1st. impressions are everything, regardless of sounds. The G11 would be a bit much for me to look at on an everyday basis, I prefer a more utilitarian appearance. I agree with your conclusion.
BOSS and ZOOM should work together. My favourite FX processor would have the user interface and looper/drum computer integration of ZOOM and the sound processing of Boss.
I consider that the differences in sound between all the brands is that in some models they have more presence, brightness, bass, etc or vice versa. I gues you can match them teaking each EQ. I had the Zoom G6 and I couldn't get used to its UI (unit interface). So I bought the Zoom G11 and for me it has the perfect and intuitive UI. All models centralize the functions and modifications on the LCD screen. The merit of the G11 is that the LCD screen is useful, but secondary. On the one hand, it has a separate amplifier block with its own knobs. Secondly and more importantly, it has 5 blocks, similar to pedals where we not only see 5 effects that make up the patch we are using, but we can also modify each one of them with their knobs, turn on or off each of them, again like regular pedals..without touching the LCD screen. . If the chain has 9 effects, with scroll you access the hidden ones. simpler impossible. Just my humble opinion that is suitable for the use and features that I need and use
I hope it really can be tweaked! Because here Zoom sounded really bad, like some multi FX from 90s. Very disappointing, because I love the interface concept. While real amp and Boss sounded great.
Thank you for the review, Leo. Very informative. I have a couple of older/smaller Zoom products (G3 and G5n) and like them for what they are. So with that history with Zoom products, I really wanted to like the G11 but just couldn't. It's ok but I agree, in that general price point, there are better products. Also, really enjoyed your song at the end!
Thank you Jenni, I'm glad that you've found the video interesting and useful, and that you have enjoyed the demo song!!! Thank you also for sharing your opinion and experience...and yes...expecially at it's launch date the price was really to high...to it has decreased...but there is a lot of competition in that price range...
@@GuitarAge If you listen to the factory presets, then this is true. Helix is a complex device and it takes a lot of time to get great sound. I have been using it for a year now and have not even gotten to know 50% of its capabilities. For this part, Boss and Mooer are simpler, but their sound ... Helix is another generation of sound, the level of Fractal Audio. Boss and Mooer - toys for children :)
Hey Leo, please please do a video on how you approach your playing. The scales, chord tones, the notes.....how you navigate the fretboard.I absolutely love your fusion-ish playing!!!
Hi, for some reason the message was in the list of messages to be approved... Thank you, I'm happy that you like my playing...and I will think about your suggestion!
Thank you Leo. Im a huge Zoom fan but did not like the muffled tones. In my opinion they lack a special 'something'. Off topic, I wonder if you would consider doing a technical video - you know, explaining how you track and how/if you reamp for the tests, or do you record the parts two or more times? I would be very interested in the process! Anyway, thank you once again for the great video!
You are welcome!!! Typically I play one time and then I reamp. That's the only way I can guarantee a consistent sound between modelers...otherwise the differences in sounds between modelers could derive from my playing. Nevertheless I will think about a video explaining the process. Thank you for your message!
I like the sound of the boss a LOT more, and I disagree about the USB type-c is a plus - it's convenient, but the type-b is much more reliable. Anyway, the zoom is cheaper and easier to use, so they're both pretty good. Thank you very much. You are making best guitars and etc. comparisons I've ever seen.
These zoom processors r not a joke, they r cheap but very professional sounds and great power and realistic sounds, not to mention they don't make noises
You are welcome, I'm happy that you enjoyed the video...As regards your question, well is hard to tell, but I slightly prefer the boss. Thank you for your question!
Very helpful and good video, straight to the point, one of the bests channels. It is possible connect the Zoom G11 to a mixer? If is possible is kind of "mono zoom g11 to line on mixer?" or that is another way to do? Thanks Leo
Hi, Yes it is. The only problem is that it does not have the XLR output like the Boss, therefore you have to use TS cable. Thank you for your message and I'm really happy that you find the video useful!
While price is a concern, I am glad I have the GT-1000 because it sounds better. Why save $300 if you will know that you would be much more satisfied with Boss? Maybe mooer or Helix stomp will save money and sound better than Zoom. It is just my opinion, and the Zoom is not bad, though. Almost no multi-effect pedal available sounds better than Boss with the Marshall amp type model, and they have some of the best effects available. Thank you for the comparison.
Zoom is not bad. But at that price level, that unit just doesn't seem good enough. If you don't need signal chain flexibility the Boss ME80 is great and you can usually get it for $150 used. I got a GT1000 and I refuse to get rid of the ME80. Played it recently and that unit still holds up.
Great demo song as usual. Love your creativity. I didn't like the sound of either compared to the real deal. The Boss sounded light on the low mids and a bit thin. The Zoom sounded better on the low mids, but also lacked the high end sparkle of the real amp. I still think I'll hold out for the Neural DSP Quad Cortex. Maybe Boss is about to add some cool new features, this the price increase? God bless and rock on 😎🎸👍

Always enjoy your guitar playing. Like your music room, too. Your music room is better than many guitar stores! Your music room always has a warm feeling to the room. I would go with the GT-1000, but would love a touch screen as I am old and my eyes just don't see as well. The Mooer 300 would greatly interest me, too. The exception being that anyone I purchase equipment from doesn't carry any Mooer products! That being said I do have a Gn5 that I actually like, and was more in my price range at that time. As of now I'm looking at purchasing a new guitar, then a keyboard, and then a new pedal board! The fun thing is a couple years ago at a music store that doesn't carry much of anything I'm interested in I told the young fellow I was interested in getting a particular thing down the line, but then at 67, down the line has an entirely different meaning than it did when I was 20.
the g11 would be a great deal if it had XLR outs, and if they'd get rid of those dumb bright red switches. With that said, the user interface on the g11 is superior for live work.
The G11 sounded quite Lo Fi grainy lacking high end in my opnion, its pedalboard interface isnt for me at all and the carbon fiber looking plastic case is off putting, at this level i would expect/want at metal casing. Great video and playing as always !
You did not put " on " the mic of the cabinet of Zoom g11, Sir. This is sounding drastically different but Zoom G series has been developed perfectly.... I love the Boss but Zoom is now very strong in the point of sounds & user friendly unit..... only thing I feel is lack is non metallic cabinet of Zoom G series..... obviously Boss gt1000 is superior but in a half of the price of gt 1000 Zoom is available & it sounds perfectly fine but to edit in needs.... In sounds & operating, Zoom is now in the mark....
Boss GT1000 es muy chillona, carece de frecuencias baja, en cambio Zoom G11 suena más apagado, falta brillo, pero ese se puede regular perillando, tiene solución, pero supera en frecuencias bajas y medias.
Great review. The amp sounds great. GT-1000 some weird stuff start to happen in the mid range, mids are dry and some are non existant. ZOOM G11 the sound is muddy and useless.. So the video shows clearly that the pedal boards are just not worth the trouble. They both sound bad compared to the real amp. Thank you for this video.
So I Wonder you don’t hear that you have massive Eq different between the Devices …. The 44,1Khz and 16Bit on the G11 make not really a differentes ….I can’t hear that!
Hi, the approach in this video is to use the exact same settings of the modelers and the real amp, with basically everything to noon but the volume / gain that is at 8. I'm not tweaking in order not to hear biasing derived from the tweaking process. That's how the modelers sound with the same settings of the real amp.
