  • We visited Mercado de Surquillo, a local market in Lima, Peru where we discovered the greatest fruit in the world, and tried ceviche for the first time.
Check out our vlog trying Peruvian food, and meeting friendly local people.
    TIMESTAMPS:
    00:00 - $1.60 snack packs (dehydrated orange?)
    7:10 - 2x mystery fruit
12:05 - We have officially discovered the greatest fruit in the world
20:17 - Gameshow: Name That Organ
27:03 - First time trying Ceviche (from 0 to 5 stars very quick)
39:22 - Had to go back to buy more lucuma
43:06 - Don't watch this if your Malaysian
We didn't really know what to expect from Lima - when we think of Peru we only knew Machu Picchu. But, in the end, Peru is more than just Machu Picchu! Lima is a very livable city that we are looking forward to spending the next one month (or more?) in! During this time we will be diving into Peruvian food, both Pre-Columbian and the more Spanish dishes, we will try to learn more about Native Culture and Peruvian culture, both by visiting traditional markets and talking to the people we meet. And we will take you along with us, every step of the way with our Peru travel vlogs, Peru travel guides, as well as, of course, food vlogs!

Hi from a Brazilian in Germany. Lúcuma is a very interesting type of fruit. The synonymous for it here in Germany is "Gold der Inkas", which means gold of the Inkas. I think we only have lucuma powder here but I can try at the Viktualienmarkt here in Munich as they also sell the whole jackfruit 😁

Another great video! You guys were spot on! Two of the things that Peruvians overseas do when visiting Peru is to eat cebiche and anything with lucuma (ice cream, desserts, etc.), one of the most delicious fruits worldwide. BTW, the orange vegetable in the cebiche was sweet potato. Glad you guys could enjoy Cerveza Cusqueña. Another drink to accompany cebiche with is Inca Kola (yellow-coloured soda with a lemongrass flavor). The rice with seafood's color was not just because of turmeric, but also yellow chili paste. If you stay in Peru beyond April, do get a cebiche de conchas negras (black scallops cebiche). It is delicious! The black scallops offseason ends in late March, so it is not available right now. Enjoy and have fun!

And you say "muy bueno", not mucho lol. For tourism, search for Huaraz. Its in the North, in the middle of the Andes and Very, Very beautiful and hardly anybody goes there.

Try ceviche in a slightly more formal restaurant. The presentation will be a little more ‘presentable’’. Ceviche is like the national dish in Peru. Also you can add some aji (Chilli pepper) to it. And the orange stuff was sweet potato. Ceviche usually uses white fish, like sole . And it’s not marinated long at all. Usually it’s instantaneous. It’s prepared and served right away, not marinated for hours. On the spot.
You should go to barranco and try some restaurants there. A little more expensive but worth it. Isolina restaurant is worth the price.
Lima is full of great food. Enjoy ! Thanks for being open minded !

The Ceviche you ate was so white because (MAYBE) they used milk to cook it. They cook it with lime, and sometimes milk, depends on the chef. Also it doesn't take a week to cure it like a meat in salt, the white fresh fish cooks in lime only in 10-15 minutes. Also that wasn't pumpkin it was sweet potato.

Peruvian Ceviche is always fresh, from fresh fish caught that morning and cooked in lime juice for only 10-15 minutes, never for days.

Nice video! Peru has a wide variety of food and fruits in each state of the country you find something different. Every time we travel we visit different states and we fall in love with this land of the Incas. Greetings from California and thanks for visiting my beautiful country. I was surprised that a Lucuma is 10 soles 🤣

Your market videos are always great! Best way to try local food. If you go back to Brazil, Belo Horizonte (minas) has a great market (as many people said, minas has great food)

Ciruela is plum. Aceituna is olive. They dried them and marinate them in a salsa criolla: oil, onion and ají.

I miss ceviche and Cusquena so much! Nice watching you two enjoying Peruvian food. You need to try Pisco sour, I got hooked on it while I was travelling in Peru. As for places to visit, do not miss Arequipa and Canyon de Colca, pretty amazing and Arequipa town is also lovely. I guess you are anyway travelling to Cusco and Machu Picchu, so not mentioning those :) Have fun guys!

    • @michelemirco6542
      @michelemirco6542 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Lucuma is great! Try the Lucuma mousse if you have the opportunity. But if you have a taste for sweet fruits you should try chirimoya, in my opinion this is the best Peruvian fruit.
Concerning to salty dishes I suggest trying causa rellena, made with yellow potato, tuna and avocado (but the fillings may vary).
I’m Brazilian but have been a lot of times in Peru (my sister lived there) and I’m passionated about the country and specially its food.

One more recommendation: try chicha morada, a drink made with that black (actually it is purple) corn you’ve seen in the market
