Very nice. I love those shorter videos that just give a little peak of whats going on with new stuff that might be comming soon.

Great video Brian - like the change of scenery and your multi angle views. Towards the end it looked like you were practically surfing along!

Throwing a sail on a skinny kayak certainly adds dimension to your trip.
I've had my 18 ft composite boat surfing on a local lake over 10 mph.
I brought mine on an Everglades Challenge after watching so many other people benefit from it. Unfortunately, we were under a small craft advisory for most of the 300 mile course and my mast was strapped to the deck for the 3-6 ft chop.

Good to see your technique for bringing your overturned kayak back upright with the sail unfurled. I'm going to have to try that sometime. Your sailing kayak would benefit enormously with the addition of a rear rudder. It would save all that single sided correctional paddling.
I have a Dagger Exodus sea kayak, with rudder as std. KayakSailor 1.4m sail with 0.2m genoa, also quite large homemade outriggers that are easily detachable to use the sea kayak as standard & for easy lifting & transport upon the roof of my car. The outriggers provide so much additional stability & confidence, especially in high cross winds.
    Regards, JohnnyK from the UK.

Sails and rudders do work well together, but rudders and skin on frame kayaks don’t. You can do it but it’s neither simple nor elegant, and for me the whole point of skin on frame is that I can build it for $500 in a week. I might drop a skeg into the next one but I don’t think I would go as far as a rudder. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Just wanted to ask whether it's possible to roll with a sail, but you've foreseen my question. Nice build!

What speeds can you reach with that sail?

the greatest Mariners of all time.... the Polynesians!
how about a couple of small outriggers when using sail?!

Unfortunately there’s no elegant way to do that and have it still function as a normal kayak.

@@capefalconkayak - a pair of paddles angled into water with a top-hull rig, one to port, one to staerbord, with canoe-shaped pool noodles (foam) on the end of each?
