As an aside, perfect spot for a review, framing and background is ace! \m/
Dude it really is amazing up there, and Rachel did a great job filming!
Its a huge investment. Been through the whole thing twice. I really like the production, sounds massive if a little more rawer than I'm Wald. I think I like Im Wald a tad bit better but really you can't go wrong with his stuff. Perfect timing to be socked into the winter and accompany the Wanderer's journey!
Yeah it really does sound huge! Less "flat" than pretty much everything else to date. I'm not sure I can pick between this and Im Wald yet, but I do appreciate that it's 45 minutes shorter lol.
Show balls?

In this video at 3:28 you mentioned you know of other artists that do Panopticon's style of folk better. Would you be able to list some for me? would love to check em out
@@todddouglas7231 Osi and the Jupiter comes immediately to mind. Blood and Sun is another fantastic one.
Christian Black Metal fan here. Really enjoyed this discussion. Since getting into the genre I've sought after a particular sound/atmosphere that Black Metal provides, lyrics usually come secondary. I love me some Panopticon, Paysage Dhiver, Altar of Plagues. If anyone knows any christian BM style bands that are similar in vibe to any of these, especially with any lyrics about end times/revelation type stuff, im all ears
Man, that's an interesting question. I know quite a few Christian black metal bands, but I'm not sure I can think of any that play the more atmospheric style you're looking for.
Cool 😎🤘🏻❄️🌲
Agree with your initial thoughts. I’m a big fan of his older stuff, but enjoy most of the new (I didn’t bother with Geister). I’ve also listened to Die Berge twice now and to me some of it kind of harkens back to the older stuff but definitely with better production. Agree with the Das Tor comparison. I think Die Berge is a pretty awesome album!!
Geister really grew on me, but I generally enjoy the older stuff more. But I'm very excited to dig into Die Berge more and more, feels like there's a lot to unpack. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
sound of Urgrund is colossal, ancient, and unforgiving. It was like a titan erupting from the mountain's core, channeling the raw, ancient force of the earth itself. riffs are like the heartbeats of the primordial void, embodying the crushing weight of timeless, mythic power. As in other compositions, it's Cold, desolate, yet cathartic-a monolithic presence that shatters the silence of the void! Hail the winter! Ave, Keep it up!
Well said! Maybe you should be the one doing reviews haha. Yes, the first two tracks are especially good, but I'm sure I'll discover more to love as I keep listening.
@@AveMors Schnee 4 is still favourite
@@DavitVadatchkoria I saw you mention that on the other video. I'll have to give it yet another listen today.
@@AveMors Great idea! Listen to Schnee 2 afterward. Tobias once mentioned in an interview that he was crying throughout the entire 10 minutes of recording vocals for Schnee 2.
Schnee 4 is best black metal song ever
Looks like hikes are back on the menu boys. Looked like a great one! Look forward to check out the band. Bet your stoked on the season getting out there! I think when it comes to production, lately I dig that new Mork. Sounds great but also retains a bit of grit and grim. Look forward to more!!
Absolutely stoked! Have some fun trips lined up for the rest of the year and there are a couple peaks I have my eye on. Dude that Mork record is great! I gotta give it some more time.
Excellent album and an excellent review man. Great stuff on your channel.
Cheers, thanks so much for the comment!
Allegedly, one of the members of this band was in Sorhin, which explains the quality. Really good stuff and I agree with the production talk, especially the part of the deluge of "raw" black metal bands out of the woodwork.
Ohh yeah, that was mentioned in Bardo Methodology, right? Skogsgriftens Rike is their only release I've checked out but it's great.
I need to pull this one back out and give it a spin again, I got it back when it came out. I do like this project quite a bit!
I didn't realize I LOVE this project until this release.
HE IS BACK! 🙌🙌
Hopefully I can start uploading more than twice a year haha.
🤘🤘🤘
Sounds like it was pretty windy out
It wasn't.
Agreed, it looked and sounded really windy out there 😂
You're actually right. Wintherr stated in an interview that Im Wald and Geister were written more or less at the same period of time. And overall a great review and landscape. PDH is one of the greatest.
Glad I picked up on that! I gotta say, Geister has really grown on me, and I liked it a lot to begin with. I heard him say in an interview that it's the only album he would even consider playing live. Paysage d'Hiver is my all time favorite. So excited for the new record.
@@AveMors yeah I watched that same interview and can definitely see why it's the only one fitting for a live setting. couldn't really imagine stuff from the self titled or Kristall & Isa for example to be played live. and yes the two singles have been great, stoked to hear the whole record.
@@PWH666 I was in shock when I saw he did a video interview. I guess we all mellow out as we age haha.
@@AveMors me too man, I never thought he'd do a video interview. but damn was it a delight to watch.
that's a perfect place to listen to black metal!
Couldn't agree more!
Hails!!!
I'm not into Cookie Monster vocals. However, Aquilus scratches a specific itch that no other band satisfies.
I cannot explain which feelings arise, however, whenever I hear this it's different.
Wtf Agalloch is back?! Fuck yeah bois! 🤘
Really Peak Paysage d´Hiver. All his experience with the previous records, was completed here in perfection. The high point in this case also means, that it never got as good again after that. You could really tell from the last two albums. Maybe he should have ended the project with "Das Tor".
@@currentofthesnake8486 I’d be so sad if he stopped recording there haha. I think it’s his best album but he’s released some amazing stuff since then! Including the single that just came out.
@@AveMors I dont know. I was little dissapointed with "Im Wald". It hadn´t the same spark or magic like his other work.
The album supplication is amazing
How did I miss this? Hopefully they come back to LA soon!
They're just geniuses in their sound crafting. Indeed unique! Thanks for filming this, one of my favorite songs of the life, they sound better now than ever, such a blessing they've came back.
Couldn't agree more! Very thankful to have seen them. Wouldn't be surprised if they play many more shows.
Nice review! Subscribed
I appreciate it!
Hello from France, I discovered your channel thanks to Alaskan Bergwanderer which I also really like! Superb videos, no unnecessary words, vegetation and wildlife, quiet hiking as I like! Thank you very much for sharing, one more subscriber in solidarity between hikers and TH-camrs! Thank you, Laurent🙂👍
Cheers man, I appreciate the comment! Alaskan Bergwanderer has a great channel. I'll definitely subscribe to you!
@@AveMors Thank you very much for your message as well, looking forward to following your next releases! 🙂👍
that's some pretty awful clean vocals
Welcome back sir! It is quite the album, for sure..great stuff.
Thank you king, been listening to this one quite a bit
Great review and scenery as always.
Thank you king
Glad to see you back my friend, your videos are so good and very original, love seeing the beautiful nature you hike in, and good review of this epic album
I really appreciate it, good to be back!
Does anyone know if they are paying in NYC in July?
Need to check this album. So far this year I've been listening to a lot of noise rock and post-punk, and way too much Shellac and Big Black (RIP Steve Albini), but the best black metal albums I've heard so far from this year are the latest Oppressive Descent; Sulphuric Wrath, Flamekeeper's self-titled debut, Primitive Warfare's Extinction Protocol, The Infernal Sea's Hellfenlic and Nimbifer's Der böse Geist.
I don't think I've listened to any of these except The Infernal Sea haha. Thanks for returning the favor!
@@AveMors Sure thing.
Nimbifer and Candelabrum been getting the most listens for me so far this year.
Awesome, two new records I haven't even heard of haha.
I actually found this band when I was looking for bands that sound like Opeth when I was 16 or so lmao.
That makes complete sense to me!
Sweet! I thought you abandoned this channel - Always loved your recs and reviews
I appreciate you saying so!
great to have you back. I know what I'm listening to this afternoon!
Thanks so much, good to be back!
lucky !!
I really appreciate a lot this band, I'd do anything to listen to a new album 🦌 Sadly I never had the opportunity to see them alive 😐
They are not dead.
Which country are u in rn? They are coming to Australia out of all places hence really you have a chance.
LENDAS.
Best fucking band
kings of black metal
Missing your videos dude!
I appreciate you saying so! Lost the motivation for video making a bit but I’m planning to get back into it soon.

