Great review. I love them. Whenever i try to show a section of their music to others, everything that comes before or after is just equally magical. I cant stop and say hey, i like this song the most from the album. It comes to a point where i cant even decide which song i like the least… i like everything released. Im quite certain that semjaza wont release anything that i wont like, and im kinda glad that they dont click with any person i share to instantly, semjaza is only extrapolating when youre alone and in the silence
"Similar to Nightbringer, Acherontas, and Deathspell Omega", you went right ahead and named off a big chunk of my favorite bands! 😁 I agree with you a lot on this review. Great album in my opinion, and it does run a bit longer than it needs to. The musicianship is, as it always is with Thy Darkened Shade, top-notch. It's technical with a purpose; it doesn't get obnoxious. I enjoyed this record a lot, and my main complaint is that a lot of the ideas on this record sound like rehashed ideas from Liber Lvcifer I. Even some of the riffs are near-identical. Definitely one of my favorites from this year, and I think the more I listen to it, the more small things I pick up in their music. Great review, my man!
I'm not sure why but I've found myself getting more sensitive to overlong albums. There's just so much music to listen to nowadays that if you aren't one of my absolute favorite bands ever I don't need an album longer than 45 minutes from you. 😂 I'm probably just spoiled by the sheer number of great bands out there. "Technical with a purpose" is a perfect description, it never felt self-indulgent. I need to revisit Liber Lvcifer I now because I'm sure I'll like it more. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed this record, even with the middling latter half and overlong running time. Another similar Greek band that I think you'll enjoy more is Wampyrinacht, its similar enough but it's a bit less extravagant and grandiose, and more aggressive. The main instrumentalist on a Bardo interview said his bass and guitar playing is primarily influenced by Rush and Mercyful Fate respectively, which it shows and in a good way.
I'll check them out today, thanks for the suggestion! I'm usually into the vampyric thing so long as it's not the absolute bottom of the barrel in terms of effort. I'm having an interesting experience where I'm getting more into classic heavy metal through black metal bands who are clearly inspired by that style of playing.
@@AveMors I can guarantee they aren't the usual bedroom midi drum machine "raw" Wampyric black metal from the Transylvania Crypt Castle in the suburbs of California by a dude named Steve aka Depressed Phantom from the Unholy Coffin lol
@@AveMors it surely is a lot to take in at once. I myself can sit through the whole thing, im in awe and admiration, it feels timeless because i cant pick and choose my favourite parts
@@AveMors mahapralaya is much easier to comphrehend in mirror of khem sedjet for me. The abrupt element withint the progression of structures is still here, but its way less confusing… i guess thats what khem sedjet focused on. No matter how many times ive listened to it, the progression catches me of guard every single time
We definitely differ on this album. haha.... I just don't like these overtly, musically dense, ADHD types of black metal. No shade on their musical and technical ability, it just wears me out and bores me to tears at the same time. But hey, still a great review, and once again beautiful terrain you're stomping around in!
Haha I totally hear you, more or less how I felt about them before this record. But that’s part of the beauty of black metal, there are so many different subsubgenres to explore.
I find their overwhelming relentlessness really engaging, the phrasing and textures, the meter is off the hook which gives it such a deep level of delicate intricacies, while making your way through and trying to deconstruct the chaos within. Tempo changes and rapid shifting really manages to catch me off guard and from there my attention is enveloped within a maelstorm, from every nuance in the variations of riffs and all of the technical flairs, all of it being ascending/descending type of occult and burnt thrash metal riffs. The call and response element between the bass and guitars is remarkable as so is each one of their aspects. Maybe will give you a glimpse of why i love khem sedjet

Well said, these albums are clearly meant to be listened to front to back. I'm also a big fan of Acrimonious, hope they release some new music soon.

@@Falxifer95 That is a hilarious description and thankfully you were exactly right, I really dig this project.
Been on a DsO kick for the past few months, so I had to check this out. Great record
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
The last song might feel like that for you because liber lvcifer III is commng
That's fair, I hadn't considered that. I'm not sure I'll ever sit down and listen to all three records in a row though haha.
