I love your video! As a soapmaker, I recommend adding your essential oils to the slightly warm plant oils BEFORE adding the lye so it has time to fully incorporate throughout the entire batch! For regular body soap, I recommend mixing the essential oils with clay (2 TBSP per pound) at least 10 minutes before adding to the oils. This will help anchor and retain the scent! :)
I loved your recipe. Since I was running out of dish soap and didn't feel like ordering via Instacart or heading to the store (and I already make my body soap bars, shampoo bars and facial bars), this seemed like no brainer. However, instead of using CP process I used HP and added an orange essential oil once the soap cooled to perfect temp. Then I stirred it well and poured into my silicone muffin pans (perfect size bar). I let them sit for 12 hrs, unmolded and let them rest for additional week. Well, all but 1 since saponification was done. I am in awe. It washed my non dishwasher and stainless steel pots and pans so good. Never going back to store bought junk. Thank you for an awesome recipe.
I just finished my first ever batch of soap. I followed the steps and added sweet orange essential oil, everything came out just like in your video. Thank you for the recipe!
I use a jar lid ring. It works really well, and even when the bar gets small, you can lean it against the side. There will be a small discolored spot. on the bar, but I have never known it to effect it's cleaning power.
Thank you for sharing your recipe. I poured mine right into these cute little dishes I got at the dollar store. The bars got hard in a few hours and they look so awesome.
Love your channel and I just made these bars last night. They turned out beautifully. I didn’t have the orange oil you used so I used a combination of red Mandarin, sweet orange, and lemon essential oils. The fragrance is quite faint but at least it has some of the cleansing properties citrus offers. Thank you so much!
Thank you! After pricing some natural dish soap bars, it was clear that I needed to learn to make my own. Your recipe is the perfect answer! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I've made a similar dish soap and it's great. I scented it with lemon essential oil and powdered lemon zest, and I added some sodium citrate (to improve the lathering in hard water). I also infused my oils with annatto seeds to make the bars yellow (to match the lemon scent).

I don't have castor oil and every recipe I have come across (20+) ALL have castor oil. I do not want to use castor oil so is there any recipe at all where I can still make solid bar dish soap and avoid castor oil all together or does it HAVE to have castor oil?
Great video! Got so excited about it we tried it ourselves :) it looks like as the loaf is starting to cure in the mould it’s getting a crack along the middle. I know you used individual moulds in yours but is there a way to use this recipe with a loaf mould? Should anything be changed or altered? Thanks so much!
Hi-I’m just starting to experiment with soap making so I’m still on a learning curve. I recently made a batch of dish soap from a recipe very similar to yours. I put it in a loaf mold & when i unmolded it to cut it into bars it crumbled. I’m sure I followed the recipe exactly. My question is…is it always better to use individual molds for solid dish soap? It seems so hard that I can’t imagine being able to slice it. Thank you!
Maybe some turmeric? It gives it a nice yellowish color and it is antibacterial.. Not sure how much effective it is though. You can also sprinkle some between two layers of batter, the bars will have a nice stripe in the middle.
I have been looking for a solid dish soap recipe. Thanks for putting this out there. Can one use a loaf mold for this recipe or would the soap be too hard to cut?
hi gina! I have tried to my existing bars to test and they are difficult to cut, but not impossible. they definitely don't look that great when sliced! but i do think its possible if all you have is a loaf mold, just dont wait too long!
