James Young, who is interviewed here wrote a brilliant book on Nico and her life in the 80's 'Songs they never play on the radio'. I highly recommend it.
A fascinating programme - thank you for uploading! I've grown to love Nico's music, it is utterly haunting and beautiful, but you have to give it your undivided attention. I really miss Nico - she was unique.
Great broadcast. Nico 's Manchester sojour has been much mythologised, so it was good to hear some of the participants. Nico's solo records are utterly compelling: those dark mantras wrapped in a percolating harmonium are journeys that require attentive listening. That kind of artistry is long gone, more's the piry....
Born in MANCHESTER 1971 and always thought this is the centre off the Universe..... TILL i was stationed in BERLIN with the kings regiment 1989 90 yes i was lucky to be there when the wall came down.... It was that point THAT BERLIN IS the centre of the Universe
The Velvets. The original indie band. I first heard them around 12/13 years old and are one of the few bands I still listen to some 30 odd years later.
Wonder why the nazi link to Leanader- Dietrich -Nico is mentioned here....almost SUN journalism-disrespectful.. presented in an abbreviated form which des not do justice to any of them. All greats in their time. I saw NICO at one of her last concerts in her home town cologne ,when it was her birthday as well and someone gave her the biggest bouquet of roses i have ever seen in my life. Nico was so hynotic and melancholic that we all sat downon the dirt club floor and i guess many cried..becasue it was a trip deep into her soul and not always a pleasant one. I will not forget i can still see her pumping the organ and singing.
Great to hear. It would’ve been nice to have some women talking about her influence though. Rock is still so Male-dominated: Nico really was a pioneer for females in that industry.
Don’t know about that but I know drugs wrecked his looks. From a really handsome young man to a toothless haggard faced 50 yr old. It’s really quite sad his deterioration and also the fact that his father refused to accept him. Although I did find an article on a French chat site where a man who claimed to be the image of Alain Delon actually was his father. It was really bizarre
Nico is brilliant. She's beautiful. In my opinion, she is incredibly sexy and I would love to have been a friend and a lover to Nico had I been the right age in the right time and place.
Good doc but Nico was not born illegitimate. Her father was a soldier in the German army and left home when she was 1 and a half yrs old. She never saw him after that as he was shot dead. Various reports blame a war injury, though Ari, Nico s son claims he was shot dead by the gestapo for aiding Jews escaping Germany. This is disputed by Ari s adoptive mum, Alan Delon s mother; Alan Delon allegedly, and probably being his father
"Probably" s the operative word, as Ari is the spitting image of Alain Delon, especially when he was younger and his own habit hadn't taken its toll on his looks yet....

Thanks so much for uploading this!
this is one of the coolest things ever!
Warhol knew what he was doing when he brought her into the Velvets' debut album. He did all of them a favour.
nope, he did himself a Davor, and pushed them in to shitty end
@@ivanabonacicdoric3448 yeah-that might be more accurate alright
They were much better without Nico.
Very interesting, thanks for uploading.

She was no feminist, she was an alpha-female
What woman? There's no influence
The Velvets The Doors to another world
Great history lesson! Thank you very much.
I loved her music, but I never recommended her to others because I felt they wouldn't like it.
It's an acquired taste.
You should do , spread the beauty and mysterious , Nico Is For Everyone ,X❤
Ari has an unmistakably beautiful voice, wondering if he pursued any musical endeavors?

Doomed Goddess : The Doors to another world
It was Paul Morrissey who pushed Nico into the band

How did Nico get the Factory? Mo Tucker

Elle avait Une voix sublime
Paix a son âme
There is no video.
Never mind the bollocks and lorraine chase.......perfect!
At 15.32 min. That's not the voice of Hildegard Knef ,its a Mens voice Knef is singing together with in one song....
surely the "du bis wunderbar" parts are by Die Knef, no? it's a duet.
No chicks rule ... forget the ban
Love Nico but she was not a good mum. She got his son addicted to drugs.
No. she didn't. He already started using while he was still separated from her at age 17.
@@stevenbaker7696if you listen you can hear her son saying that she give him drugs when he was four.
Drugged....😣😣🙃🙃😖😖Bleah!!!!!!
