    I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and fun Dandelions turned out. It's certainly a game that non-gamers can get into and, with 12 plays under me now, there's never been a time where a game completed and players didn't want to give it another shot.
    I completely disagree with some opinions here on having no direction and/or no control in the game. Utilizing ones and twos, and using them tactically to get as many dice in one area as you can is ultra-good. It's also fantastic to sprinkle in a high die, like a five or a six in a zone where you have a ton of dice, as it drastically increases your end game score.
    The "Gust" mechanic where you have to move ALL dice of the same number to an adjacent zone is super meaty, too. I can't tell you how many times I've had two or three low numbers in a zone, an opponent lands there with the same number, and now has to move them somewhere else which I now have advantage. Also, landing on that reroll space can be make or break, even toward the end!
    Last thing I'll say here is I'm surprised they didn't discuss the end game scoring! I found it to be pretty unique with two different ways to score. If you don't know, you score how many dice you have in each zone. After that, you'll score how many pips you have on the dice in the zone with the caveat that whoever has the most amount of dice in the zone is the only one who scores! Is there a tie? The lowest amount of pips wins.

    I’m loving how the Four Squares format is becoming the normal for reviews at The Dice Tower. Getting multiple perspectives is always better than a single voice

    When I backed this and psychic pizza delivers I wasn't expecting much of dandelions. I was pleasantly surprised though due to the short playtime and how easy it is to set up and play with people who've never played it. I actually play it with my young daughter under 5 years old. She might not get the strategy but she certainly can make choices after her dad provides her some good options 😁. Overall I would give it a 7 but if I keep playing as much as I have been I think it's score would go up. Thanks for your review.

    I've found that the Gust mechanic, where you push other players' dice of the same value, actually makes it more random. You can't really plan that far ahead because it's really hard to work out where anything would get pushed, so I play without it and feel its much improved.

      I've actually been playing without the Gust mechanic as well just because I forgot lol! Still enjoyed the game, we'll see if I like it any less with the Gust mechanic back in.

      @@joshuataggart yeah, it's really easy to forget which we did for our first few plays. Then when we added it in, we didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much

    I dont know what Camillia and Roy expected but I feel like the game look pretty good if you put it in the camping with grand-ma categeory of game,.

      Sort of wondered the same. Given this is not their “style of game”…why are they the ones reviewing it then?

    • @nurseruben5431
      @nurseruben5431 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They didn't even try playing the game at a two player count..

      @@mwalls14 I think the idea is if you align more with a certain reviewer in their gaming tastes you get a better idea of you will like the game or not. If they always have the person reviewing a game who likes that style it’ll make for less interesting reviews.

    Good review as usual guys. Seems like a cool little game to play with older kids and family members. Shame they didn’t think to make the tiles different on each side!

    Backed Psychic Pizza Deliverers and this... Dandelions is great and I would give it a higher score. Fits in my backpack and great for kids and non-gamers. Thanks for the review DT crew!

    It's like Jurassic Park...Control is the illusion. That is, uh, the essence of Chaos.

    Zee forgets that in a previous video he was vehemently opposed to variants. He said: "Give me the game not a whole bunch of variants". I'm paraphrasing but I remember being annoyed by this because I like variants. If you don't want to play them, ignore them. Now, he wants variants.

    • @CharlesCom-bd2qb
      @CharlesCom-bd2qb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you misunderstanding things. Usually he dislike when games say you can play competitive/co-op/team/1vsall he prefer when the game designer know what the game is best for. In this particular video he did not talk about wanting variant, jut want different/random set-up option to change up the game feel a little. Pretty sure he would be suss about a co-op variant lol

      Zee dislikes ambiguity, not so much variants, as I understand- when the designer asks the players to finish designing the game.

      In that previous video, Zee was saying “Get your game design solid before you start throwing in 50 different ways to score”. It’s about clarity and focus, and Zee finished that rant by saying “…include a variant or two, FOR A REASON.”
      I think he’s being consistent. Dandelions could have had a modular setup spelled out in the rules

    Kind of a weird review. A lot of time spent talking about how they wanted 3 lines in the rulebook saying you can lay tiles randomly.
    Also an odd choice of reviewers. Seems like Camilla and Roy would be the least likely on the team to like this game.

    • @andrewp3043
      @andrewp3043 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they tend to be big on theme, so this is pretty likely to disappoint them while it’s in Zee’s wheelhouse (especially since he already reviewed the game it’s based on positively). I guess it’s good to have a wide variety of reviewers though especially given how Dice Tower reviews games (games get the highest score among reviewers instead of the average)
      That said, I think it was a fair review and Camilla even gave it the same score as Zee.

      I think this is a good little game, but I tend to like roll-and-move abstract games like Backgammon. I’d liken the amount of control you have to playing out a hand of cards in a trick-taking game. You can roll dice that are hard to work with, but a skilled player will win more often in the long run.

      I thought it was a little bit of a strange review as well. The way everyone was talking made it sound like nobody had actually really played it more than a couple times at all, just conjectured about it.
