This is why we/you should never hold anyone as an absolute perfect idol.. These ‘idols’ are just human, like us.. they smell, they crap, they make mistakes.. all very human.
Whatever Arnold’s private views are, they are his and he (generally) keeps them private. He’s done a lot of positive stuff in his lifetime. His influence on BB has certainly made it the popular pastime & sport it is today.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is and has always been Machiavellian... that is what it takes to win...he was charming.. audiences liked him and was seen as the " scoundrel on our side ". He was seen as a competitive role model ; I saw Mike Katz as a role model overall. He was a devoted husband and father. I rooted for Katz.

I find this series fascinating.
You’ve covered so many facets of his life.
Part of me wishes I didn’t find this series, as I was happy knowing very little about my childhood hero, being oblivious to the little known negative sides.
People are flawed. I’m glad that the words and thoughts of my youth weren’t recorded. Peoples beliefs change with wisdom and age.
One big takeaway for me is that he could get away with so much by being so charismatic and confident.
Makes me want to know his secret to creating the charisma, so I could duplicate parts of it for myself.
I bet Arnold told Mike Katz: "Hey four eyes, hey cross eyes, you've got rusty fenders on your bicycle and it's not as good as my bike."

I'll chalk it up to a German sense of humor. I had a prof in college who was from Germany. Like Arnold, he was born right after the war. He spoke of despair and hardship all the time. There were moments though when he would pretend to be a German soldier and threaten us with inhalation if we performed bad on an upcoming exam. He thought it was hilarious, but we just rolled our eyes. "I will throw you into darkness. You will be a slave to my every word unless you perform exceptionally." No one understood the guy, but he knew his subject matter.
I am from Poland and Arnold was in the news, as he was visiting Auschwitz and he wrote in the visitors book: "I'll be back". That man sometimes lacks any refinement or culture.

Wow, I didn't know that Arnold used to be so cool. Failed in life for not having a son his father would have been proud of, tho.

Easy Rider did not feature a black built chopper in their magazine for decades til like 2003-Sugar Bear, despite bike's by white builders sporting Sugar Bear's industry best springer front ends. Easy Rider cited that they feared a backlash from their white base as the reason for not featuring choppers built by blacks. Weider is just the messenger of this US preference.

Arnold like to bust balls and I think he probably said a lot of shit just to get a rise from people or psych them out. Even as a child of the 70s everyone used to call each other words we don't use today, but we didn't hate each other. It's just what we said and did.
I think that the younger, 'World's Greatest Bodybuilder' would often be flippant, rude and cruel, for his own amusement and for others.
Arnold thought that he was being 'Cute' and 'Funny' in a juvenile way.
Like many Sports Stars, his EGO was massively inflated - he had succeeded where so many had failed.
BUT, in his later years, this has caught up to him - especially when he became a Politician.
As far as the Anti-Semitism, I think that Arnold has casual Anti-Semitic views, like many Austrians - yet, he doesn't have problems with being friends and business partners with individual Jews or being related to Jews by marriage.
Talk to some Austrians - they're very much like Arnold.
I read a funny quote a while back. It's along the lines of "the Austrians are an amazing people. They've managed to convince the world that Mozart was Austrian and Hitler was a German". Thanks for your comment

Arnold is pretty much finished now. He can only live off of his past. His movie career is over. His political career is over. His marriage is over.
He wasn't a good governor because he really didn't know what he was doing, and that pretty much finished his political career. And then his love child reveal finished it completely. "Screw your freedom" only put another nail in the coffin.
Now he is an old man and looks awful, after years of smoking cigars and drinking alcohol. So much for fitness.
So all of his talk about being a big time leader didn't really amount to much. Trying to go after Trump was just pathetic and didn't help him at all.
Sure, he still has his fanboys. But he is seeing most of his friends pass. His glory days keep diminishing further into the past.
How do you think Stallone fairs in comparison legacy wise? Arnold is now desperately trying to to put all his eggs into the Bodybuilding basket because he knows that all his other niches that he diverged into along the way, no longer acknowledge him.
@@carvedouttastone That's an interesting comparison. I saw a video of Stallone talking to the Actors Studio. He was quite impressive as he talked about the art of filmmaking and writing and acting. He gave a lot of great insights and advice to the students on how to get into the industry and then be successful.
Any time I hear Arnold talk about films, it is almost always on how to promote.
Arnold seemed to be all about how much the film made. Stallone seemed more interested in the overall quality of the movies.

