🌸Citric acid information:
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

Your videos are wonderful. I purchased all your books, such fantastic information
Thank you so so much🤗
@@tellervo. Where do you purchase essential oils?
I get them locally😊
@@tellervo. I only ask because the EO I purchased did not last in my soap. So I was looking for another brand
I don't know how but you bring peace to this crazy world. thanks
Makes me happy to hear🤗
I personally love the color change😊
Thanks😊
Wow I’ve learned something new and important today about the scent retention in soap. Thank you so much for that information ❤
My pleasure💝
I bought your recipe books but i def much prefer watching your videos. Theyre so relaxing and helpful. Never stop! 🫶
You inspire me to make soaps. I love the format of your videos, the delicate and affectionate way you treat each bar. Thank you for being an inspiration!
I'm so glad to hear, thank you so much💝
It's really soothing to watch the soap making process. I would collect soaps, not use them, as to me they are work of art. This particular I would call "a tombstone ".
Glad to hear🤗
Coloring was interesting. Beautiful video!
Thank you😊
Soap stamp is simple and beautiful ❣️ I enjoyed watching the video today too!
Thank you🤗💝
Thank you so much for the video! I will try your recipe next time I make blueberry soap! (My last effort yielded pond-scum green soaps, from both the blueberries and a really ugly indigo + oil infusion.)
And extra thanks for including Molly. She just warms my heart, and makes me so happy! Please give her a big hug and kiss from her American admirer! ❤😊❤😊❤😊❤
Glad to hear! I feel you, I've made my share of pond scum soaps😄 I will🤗❤️
this looks like it smells so good
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you🤗
This was a beautiful soap, Sara, and many thanks for sharing the information on using cornstarch to stretch the scenting, appreciate you ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much, my pleasure💝
Your recipes are my go to and I enjoy making soaps, can I substitute sweet almond oil with another oil and what oil would that be please? Thanks
Thank you🤗 You could use something like avocado oil or apricot kernel oil!
Excellent helpful and soothing video as always Sara. Thank you! Love me some blueberries! 💙
Thank you so much💙💙
So fantastic ❤
Your ebook has been sooo helpful also . Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us
Glad to hear🤗
Such an inspiration ,you gave me some ideas of making soaps, thank you so much and be blessed.
Makes me super happy to hear💝
I'm just meeting with your youtube channel, but I'm in love with your recipes and elegant presentation
Thank you🥰
Thank you, Sara!
What a beatiful hands...yours❤
You're so sweet❤️
Thank you so very much!
Wow this is so amazing! Love the idea of putting fresh blueberries in soap! What benefits does it have in the soap? Do you absolutely have to add citric acid to the fruit? Love it! ❤
Thank you so much❤️ I did it mainly for fun, it's debatable if the properties survive the saponification process😊 If you make this exact recipe without adjusting the lye you need to add the citric acid!
Thank you for your video. I love all your videos so so much ❤ may I ask how much time you kept the indigo on heat?
Thank you so much🤗💝 It took maybe 20 minutes, you'll notice when the mixture starts to thicken it's ready!
@@tellervo.Thank you. And where from do you buy your indigo powder please?
Lovely soap, I wonder what the color would be with just the berries?
Beautiful soap.
Thank you!
Can you make a video to explain how to preserve and store soap after making it?
It would be a pretty short video, basically you just leave the bars out to dry in a cool and dry environment😊 It's best to allow good airflow around each bar!
I still love this color. (bleeding and all, typical of blueberries) It has major color shift from green to blue. Gorgeous.
Thank you🤗 the color change was interesting!
Beautiful work! What is the shelf life of these soaps with fresh ingredients?
Thank you! At least 6 months, but they often last much longer than that😊
😍 Wunderschön!!!!! Meine lieblings Farbe
Thank you🤗🤗
Hai I am from India everyday i am watching ur videos very inspire me to making soap bar....... One kind request pls upload Pearl and Gold soap making
Thank you so much😊
Hello Tellervo and your amazing products 😊 I followed your link to enter the posted competition albeit there was no mention of it…? Perhaps you could explain further 🙏💜. i always love your beautiful presentations. It’s 2.20am on the now 22nd July and here I am after a rather momentous day watching this video before I climb the stairs 😊
Hello, thank you🤗 if you go on our instagram paige 'thesoapstamps' we have a post with giveaway written over it and you can enter there😊
@@tellervo. hmmm 🤔 That I did. Several times
Gave up 😊
I like these kinds of vlogs.....Less talk
Do the acids you use in your recipe have any side effects for the skin?!
No, Blueberries contain many acids, including citric, gluconic, malic, oxalic, and shikimic acids, that can be beneficial in soap, also
Antioxidants, Blueberries have antioxidant properties that can help your skin
Vitamins and minerals too, Blueberries are rich in vitamins and minerals that can help your skin
Amazingly beautiful 💙What size mould are you using?
Thank you so much, the mold fits about 900 grams of soap☺️
@@tellervo. Thank you💙
great tutorials! what is the life of this soap? and how to calculate expiry of soap?
Thank you! Fresh soap lasts at least 6 months, but often much longer. If you make a basic soap you can check when the best by date is for your oils and it will be the same for the soap.
Hi Sara, love the way you make soap, I'm from Bengaluru City in India, want to purchase the ebook s , it didnt convert to our currency.
Would you please explain the lye concentration in the soap preparation?
I go into detail about it in The soap formulator's workbook😊 I like the lye concentration to be around 35% but it depends on the recipe!
I am not a fan of eating blueberries maybe in a smoothie but I just made soap with it! 💙
Awesome💝
Does the color of the soap stay over time or does it quickly fade?
Indigo is a colorant that does not fade☺️
Is there an adjustment you would have made to prevent the bleeding in the end? either way i would still use it haha ;) but still asking...
Just adding less color😊
I am form Pakistan 🇵🇰 i see your video Daily. InshALLAH soon i well make soap 🧼.
Great🤗
Can i ask u something? How percentage if i want to add oat, turmeric powder, spirulina powder, etc ?
I would add them by the teaspoon or tablespoon🙂
انا يعجبني هذا كثيرا واريد ان اتعلم هذا 😉👌
Hola muchísimas gracias por tus vídeos de cuando son tus moldes? ❤
My pleasure💝 there's a link for the mold in the description box!
What color would the soap be if there was no indigo added for color?❤
I think it would be orange or beige😊
Hi, I'm from Malaysia. Can u please make a video of a coffee body soap for men. I would love to watch & if possible hopefully learn as well. Thank you
My spouse made on last year😊: th-cam.com/video/hUlssHTD-es/w-d-xo.html
@@tellervo. thank you so much.
We don't get fresh blueberries where i live. Can i use frozen ones for this soap?
Sure😊
Was it the blueberry or the indigo that made it bleed you think ?
I think it's the indigo☺️
Great ❤
Can i use corn starch in hot process method?
Sure☺️
Hello, I am a beginner in making oil soap. Everything is beautiful when I mix the ingredients. But I have a problem when I add scent to oil soap. When I add scent, the soap becomes inconsistent and flakes 😢
Probably the scent is for accelerated trace?
@@amandasimatupang1217
Thank you for your time. Can you explain to me more 🙏🏻
@@Kab_990 i don't know that much, but when i buy fragrances for soap (on soap making online shop), they explain whether the fragrance is slow trace or accelerated.
@@Kab_990 some fragrances are making the soap trace so fast, some are not, i don't know what makes it, but you can ask the seller about your fragrance?
I agree, it's best to choose fragrance oils that don't accelerate trace😊
Unrelated to this soap, can you do a glycerin soap video?
I have some shorts on melt and pour soap😊
Soap base easy farmula I need please
Hi
I am from Iraq and I have a group on Facebook where I post soap making videos. Can I take some of your videos and post them there?
Thank you ❤️
Sure, maybe you can link back here😊
Y did you add citric acid?
Blueberries make great SOAP they
offer several benefits for the skin due to their rich nutrient profile:
1. **Antioxidant Protection**: Blueberries are high in antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which help protect the skin from free radicals that can cause premature aging and damage.
2. **Anti-inflammatory Properties**: The anti-inflammatory compounds in blueberries can help reduce skin inflammation and redness, making them beneficial for conditions like acne and rosacea.
3. **Hydration and Moisture**: Blueberries contain vitamins A and C, which help in hydrating the skin and maintaining its moisture balance.
4. **Improved Skin Tone and Texture**: The vitamins and minerals in blueberries promote the production of collagen, leading to improved skin elasticity and a smoother texture.
5. **UV Protection**: The antioxidants in blueberries can help protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV radiation, reducing the risk of sun damage and skin cancer.
6. **Healing and Repair**: Blueberries contain vitamin K and other compounds that help in the healing and repair of skin cells, which can be beneficial for wound healing and reducing the appearance of scars.
Incorporating blueberries into skincare routines, either through topical application or diet, can provide these benefits and contribute to overall skin health.
Does corn starch make the essential oil's smell stick to the skin
Im not sure about corn starch but i know for sure kaolin clay does
It's not really a goal of mine so I haven't paid attention☺️
Can i use this formula for business sell
I recommend following the regulations in your country🙂
Great

