I wish she was still alive today. She had so much to express in her art. She's my favourite artist, because I can connect to her work in a way that I can't with anyone else's. Her secret: earnestness. Her work is always honest. Her voice is always honest. There are no false tones. It's unadulterated expression. It is rare.

I wish I knew you, sadly, my small circle of friends (miss Phil Ochs too), loathes Nico. Commercial, she xan barely spit the word out. You put it perfectly. Perhaps I am weird also, no, I dislike having Nico or myself described, written off, with a brainless flick of the wrist, WEIRD, maybe they don't get it. I don't dig labels either. Hello from Canada, namaste, Z

A truly unique performer, she didn't copy and nobody can copy her. I miss her. The first time I heard her I was mesmerized for I covet the rare, the strange. To come upon such a performer back in "pop" radio days was beyond fortunate. Unless you were into jazz a genre I dig but don't feel safe talking about because I am not up on it, in my mind you wouldn't find any new truly unique sounds. There were performers like The Last Poets, Captain Beefheart but the women were promoted for their looks and the usual song was short with a bridge and aimed at The Top Ten. Not Nico, disdainful of fame and its bull...Just so sad, yes she chose heroin and I think with her intellect knew the implications, but who knows what her demons were, if demons she had. I love opiates too so I cant (wouldn't judge regardless) and I never thought her lyrics were drug induced- maybe I'm wrong. If you listen many times they're not nonsensical ? Some songs still elude me but that appeals to me, the mystery. Several years ago a feminist manifesto type book was released, Women Who Run With the Wolves, at the suggestion of an acquaintance I bought it, having low self esteem and a traumatic, highly abusive background, and I see Nico as a triumphant cover girl for it, not Vogue...Namaste Z.

People commenting on her looks seem to forget that this is after 20 years of a heroin addiction and the rock and roll lifestyle. Beforehand, she was a model for over a decade and was sought after by many men. She was specifically known for her otherworldly beauty, so much so that Andy Warhol and his friend called her the most beautiful creature to ever exist. Her story is tragic, and she was a queen through it all. And anyway, who cares about her looks? Her mind was incredible

It is so sad to see her physical decimation from heroin addiction. The yellow teeth from smoking and neglect, even a missing tooth. She looks bad from the heroin, the puffiness in the face is so tell all. The distant, aged eyes. She absolutely ruined her looks on heroin/alcohol and cigarettes. Train wreck. She was def. an ancient soul who hated being on earth plane. Too bad she couldn't have survived and maybe conquered some of her demons and learned to genuinely love herself. She did know true love at least with her Son Julian.

The label "ice queen" is sadly ironic because her childlike charm and evident vulnerability are ice-melting. That vulnerability is part of what made her vocal artistry so effective. If it were mere iciness it wouldn't speak to so many of us, but the hurt child's voice is universal. Her childhood was emblematic of the tragedy of post-war Germany, her haunting voice the war orphan's. Yet, having met her, what struck me most was her propensity for laughter - that wonderfully deep "ho-ho-ho". She breaks my heart and makes me smile. Never another.

From time to time i get obsessed by her. Looking after vids and reads articles and all I can come over. Its something almost alien alike with her. I found this time a radio article about her, (Sweden) when they talked about a swedish photographer Eva Rydling, they lived togheter at some point in France, Nico was togheter with a france director and Eva too. This directors was friends. Eva Rydling became a famous photographer too. She took a photo of Nico where she wanted her to wearing red lipstick 💄. She first refused, but she did took it because Eva said if she didn't she wouldn't take that photo. So nico did, and after she really liked the photo. She have long red hair in the photo. they was interviewed Eva at the radio and she told them that Nico could go out a getting food that last for many days, and she cooked so good food to them all. But she also said things the photographer didn't like. Like when Evas son was crying etc she said "give him some heroin so he calms down" . Eva said she couldn't stand her when she used Heroin. But she loved her music.

She was beautiful when she was young. I admired her rebellious ways as a woman and a musician. I think she believed that being a junkie was so rock n roll. Which is a shame, especially for her son, as he got dragged into that lifestyle from the beginning. She did try and sort her health out before she died. Did she take heroin to look chic? She obviously got into the dark side of life. Her songs are honest and interesting, but her honesty didn't need heroin.