Arnold Schwarzenegger did come from a Germany, neighboring country, though. He probably had to really think about everything while maturing in moral growing in his life. It’s easy to admire somebody where you’re from when you were taught a certain way. I was taught that Hitler was a piece of crap as I feel that way today. However, I like how Arnold stood up for his brothers in the sport to the racist on the bus! Great video, sir.!

Roughly 15 years ago i knew an older American gentleman, about 80. He claimed to have trained with Arnold in Venice in the early 70s. When I asked him what Arnold was like he said Arnold hated Jews. Hated them. And if they were at a cafe with a Jewish waiter he would refuse to give her the order. He claimed how embarrassing it would be to go anywhere with Arnold as this was common. I'd never heard such claims from others until I just watched your video. Fascinating.
Furthermore, I've heard from certain individuals high in IFBB in Australia, Arnold use to run/flip stolen cars and once faced jail, but someone else took the fall. If you have any information on that. I think we would all love to see it.
Yeah, Arnold was inadvertently (I think) caught up in a stolen car flipping ring with Aussie room mate Paul Graham. Long story short, Arnold use to drive the cars to the dock. Can't remember if there was an accident or the feds just got wind of it, but Paul took the fall for Arnold as he would have lost everything and got deported back to Europe where he was also in trouble with the law. Funny fun fact - one of the feds was Mike Mentzer's future girlfriend....you can't make this shit up hahahaha.

I live in the UK and use to go to an old school bodybuilding gym that Arnold had trained at a few times when he was over for some show I believe back in the 60’s before he was famous. No idea what age Arnold would have been but I believe it was when he would compete at the Mr Universe show. I used the same weights that Arnold had lifted as the gym barely changed at all and was owned by the same owner who when telling me the story was in his early 70’s and about to retire. He showed me photos of him with Arnold in the gym and none of them had a nice word to say about him. This was good bit before Arnold got famous.

Much over the decades that i have learn't about arnold, as years ago i was once a fan, he certainly was a dickhead, and not just your normal run of the mill dickhead but a massive dickhead along with being an enormous egotistical wanker with a big mouth.
Meet a photographer some years ago who photographed some of the competitions back then and he had nothing good to say about his experiences with arnold. In fact the word he used when i mentioned arnold was a "complete dickhead".

(As it's the internet) personally I think he used Hilter as a joke with them both being Austrian and he probably saw himself as formidable, but I honestly think he was joking and trying to be edgy, and probably calling out the elephant in the room when he couldn't speak English well. Most jokes quoted out of context are horrible. Do I think Arnie is a secret Nazi? No.
He was a product of his time. A lot of assumptions on your part without perhaps exploring the evidence put forth by his contemporaries. His self reported quotes are revealing - and although in hindsight you mighy construe them as a joke - there's also the truism "many a truth spoken in jest"
The fact that his recent history has also been and over compensation in the other direction speaks volumes towards these past indiscretions. Not saying he was or wasn't harbouring Nazi sympathies - at the end of the day I don't judge and I don't really care, but the post war Austrians.didnt disavow Hitler in the same way the Germans did. 2) I never heard Arnold reference Hitler in pumping iron - if you have him saying that in your edition, upload it so I can see it.
3) of course the "way I'm presenting" it wasn't stated in the film. It was in the outakes that Butler spoke about in his book. How is that so hard to comprehend exactly or are you just hearing and seeing what you want to hear and see? I'm confused
