    The first time I made this recipe, the soap overheated during saponification and cracked down the top (even uninsulated with no lid on the log mold). So with this batch, I just put the mold in the freezer (with no lid) and left it overnight.
    *** RECIPE ***
    Coconut Oil - 100%
    Superfat - 20%
    Water = 2 x sodium hydroxide (33% lye solution)
    To calculate the sodium hydroxide for your specific recipe size, you can use a soap calculator like the one at Majestic Mountain Sage:
    goo.gl/7hH5Vw
    Pink Kaolin Clay (aka Rose Clay)
    1 teaspoon hydrated clay per cup of soap
    My recipes are listed in percentages so you can adjust them to fit your specific mold size. If you need help converting the percentages to grams or ounces, here’s a great article from Lovin’ Soap: bit.ly/2LGxofa

    DISCLAIMER: I make these videos to share my own personal methods and techniques for how I make cold process soap. These videos are not intended as tutorials for beginners. These videos are intended for those who already have an understanding of cold process soap making. Cold process soapmaking has many variables and involves working with sodium hydroxide (NaOH, also referred to as lye). Lye and raw soap can damage your eyes and burn your skin. When making soap, you should already know and practice lye safe handling procedures and always wear safety gear. While I hope you find watching my videos helpful or entertaining, so many variables go into making soap and even the smallest change can greatly affect the results; therefore, I am not liable or responsible for your results if you try any of the methods or techniques that I use in my videos.

    For all those people who wants to try soap making at their homes or in their backyard just to pursue for fun or to sell and make some money please beware of the risks that can be harmful ingredients used in soap making. learn or try attending a soap making class by professional. please wear eye protection glasses hand gloves and mouth masks and an synthetic Apron and prefer doing in outside in open space but not in enclosed cabins or rooms in case if something goes wrong. i believe we can start using soap after 45 days of making. Safety comes first guys. Great artistic soap making video.

    Very nice. I've been making 100% coconut soap for a few years here in Panama. I use oil that my neighbour makes by hand over an open fire (it smells beautifully smokey and is fabulous to cook with also). We have a river nearby with beautiful red clay and your video has inspired me to add a little to my batter. Thanks a lot for posting.

      So every time I try hot process olive oil soap (even with a tiny bit of coconut oil...or not) it NEVER harderns. Does olive oil not like hot process? Does olive oil soap take literally a year to cure? If you could do a hot process 100% olive oil soap and tricks to make it actually harden that would be cool. I'm thinking of experimenting with a ton of sea salt to combat this problem but tired of wasting materials!

    So glad I came across this video this morning while eating my breakfast! I am planning to make 100% coconut oil soap today, and would have put it in a preheated 170° oven and turn it off! That would’ve been so so bad. Perfect timing! I will be pouring in a rectangular mold that makes 12 individual bars. I’ve heard if it cures too long it’s hard to cut, so not taking any chances! Thank you for all your hard work making these videos. I always learn so much from you!

    I love working with coconut oil soap! Its so white and amazing and at 20% fat, not drying at all and very bubbly!!! Love the video! A question, curiously only, why did you pour in increments? Was it because of the mold you were using?

    • @hollysoapmaking
      @hollysoapmaking  5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Thank you! Yes, I poured in increments because with this mold, pouring the in-the-pot swirl all at once tends to leave half the soap without any color or swirl. At least for me, anyway. When I started pouring the round soaps in increments like this, I got more soaps with interesting swirls. Thanks for asking!

    Hello Holly. Such a beautiful soap making. You inspired me to do soap making and now my desk is full of tools and ingredients for soap making.
    Question, do you think the clay would be the cause of the crack if not putting into the freezer?

    ok quick question... because base is coconut oil will the soap still withstand heat of shower? does the lye help keep soap solid longer

    Is it true that soap will get harder when we put 100% coconut oil? Than 100% palm oil?

    Beautiful and excellent, as always - but what is the actual purpose of making a 100% coconut soap? Despite the 20% superfatting would it not be drying?

      Thank you! I made it for a subscriber who requested the video. Single oil soaps are definitely interesting to try. However, I found the soap incredibly drying to the skin even with the extra superfat. Coconut oil in high percentages is just too cleansing for me. I’ve heard from a lot of soapmakers who do like it, though. I’m sure it just depends on the person and their skin type. :)

    Hey, lovely recipe .......can i add 1.5% citric acid + 1.5% table white/processed sugar to this 100% coconut oil recipe to the water when I add in the lye? Also, when I add extra lye for accounting for the citric acid, should i also add more water or should water remain unchanged?

    I always make 100% coconut oil soap, it is a sure winner because it's a hard bar, lasts long and lathers well. Also it's great as a shampoo bar. Love it. Just a question, what is your liner paper called and where do you purchase it, I live in New Zealand and I haven't had any luck finding the right liner paper. Awesome video thank you for sharing

      You could use freezer paper to line molds.

      Do you add anything to harden your bars? I make a 100% coconut oil bar superfatted to 18% but I find the bars on the soft side and don't last as long I think they should.
