A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. This was my favorite RTS back when I was a kid!
Edit after watching: There are a couple mods/extensions nowadays for Generals Zero Hour which help solve a couple of issues that Uberdanger had - specifically the performance and then the screen resolution issues!
For Kit particularly if he reads this, there are several larger mods for Red Alert 2 (my favorite being Mental Omega) which are fantastic :D

Command and Conquer: Red Alert was the first video game I ever played on a computer. My dad bought me the whole collection when I was 12, which was around the time I got a legit PC and not an emulator for a game that required a joystick. It also spawned a love of RTS games that would extend to the Total War franchise, the rest of the C&C franchise, HOI4, Stellaris, Crusader Kings...hell, I even use RTS aspects in games like Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord.

Fun Fact! The modding communities for these games were legendary.Besides Rise of the Reds, Shockwave, and Cold War Crisis for Generals ZH (all of which could be installed simultaniosly and run off of their own launchers). The most extreme example that comes to mind is where a bunch of autistic super nerds modded the entirety of C&C3 (campaigns and multiplayer included) into the Red Alert 2 engine.
Literally NO ONE has uploaded reaction videos for ANY of Uberdanger’s videos, and that’s a damn crime. Not only is he absolutely hilarious, but his videos are all wildly unique and creative in their own rights. Please react to more of his videos!
I have always prefered the Tiberium Wars timeline, I grew up playing Tiberium Dawn and so on, and I still play to this day. In the name of Kane!

Generals, Warcraft 3, red alert 2, age of empire and age of mythology were the RTS games of my childhood. I still have my C&C pc box from those days. It had both Generals and generals zero hour in it along with Command and conquer renegade and another CC game.

Both Generals and the Zero Hour expanions were both so horrendously unbalanced, though I've always felt that's part of their charm.
Westwood's demise seems like it was just foreshadowing to the great RTS drought of the past two decades, the only good RTS games I remember playing over that period are Company of Heroes, WH4K: Dawn of War and World In Conflict.
You should really look into "Scorched Earth"'s Red Alert 2 Montage videos. I love learning that another person adored Red Alert 2 as much as I do. Greetings, Commander.
I know this video is years old but Generals was such a good game. I've played command and conquer since I was 5 with the first one I've played them all and love all the games except the one we don't talk about (Command and conquer 4) I still play Generals and Generals Zero Hour. All the games were recently released on steam in the collection and was the best thing EA ever did. Miss being able to play them all online.
I grew up playing RA1, RA2, Tibdawn, Tibsun and generals. I own every C&C game made for the PC (unfortunately even the 4th), and while the quality drastically dropped after Westwood went under (RIP) the General's series, C&C 3, and RA3 are still pretty good. The Remastered Originals are great as well. The soundtracks are still some of favorites to this day. May Frank Klepacki bless game soundtracks forevermore.

Red Alert 2 and Tiberium Sun are Gold Generals is like Silver
The resolution problem could be easily solved using gentool. It helps increase resolution but does not stretch the screen and you can change the camera height

i played C&C GEN and zero hour and i still play it but now i just play the ROTR mod
12:03 i guess Command and conquer generals predicted duterte's "make philippines a province of china" joke LMAO.
C&C generals was the first shift into 3D so yeah the graphics looks abit bad. The gameplay on the other hand i found to be quite good. Specificly the cash generation system. No longer would u have to wait for a Tiberium field to grow back as that litterly took ages and other then the early missions u rarely could win the mission without mining out the Tiberium fields close to your base and sadly the most effective way to win was to just starve the enemy out of Tiberium rather then to overpower there base defences. In Generals even after the supply pallets was empty u still have access to cash generating buildings/units to keep your income up.
Hopefully one day we can say rip EA for ruining our childhoods

Now I need to reinstall Generals.
Contra 009 is MUCH more fun mod than ROTR. Lots more new units and factions.

Most of the stuff this guy says is wrong. I've never had issues click outside the program, and none of the mods have any issue with the EA / Origin version. Oh, and GLA is boring. Turtling is WAY more fun, which is why everyone prefers it. And no performance issues unless you get an insane number of units.
