A survey indicated that people who like surveys are more likely to complete them. I worked for a company that paid $$ to customers who bought a car to complete a survey about their satisfaction with the process. They used this survey to determine the conversion rate for their memberships (ie, how many members using their service wound up buying a car), and used that to extrapolate for cases where customers bought a car but didn't complete the survey. They couldn't comprehend that there was an inherent bias towards customers who had purchased vehicles, thus skewing their results in their favor. Surveys are garbage. Because EV sales are increasing annually, there are more New drivers of BEVs than there are experienced EV drivers. Meanwhile, Hybrids have been out for years, so there are more experienced hybrid drivers than new. My take away is that the survey shows that BEV sales are increasing despite new BEV drivers being dissatisfied with public CHARGING options.

I love hybrids, I use to drive one. I drive an ev now. But they both share: less maintenance, less break dust on rims, and more cost effective go-anywhere freedom 🙌🏼
After 50 years of buying ICE vehicles for our business and personal use we bought a Tesla model Y. If you have a parking spot to charge over night they are fantastic. A much much better car than the previous Mazda CX5, Honda CRV and Subaru Foresters we owned and much much cheaper. We save $65 (Australian) per week in fuel costs and the car costs $60,800 (Aust). That is a saving of more than $30,000 over 10 years. A top of the range Mazda CX5 which is a nice car but still not as good as the Model Y is the same upfront cost. Why are people buying hybrids there is absolutely no way I would consider a mechanically complicated hybrid. They are only designed to keep service dependant dealers in business and your wallet empty.
And once plug-in hybrid owners realize that all they mainly use is the electric drive alone they'll want more of it instead of the small battery pack that comes in the hybrid. Then they'll realize they should have just went ahead and got a full BEV.
Until they go on a drive vacation...a plug in hybrid is a good transition and reduces range anxiety not to mention not having to wait for recharge times when people have limited time on vacation
Even if you run the gas engine in a hybrid only a short time, you still need annual oil changes or they will likely deny any warranty coverage. Motor oil can generate acids and other engine destructive chemicals just sitting as additives break down over time.
I love my low, low maintenance EV! Reliable! Charge at home. I do not miss going to gas stations but no engine or transmission fluid dropping on driveways, streets etc that should be toxic to everyone & everything!
"slowdown in EV demand" "EVs highest growing segment" news bi-polarity is amusing. I think it would make more sense to report that market laggards are cancelling orders, which drop lithium prices for the market leaders that tap into that glut for their various EV/storage related operations.
Yeah why own one drivetrain when you can own two? The legacy auto makers must think we were born yesterday. In some ways hybrids are a "worst of both worlds solution". All the complexity (and more) of an ICE and most of the weight of an EV. Plus all those sweet, sweet servicing bills to look forward to.
Hybrids require all the costly maintenance of an ICE vehicle, doesn't gain the higher performance of an EV. Hybrids cost more to purchase than their ICE counterparts, cost more to repair, and if you get that hybrid to last as long as an ICE car, you'll end up paying for a costly battery replacement. Yep, its the worst of both, not the best of either.
@@buddy1155 Worst of both worlds actually: Less efficiency and performance than pure EV, more complexity/manufacturing costs/reliability issues than ICE. For example while EVs are 60 times less likely to have fires than ICE, Hybrids are twice as likely as ICE to cause fires, based on gov data. Hybrids are a bridge solution that trade cost/complexity/performance for flexibility - ala smartphones with tactile keyboards, which eventually died out when the iPhone came out.

My crystal ball says the price of lithium is dropping because the demand for EVs is leveling or at least slowing down compared to the wild prediction from just a few years back that was driving the price up. That ball also says the price parity is a good start, but is not enough to drastically increase the demand for EVs.
Mazda needs to get some good no-plug hybrid CX-5, CX-30 & Mazda3 vehicles onto the market & into the USA. Looks like their first one will be the 2025 CX-50 that uses Toyota's hybrid system & engine, but I have no interest in the CX-50 & prefer smaller vehicles than that.
