Love how Michael’s playing always serves the song. He’s capable of soaring chopfest playing, but rarely indulges it. He’s always within himself and the song, and always tasteful... Role model...
Hell yeah, dude. That's how I play bass. My first instrument was bass, at 11. 29 now. Been playing religiously the whole time. About 8 years ago I picked up guitar and have put in a lot of time on 6 strings, as well. So, my playing on both is super bass informed, meaning that when I play guitar I do not aim to play fast or shred or anything, I just super enjoy playing funky, syncopated lines and shit. I fucking love playing in the pocket The feeling of playing bass, with a dank drummer, just sitting back in the pocket and just holding down that fuckin stank funk...nothing like it. Every now and then, I'll get a little fresh and play around w some diddles and doo-dads, but always...ALWAYS come back and spank the fuck outta the 1.
Took me a few minutes to realize they're playing "Living for the City" lol That was awesome! Mark is such a tasteful player. And Michael is a rhythm genius.
You know when you hear something you didn't expect and then you have to pause the video to process what you heard....and then you replay it....and now you're stuck in a loop hole you never want to end....that was me watching this.
When I saw snarky live I wasn’t prepared for Mark. I saw the vids I heard him play before but when it’s live and right in front of you at that moment at that time at that place. I wasn’t ready for the sauce this dude has.
i dont know how many of ya'll are drummers but i have a feeling that if Michael League and Benny Greb got together the result would be pure musical magic
I know this is super late in reply, (cant believe i've only just discovered this video - shame on me) but there is already League and Larnell Lewis and also Rob Searight. what more magic than that do we need?
I was there and the sound was god-awful. Not anyone's fault, it's just so loud in the convention center. The playing is obviously super dope. Just rest assured: it's better to watch like this than see in person at the convention.
Fabulous - such an ultra-rhythmical 'musical conversation!' (*Imagine this as fingerstyle guitar solo..!) Aarrgghh! Sunbeams from Spain for posting this GEM, Clive
Please a Dunlop Session with Snarky Puppy and Jacob Collier... PLEASE, PLEASE. I need that for continue living!! If it isn't much to ask, playing "Don't you know".
Talk about getting drawn in! My left foot was tapping out what would've been the hi-hat and my right was filling in for the kick. That was all well and good until it finished and I tried to get up and walk to the kitchen... when I found I could only walk in tight right-hand circles!
Love how Michael’s playing always serves the song. He’s capable of soaring chopfest playing, but rarely indulges it. He’s always within himself and the song, and always tasteful... Role model...
Dude's got a perfect pocket.

0:00 Stevie Wonder - Living for the City
3:20 Prince - Controversy
7:00 SnarkyPuppy - Quartermaster
Thank you cause I was going to hate myself for not being able to name the first tune!
I knew it was Stevie, but forgot the name of the song.

I was not prepared for how awesome this would be.
It's Snarky Puppy, awesomeness is a given
Kley De Jong I felt the same!
kk :D
Poor bait Roberto, 0/10
i am afraid your a loser ... big time ! :-)
Super impressed with their left leg synchronicity!
Very astute!
I bet they're both lefties when playing football 😂
I come back to this every few months. I love how Michael, ever the band director, is calling out the sections for Mark
Mark is setting the bar really high... this isn't just groovy, this is insane.
Michael is the absolute king of the 'bass face'! What a jam!!
Callum Tyrrell no not only king of the bass face but bass in general
He has some serious chops!
4:07 Might be my favorite face of all time.
tryhard faces
Michael always looks like he’s the funkiest. Because he is..
Took me a few minutes to realize they're playing "Living for the City" lol
That was awesome! Mark is such a tasteful player. And Michael is a rhythm genius.
Shout out to my guy filming horizontally
Mark is such a great player
Nice to see you here sean! :D
So are you. :)
What I love most about Mr League is his ability to make four strings, one volume and one tone knob, sound like... delicious.
You know when you hear something you didn't expect and then you have to pause the video to process what you heard....and then you replay it....and now you're stuck in a loop hole you never want to end....that was me watching this.
As a drummer, I want nothing more than to plop a set down and jam with them
Holy Cow. A P-Bass and a Strat goes together so friggin well.
I'm so glad League uses on old bass with old flatwound strings. Very classic sound. He's great with a pick.
When I saw snarky live I wasn’t prepared for Mark. I saw the vids I heard him play before but when it’s live and right in front of you at that moment at that time at that place. I wasn’t ready for the sauce this dude has.
Just recently had the opportunity to jam with Mark, and I was wholly unprepared and insanely impressed. He’s truly a master of his craft
The force is strong between these two.......Tight groove going on.
you got it right, my friend!
Time for League Lettieri Lewis Trio.
im feeling some lewis cato instead of larnell
carsondrum Cato is a beast
L3
Adam Deitch if they're playing the funky stuff!
And call em Triple X L.. 3XL
i dont know how many of ya'll are drummers but i have a feeling that if Michael League and Benny Greb got together the result would be pure musical magic

I can only get so turned on
Digging the Stevie Wonder. Two thumbs up.
Which Stevie Wonder song were they playing? I've heard it before but can't remb the name.
Living for the City
along with Prince- Controversy
Last was "Quarter Master" by Snarky Puppy from the GroundUP record.
That was the first song I heard by them and the Halthaway vid next

I loved the transition into quartermaster. Fantastic stuff.
The "controversy" Prince section is just pure awesomeness.

