Love how Michael’s playing always serves the song. He’s capable of soaring chopfest playing, but rarely indulges it. He’s always within himself and the song, and always tasteful... Role model...

      Dude's got a perfect pocket.

    • @nickdrey1200

Hell yeah, dude. That's how I play bass. My first instrument was bass, at 11. 29 now. Been playing religiously the whole time. About 8 years ago I picked up guitar and have put in a lot of time on 6 strings, as well. So, my playing on both is super bass informed, meaning that when I play guitar I do not aim to play fast or shred or anything, I just super enjoy playing funky, syncopated lines and shit. I fucking love playing in the pocket
The feeling of playing bass, with a dank drummer, just sitting back in the pocket and just holding down that fuckin stank funk...nothing like it. Every now and then, I'll get a little fresh and play around w some diddles and doo-dads, but always...ALWAYS come back and spank the fuck outta the 1.
