    Hi, thanks for the video. I ve been using the 2i4 2nd gen for a few years and thinking of upgrading. I need a better audio interface with 4 line input at least. Got a few questions :
    - Is there a major difference in built in sound quality from the 2i4?
    - Do you think this can beat the audient id44?
    Thanks

      The Audient Evo 8 I just got is just $200, has 4 Audient preamp inputs and 4 outputs, and sounds way better than my Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 3rd gen. It really is a great but inexpensive audio interface and the auto leveling feature works extremely well. I cannot recommend it enough.

    I'm totally new to recording. i sing and play acoustic guitar and I would like to record myself singing and playing at the same time. I would like the option to have a separate mic for the guitar and also to record at the same time from the guitar's pickup via a lead, so that I can mix the mic'd and direct input sound. I have an iPad Pro and also a late model hi spec pc laptop. Can you advise on the minimum input requirements I would look for in a device. Would the 2i2 be sufficient or does the 4i4 give me the required inputs (2 for guitar -mic +line in; 1 for voice)? The cost is not a particular concern. Maybe the Claret better offers what I need. I'd appreciate your thoughts!

    • @StudiosparesTV
      @StudiosparesTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Iain, thank you for your message. It sounds like you will require a minimum of 4 inputs, so the 2i2 would not be suitable, and the 4i4 may be a better option. So that we can really understand your requirements, you're welcome to email us at sales@studiospares.com and one of the team can get back to with a few various options and help you make a decision. - Enjoy your new recording journey!

    The clarett usb version doesn't have a loopback feature (thunderbolt version does however) in focusrite control which was a deal breaker for me. I don't need super high quality preamps so I went with the scarlett mainly for that reason.

    • @marcusstrymon693
      @marcusstrymon693 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What exacly do you mean? Can you still do an FX loop with the clarett? (I like to play my midi organs - I send it stereo out on outputs 3 and 4 to my 3 strymons [mobius, bigsky and timeline], then send it back stereo to the front inputs and then with output 1 and 2 to my adam monitors.) With the scarlett and cubase you can do it and hear the result live while playing (cubase dircet monitor) and also after recording the midi you can loop it, sit down at the FX chain and change the sounds while you hear it.
      I thought about switching to the clarett, just cause they said the preamp might sound so much better. But if I cant have an FX loop, i might as well stick with my 4i4....

    • @MarcusSt0ne
      @MarcusSt0ne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@marcusstrymon693 Yeah you should be able to do that. I was referring to the loopback feature. It's a feature that lets you basically record audio being played from your computer (like from an internet browser, skype, or some other program that you want the audio from).

    Hi and thanks. Simplistic question I realise, but would you say the Clarett is good enough to make a professionally recorded song / album. Or would a UAD Twin or an RME Babyface Pro be better suited to the job.

    • @StudiosparesTV
      @StudiosparesTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ultimately, the decision is down to you on personal preference, and what you require in terms of inputs and functionality... but there is absolutely no reason you cannot create a professional-quality recording with a Clarett or a Scarlett. They're fantastic interfaces and more than up to the task.

    The Clarett comes with an ADAT - Input, so 8 additional inputs are given. It was the main reason for me to search for a new interface the last weeks. It was a head to head race between the Clarett and the Apollo Twin... In a direct vs. test the difference was extreme hard to hear, so the simplified background was the winning point for the Clarett. No DSP on board, nothing that could have negative influence in the signal path, just pure clarity...so the name is defined with Clarett? And the "Air" function is just an EQ - thing in the software, no extra chip.

    • @StudiosparesTV
      @StudiosparesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi there, thanks for the comment. The Clarett series are fantastic! The ADAT in and transparent nature of the preamps make it the perfect choice for hooking up your favourite mic pre's/outboard equipment. The air function can also add a nice lift to brighten up certain 'colour' microphones which is a handy option to have and always worth a press to see if it adds anything.

    • @marcusstrymon693
      @marcusstrymon693 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How can it have 8 inputs? I would love to have 8 Inputs for occasional drum recording. However as i normally only need 2 inputs and 4 outputs I also would love my IF to be small and not need too much space on my desk.

    • @StudioBonn
      @StudioBonn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marcusstrymon693 Ohh....good question. The additional inputs will displayed in the software-mixer.
      So it should be routed in your DAW to get individual software outputs... I haven't try that, but I can test it next weekend...(this week I have night shift...)

    It's always nice when the video mentions that the audio in the video is from the device being talked about. However, why was it recorded with only 1 of the 2 being talked about? Surely, it would've been better to have something like the first half recorded with interface 1 while the 2nd half was recorded with interface 2. That would've given people a sample of how both sound.

    • @MrFlint51
      @MrFlint51 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At the end of the video he says that the audio was recorded with a 2i2 interface, so we are not hearing the sound of EITHER of the review items. Looking at the spec sheets for both, I don't think that the higher frequency response and max input levels will make any practical difference; human hearing only goes up to about 16kHz, even before you spend years listening to music at too high a level

    • @imdurc
      @imdurc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrFlint51 They were using a Scarlett (2i2, as stated) interface, so, it will have the same preamps/converters as the pictured 4i4. The point I was making was, it would have been nice to have both scarlett AND clarett used for the voiceover recordings. People watching the video could have then gone back to compare the two recordings for differences. Using just one was a missed opportunity.
      Also, regarding the sound, specs don't tell the story. The two interfaces are quite different sounding - I owned a Scarlett and upgraded to a Clarett, so, I know how different the sound of the preamps as well as the converters are.

    • @StudiosparesTV
      @StudiosparesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3