That's strange, I found a bunch of weird tools in my cupboard the other day
Do sale your soap. I would rather purchase it.

Don’t waste those wild blueberries on soap! Enjoy them
There's plenty to "waste" a small amount for a soap🙂
That was my first thought 😂 Blueberry muffins
She's not wasting. She IS enjoying.
This is literally a SOAP making channel so why people come here and make these unnecessary comments is beyond me. 🙄
How ignorant
Your soaps are the most expensive I ever saw, 34 dollars for one soap? They don't even have patterns in different colours, just stamps.
Here in the US, we are seldom told about the economies and cost of living in other countries. Even when we travel, we don't really see it, we just think that the prices are high for tourists.
Although Finland is one of the most desirable places to live, it is not one of the cheapest. The ingredients you saw go into that beautiful soap were premium, and I am sure, very costly.
A better question would be " How much time, effort, and money went into producing this soap and video?"
The relaxing video was free, the amazing recipe was free, and I think we are fortunate to be able to experience Sara's soapmaking this way. There's much to be learned and appreciated. Simple soaps are by far the hardest to master. ❤
It's funny that you don't even look twice what's for sale before complaining about the price🙂 We sell soap stamps. They're handmade, and we put a lot of effort into making them. We just started selling them and we're still figuring out the pricing since shipping overseas is very expensive.
Thank you Susan❤️
@@tellervo.your stamps are beautiful! And I saw all the loving Energy that went into them. Would that I could, I would 😉😉💗
Thank you so much Brigid🤗💝
Great ❤
