@@iprofox3758 It was a concert in New York (Carnegie Hall) put on by John Hammond that featured some of the best African-American jazz, spiritual and blues artists. It was controversial because the audience would be integrated. As mentioned above Robert Johnson was supposed to play it but he "couldn't make it". Off the top of my head I believe he was replaced by Big Bill Broonzy.
Buck Clayton (trp), Lester Young (tsax), Eddie Durham (el gtr), Freddie Green (acc guitar), Walter Page (db), Jo Jones (dr). This is the Kansas City Six, one of the small bands formed by members of Count Basie's orchestra. So sorry, no Charlie Christian here. Eddie Durham is a very good substitute though. He's mainly known as a trombonist and arranger but he was also one of the pioneers of the electric guitar, even credited as the first to ever record with that instrument. He was also Charlie Christian's teacher and idol which explains why their styles were so similar.
It's always nice to meet you where I go dear Istvan ...Check this, no doubt you know that: th-cam.com/video/lGvy4CiPpoY/w-d-xo.html Real pleasure to hear Freddie Green... Have a nice day!
They were very different players difficult to compare them. Some of Django's later work on electric guitar took on some Christian trait's I love them both
How could 4 people not dig this? 😎
Maybe they were expecting a Jimmy Rushing vocal.
All Blessings to Charlie Christian.
Simply Fantastic - Dig Pres Great Christian
So nice.
1:58 Charlie Christian playing the BLUES! but throwing in that bebop!
Gracias a Dios por èsta mùsica y los mùsicos..esta difusiòn cambia el mundo para mejor
Oh Yes
Yooooo peep the subtle backbeat they used in the last chorus or so. That is so hip for '42!

Freddie and Charlie! Not to mention the rest of the band, Jo Jones and Pes are bad asses.
et jo jones alias le Métronome aux drums !
Buen video
Looks like if Charlie's guitar ever got away from him, it would eat all the audience. And Lester lays out the grownwork for immortality.
333!!
and Pres.
Not that it matters really, but I think that the pic at 1:30 is Roy Haynes.
Who wasnt in this session...
So, that was Buck, Prez, Charlie, Jo Jones and who else? And where and when was this cut?
Plus Walter Page b, it's from the concert SPIRITUAL TO SWING at Carnegie Hall 1938/39 (there were two concert but I don't know from which this was).