WoW!!!! An absolute GEM!!!!!!!
My jaw just dropped to the ground.....
Keep those vibes and sounds acomin'.....
I was there and the sound was god-awful. Not anyone's fault, it's just so loud in the convention center. The playing is obviously super dope. Just rest assured: it's better to watch like this than see in person at the convention.
Gln Mcm I think I would have dealt with the sound just to watch these masters work in person!
Gln Mcm it sounds good hear. But yea in person everyone plays too loud. Deafness will come.
Everytime I watch Mike play, I learn something.
I still come back and watch this video 3 years later...so good
Keep coming back to this for another watch! Great to hear Michael playing with a pick too!
Michael League might be the most tasteful bass player I've ever heard
If only he could be heard
I know Mark is a monster, but how could you not sound good with that sort of bass playing behind you
Men dream of jam sessions like this.
One of the best strat tones I've ever heard
It’s a Grosh made strat copy. They are awesome.
Payton Wallace Mark has a signature pedal now by J Rockett.
sensing some love for Jeff Beck here
About 3:40?
If only Mike woulda run into Mononeon at Namm, I don't know if the world would be ready for that jam.
Lol enjoy "th-cam.com/video/vOyDFgc6eOc/w-d-xo.html"
how about a mike league and joe dart collab? would be some insane bass
Mitchell Barnett YES
This needs to happen
Amen to that
F E A R L E S S F L Y E R S
The world would implode
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy from Austria for this wonderful impro beginning with Joe Zawinul!
Man, these guys really can carry the beat. Monsters...
Fabulous - such an ultra-rhythmical 'musical conversation!'
(*Imagine this as fingerstyle guitar solo..!) Aarrgghh!
Sunbeams from Spain for posting this GEM,
Clive
snarky puppy is becoming legend due to their crazy-face-thumbnails on youtube
They are amazing and they always have fun!!!
Your 🎸's interpretation is EXCELLENT!👍🏻
Michael gets so excited when he does the sting I love it
Love it! And good job to the guy holding is phone in the correct landscape position!
only.....and mean only one thing is more classic then seeing Michael League vibe on that bass......HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS!!!
This is bad ass! deep pocket groove...
Now a new fan Lettieri. Love his style.
Please a Dunlop Session with Snarky Puppy and Jacob Collier... PLEASE, PLEASE. I need that for continue living!!
If it isn't much to ask, playing "Don't you know".

Both are ABSOLUTE G.O.A.T.S. 🐐
holding out for the new 10 band eq for bass. when I heard it has less noise it was sold
this dude is sick. seriously sick.
You know its funky when the left foot stomp is goin'
Holy moly. Michael -Fcking- League ladies and gentlemen. dat bass. #MuchWow
The TONES.... masters at work
My lord that was phenomenal
Are you kidding me right now??? As Kley De Jong rightly said, I was not prepared for how incredibly awesome this would be. WOW.
Name a more iconic duo. I'll wait. :P
I mean...they just make it look SOOOOO easy. After i watched this, took my guitar and 5 seconds later i was like "Yeah, nvm..."
I can't believe how tight the timing on the Snarky Puppy tune is.
even after 6 years, I still come back to that stankin pocket starting @ 4:35
probably one of the best video on youtube o.O
Wow, what a great show !!
Man!!! That was dope! I don't know if this will inspire me or end my guitar playing haha
mike is the only dude I'm ok with picking a bass
he’s doing it cause there’s a lot of muted parts in the groove he’s playing and the muting sounds better with a pick
Anybody know what Mark is using to get that scrumptious fuzz tone
Golf hat is diggin' it back there
love it, the second I noticed him. I let myself go and I did the same shit
you can tell hes the only other bass player in the crowd
Crazy good... Amazing
Killed “Controversy”!! Minneapolis Purple Yoda would of been proud !
That's how a strat should sound. Tone for days 🤘🏼🎸
How can someone dislike this!
goddamn - can't wait to see them here in San Francisco in a couple months (hoping Mark is with them)
Amazing Groovy, Dude! 👌🎸
2:23 Lettieri with the downstrokes!
Superb time feel by both these guys
Where have I heard all this before? Where are you Lee and Jacko?
BEAUTIFUL
3:06 Can someone one please tell me what divine combination of notes he is playing for the next like 7 seconds.
Nailed it!How can you not "feel music"when League plays that bass?
Talk about getting drawn in! My left foot was tapping out what would've been the hi-hat and my right was filling in for the kick. That was all well and good until it finished and I tried to get up and walk to the kitchen... when I found I could only walk in tight right-hand circles!
Somebody give me a pill to stop my hips going, Im hurtin' !!!! funkmasters .. I like little Zawinul accents ..
Blend both together and you'll get Charlie Hunter
Aint that the truth...
Wow you’re right, never thought of that
When is right to say "feel" between melody, harmony and heart.. as sing
Dope !! This is so groovy !!
Nick Frost in the background at 2:34 ?!?! OH MY DOG ! :D
Beyond awesome!
well... that was great! props to Ben Stiller for making an appearance in the background as well XD
Jeez, anything Lettieri is in is insane.
5:48 when you thought you were a good guitar player...and then your realize how much more work you have to do
brilliant fellas!
Me at precisely 7:18:
Oh they bouta do it
2:05 Young Lemmy watches the Dunlop Booth for his bass’ sound
What kind of strap locks are they using? Are they Grolsch beer gaskets or some other branded washer?
that was mindBLASTING.
the GROOVE
LFTC & Controversy riff ...madnesss
5:39 Thoo🔥🔥🔥🔥
Incredible!
One of the the dislike comes from Cory Henry.
He is still in the band is he not?
suheru, what? i don't get it
JayoJay Yusss!
