Seriously considering grabbing the S9 for a b-camera since now I use my S5II exclusively for my wildlife photo + video content. This definitely helped sell it to me!
I have an S5IIX at work and was considering getting one but after seeing these updates on the S9 I think I might get it instead. I just want a fun camera that's super capable. I love my GX85 but I'd really love a compact full frame camera. And it seems they're really investing in this being THE breakout camera.
@@walrusgumboot That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm not bringing my big professional cameras out for fun. They seem to have made a fun camera that really punches above its weight class.
I picked this up over the s5II and am glad I did. Yeah, it has flaws, but a lot of the videos and photos I take personally are just on the go wherever I'm traveling. I love the form with the small rig grip, too. I'm content with my purchase. If you're a freelance photographer or videographer, I wouldn't recommend this camera, but I also don't think that's its marketed target.
Thank you for this interesting, informative review. I'm a happy owner of an S5 iix, and am curious as to whether you see any advantage of the S9 to the S5 iix, which is now very close in price. The S5 iix, and its siimilar sibling the S5ii, has an eye level finder of course and a hot shoe, two of the major knocks against the S9, and is only slightly bigger.
Do you think this is a better investment than a ZVE1 considering the lens selection costs that must be factored into the equation? Dont know many people that upload straight to YT from their camera / phone, for vertical content this is likely the best device hands down right now. ZVE1 loses in the app functionality category which seems super fun as well. Lumix seems like a good brand to buy into - this and the s5iix as a progression - although for the casual shooter hard to say if this beats out the ZVE1. That is my ramble, thank you for joining my Ted Talk.

May I ask why this is a great YT camera? Everyone is watching YT only their phones. An iPhone with log or pocket 3 would be perfectly capable. These mirrorless are insane overkill for shooting for YT. Wild anyone would spend on lenses etc for a clunky large system and it’s not being shown at a theater or Netflix.
true af. unless you're fishing for clients, an iPhone 15 Pro + 1TB external SSD + VND filter or a Pocket 3 + those clip-on magnetic filters would be more than sufficient (and cheaper too) for youtubing.
Depends on what you’re doing. For casual vlogs, a phone or an OP3 works. But I think the S9 makes the best intermediate TH-cam camera for taking your quality to the next level. It can be simple, but you can also grow into its better video capabilities. It’s just my opinion. I love my OP3 as well
To add to this, the S9 is also fantastic for thumbnail photography and for IG content. It’s simply a more flexible system if you’re trying to take TH-cam seriously