This feed is full of idiots. She has the rank of #13 best albums by rolling stone. She is #1 female rock artist. She is the 5th ranked rock musician. She is la dolce vita. The USA knew her from LA DOLCE VITA by Fellini. Jim Morrison fell in love with her. He told her to write her own music. She was in the thick of everything. She opened for Pink Floyd. She introduced Iggy Pop to David Bowie. Andy Warhol sought her out to sign with Lou Reed. She modeled for Vogue and Channel before age 16. She knew fashion icons, movie icons, and music icons. She wasn't seeking fame or fortune. She was accomplished. She didn't need interests, she was interesting. She had pure self acceptance always playing full out. Doing what SHE WANTED. She wasn't seeking commercial success. Ridiculous males couldn't comprehend what her gifts were and what she brought to the party. She was supportive of the artist. If you don't get HER, that's on you, not her. She lives on in the music. People are too dumb to understand what weaves her artistic soul. She was the only female strong enough to play at the top level in the male game of rock n roll in the 60s and 70s. Some idiot thinks she hated her beauty. Which is stupid. She loved herself and did not require male validation. She was at one with Jim Morrison. She never lost the love.

She opened for the first gigs of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Had a very successful period of residency on the CBGBs (with Blondie, Talking Heads and all) in a period which is curiously called of "non-sucess" by mainstream media. I think the saddest thing is her death just when she was really getting out of the smack thing and turning the status of real icon (that she has today), playing with Marc Almond and people from electronic scene. This story about her "hate of beauty" was something which was popularized by that interview of Paul Morrissey on "Nico Icon" (I think that guy is the epitome of the "bad venous queen"). If he cut his tongue, he would die immediately by poisoning, my God. Even Warhol never talked that way about her after the Chelsea Girl era (I'm reading the second half of his diaries, interesting, but quite boring). I'm not sure, but, at the same time Nico Icon brought some light to several aspects of her life and career, has created more myths. One of the persons that really knew her deeply, Phillippe Garrel, refuses to talk about that time. So, there's still a lot of false stories that are propagated, again and again.

Even at 47, the age she was when this interview took place, she had a lovely vulnerability about her and a charming shyness. I interpreted her comment about not wanting fans like the kind Neil Diamond had as her way of saying that she could never be an arena performer, like he was at the time, or play Vegas. I think she was stating that she wasn't an "entertainer" but a poetress who's aim it was to connect with her audience intimately and as individuals. Such a shame she died so young (I'm 47 also).

The lyrics of her songs, true poetry. Without fear of being wrong, the greatest lyricist of all time. Its beauty and its ability to make great and distinctive music with minimal elements, without ostentation or false virtuosity, are part of its validity, foolproof with the passing of time. Each album is a gem. Unfortunately, it seems that the industry has little interest in a careful reissue of all her albums and the oddities that are not yet known. The same Marianne Faithfull, another of the greats, admits that no one like Nico to compose the lyrics she made. Together with Marianne Faithfull, Diamanda Galás, PJ Harvey, Lydia Lunch and Siouxsie, one of Rock's greatest artists. Her music has made my days on this earth more bearable.

it's the mystery of life, writers have been writing about it for 2000+ years now and we haven't been able to ever figure out (or get close to it) But it usually follows this pattern: once men "settle" looking for "peace and comfort" it's the moment when Depression and other signs of unhappiness manifest... Unfortunately, it seems like we men need some kind of neverending battlegrounds in order to still feel alive (and thus be able to be better husbands for our wives, even if sometimes they feel more like lovers than wives, but that's PRECISELY THE FUCKING POINT YOU MORON) 🤣🤣🤣

and the other side of the coin on this dynamic is that when Women can finally "tame" the men they seek, they lose what kept them driven and they usually leave them... so it's usually like this, it's a tricky power balance and more often than not there's one that holds more power than the other

It's the first time I've ever seen her smile. It's nice to see. She was an odd person, she never seemed happy; ever.
She last lived in Manchester where I grew up and when a mutual friend took me around to her flat I was honestly frightened. Luckily a poet called John Cooper Clarke was there, saw my shock and kind of kept me safe. John is a true gentleman. He could see a scared kid and his reaction was to sort it out. I cannot say enough good things about John who has now beaten his own H addiction and is back performing. He deserves it all. I owe him a lot.

She said that was her biggest flaw, being born a woman. She purposefully damaged herself and made herself look a lot uglier than she actually was. But by this time she didn't have to try. Even through her ugliness here, she is still in my eyes one of the most peculiarly stunning woman of all time...

I knew her very well at the time. I had been obsessed with her music for years and then got to know her, as much as anyone could know her.
She was strange, certainly, and otherworldly, but very funny, too, which rarely comes over in interviews, as she hated them, and was never comfortable making small talk.
People tend to dismiss her, even now, as a person and as an artist, largely because they know little about her except for salacious rumours, apocryphal stories and myths. It is a shame, but then she never really cared what other people thought of her. You either got her or you didn't; either way it was your problem. I liked that a lot.
She was like someone one met in a dream. I've never met anyone else about whom I felt that way. After talking to her for any length of time or watching a performance, one had to readjust to the rest of the world, as if coming out of a trance.
I miss Nico very much even now. I certainly became a different person through knowing her. Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing, I've never been at all sure, but it was an amazing experience.