@@MrDamburger These are excellent ideas! I actually have a list of video topics on my phone so I'll add these. I really like the Drudkh idea actually, that would force me to really intentionally listen to all of their albums again.
@@AveMors awesome! Hope to see some stuff soon, Drudkh are a band that really seek their teeth into you when you delve back into their albums, everything is top notch, especially stuff like blood in our wells, forgotten legends

this used to be the best music on ifunny back in like 2015 LMAO
Hello! I would like get you this concert full, do you interested in share it?
Those are some legit criticisms of RABM, I appreciate the intelligence behind that statement. Rosa Luxemborg I think they are called are pretty solid, not even sure if they are really Black metal its more just chaotic and fast, but interesting. I agree about it going both ways, but Ashenspire and Dawn Ray'd are both perfect examples of bands I just can't get into cause its cheeseball as fuck, more so the latter who just reminds me of that preppy cool kid in high school who wanted to pretend he was interesting so he got into "Black metal" and grew his hair out. Thing is, the very few NS related bands I enjoy are in a different language or its something completely unrelated. Even if Finist was good, which they are not they are laughably bad, I could never take them seriously for the same exact reason. I'd rather have something like Downfall of Gaia, that is more an introspective and existential analysis of the downfall of society.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the kind words! Could you link me to Rosa Luxemborg? I can't seem to find it but I'm definitely interested in hearing it. I've given Dawn Ray'd so many chances, even seen them live, and it just doesn't quite work for me. I don't hate it (and even if I did I wouldn't talk about it), but you're right that something about it feels forced. But as a broader point, they could be singing about vampires and I still probably wouldn't enjoy it that much. Lyrics are secondary in extreme metal, and even if a band is racist I'm under no obligation to go study their lyrics. But yeah, Downfall of Gaia is great! And clearly they lean left.
Man, I love these guys. Such excellent tunes.
I hope they come to the UK. Not sure if they will but I can only hope. I love this band so fucking much
