sweeping take on the historic Battle of Thermopylae comes to the screen courtesy of Dawn of the Dead director Zack Snyder. Gerard Butler stars as Spartan King Leonidas and Lena Headey plays Queen Gorgo. The massive army of the Persian Empire is sweeping across the globe, crushing every force that dares stand in its path. When a Persian envoy arrives in Sparta offering King Leonidas power over all of Greece if he will only bow to the will of the all powerful Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), the strong-willed leader assembles a small army comprised of his empire's best fighters and marches off to battle. Though they have virtually no hope of defeating Xerxes' intimidating battalion, Leonidas' men soldier on, intent on letting it be known they will bow to no man but their king. Meanwhile, back in Sparta, the loyal Queen Gorgo attempts to convince both the skeptical council and the devious Theron (Dominic West) to send more troops despite the fact that many view Leonidas' unsanctioned war march as a serious transgression. As Xerxes' fearsome "immortals" draw near, a few noble Greeks vow to assist the Spartans on the battlefield. When King Leonidas and his 300 Spartan warriors fell to the overwhelming Persian army at the Battle of Thermopylae, the fearless actions of the noble fighters inspired all of Greece to stand up against their Persian enemy and wage the battle that would ultimately give birth to the modern concept of democracy.

"Killing a messenger sends a message "

Do you know the history behind this scene

"This is Sparta" Dumbledore said Calmly
Is this a Harry Potter reference?
“HARRY DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?!” Dumbledore asked calmly
I love that even in a big display of leadership he has a moment of doubt and looks to his wife. One look and a nod she tells him she’s by his side. That’s how a partner should be.
No. mgtow
Worked out well for him, no doubt.
Every great kings needs a woman who will support him!! Too bad, we don't see this kind of women anymore
They don’t make them like that anymore.
@@L1Run He got the kind of death he would have wanted, and his people ended up free. I'd say it ended about as well as it could have.
I love the way his eyes narrow just a bit after the Queen's nod. He looks to the Queen for confirmation and then becomes resolute in his decision. Amazing scene.
QUEEN!
Not confirmation. He needed to know she understood what was about to happen and she nods letting him know she's ready to accept the consequences.

I haven't seen this movie! And just off what I've seen here, I must agree. That messenger wasn't very bright! IMO
passing himself off as a Persian messenger while being that… tall. I mean
I saw it coming but it was still shocked me for some reason

Gerrard Butler as King Leonidas is unforgettable 🔥🔥🔥
Went from Dracula, Opera Ghost, to a Spartan King.
XERXES: "Why did you kill my messenger?"
LEONIDAS: "My wife said I could."
Always stand on the edge of an infinite deep pit when you threaten someone in his own home.
IKR, so dumb
@@MichelMawon4982 why dumb ?
he's the messenger, his job is to deliver the message, the king walked him there, so he follow him, what part of it is dumb ?
@@camapdien I think standing at the edge of a pit (particularly with your back turned) would have been a really poor decision under the best conditions as losing your footing is too easy. I'm not referring to him having a skepticism of the king or what reaction his message might provoke though he should have.

Noel Bailey Spartan women were very powerful for women at the time. They had far more rights than most other Greek women, and don't forget Sparta saw its women as the final line of defence. They were trained from a young age as well, though less vagariously than the men.
In many occasions I've seen people refer to a frontal kick to the chest with the bottom of your foot as a "Sparta Kick".
It's just *that* iconic.
“The Spartans send their regards”
Arguably this movie's most iconic moment, and it exists because Gerard Butler wanted just one take to try the line a bit differently.
What even was the original line
@@josh-kg1rb it was the same words, just whispered in the guys ear. He felt very embarrassed but was told it was amazing

My husband and I always watch this part about five times before we proceed. We love it, this is Sparta!!!!
I love how much respect he has for his queen. Behind every strong man is a strong woman. This is Sparta!!!
It would have been easy for Leonidas to kill the messenger on the spot, but the messenger did insult the queen. Therefore, by turning his head to look at her he gave her the right to have a say allow her the right to bestow judgment against the messenger.
Fun fact: The guy that played leonidas wasn’t actually supposed to scream this is Sparta, but he did and the director liked it so much that he kept it
what should he say maybe madness again?
