We're relying on grocery delivery providers to get our food and other supplies. This is really cool, I live in a room so my window is my garden space. I grow avocado plants, and because the air in my room gets very dry, I'm finding that leaving them grow in water is making the leaves grow much faster and don't dry out, not like if they we're growing in soil- I've thrown out too many plants because of the air. 😕
    Greetings from NYC!!😄💗🌷

I have regrown green onions in a container in my garden that are going on 3 years old now. I just keep going out and cutting off the tops. Then I chop them and freeze in a container. To over winter them I cover the container with leaves to insulate the ground an keep frost off of them. It's pretty amazing. I'm going to try regrowing Bok Choy next.

Wonderful idea indeed. You can also grow microgreens in your kitchen, and sprouts. Great for your salads. Also incredibly healthy.
If you place your onion roots in a container with potting mix, they will last you much longer, and they will also be stronger. The same is true for other plants that can be regrown, including a lot of kitchen herbs.
MiGardener has a video on how to regrow kitchen herbs. That saves a lot of money and is quite easily done.

Your lettuce was bitter because it was bolting. it wanted to make seeds because it had a sense of dying... the lettuce felt either too cold or too hot, that's why it grew so tall to produce seeds.. a lettuce is sweeter wwhen it's in their bush like form

Great tips Wendy; what a fun family activity also. I think I will do this for rabbit food when we get our rabbit farm up and going. Thanks for sharing. I really liked the shout outs at the end. Full watch, big like as always! 😊👍

Neat, Vara! I think rabbits will enjoy the tops. How fun that you're going getting a rabbit farm going. Do you plan to share that on your channel? Thank you for all your support!! :)

@@TheFrugalMinimalist It might be something I share from time to time. We are hoping to get it started in a few months. We really prefer the idea of knowing where our food comes from, and rabbits are a wonderfully sustainable meat source. 🐰

great ideas, but pesto has actually pistachio and parmesan in them ,which makes them richer in flavour.Yours is very much the basic ingredient only, but also nice to try of course.

Hi there! Excellent video! So informative and you spoke at such a easy pace it was easy to absorb the information. Quick question, why Does the remaining come back bitter? I just recently purchased them from the store and would love to try but I mainly do eat them in in salads

Thank you so much! It has to do with the lack of nutrition. Using soil or liquid fertilizer seems to help. Good luck!

Great video! Thank you for sharing. I’ve learnt so much from your channel. You give me so much helpful information and inspire me to want to better myself. I learn something new everyday. I’m excited after watching. I want to try new things and you make me think on how I could repurpose things I already have and what I don’t necessarily need. So, thank you for taking time out to share your wonderful tips and keep up the good work.

Love this I have never done carrots before or bok choy, before! I was wondering, I would love to know a traditional soup recipe that you make they always look so tasty in your videos. ❤️

Much of what I do isn't traditional because I don't have the time or I'm too lazy to do it the proper way 😅. I'll see about a soup video. Thank you for the great idea, Carisa and I hope you have a great weekend ahead :)

ive done this a lot .I also grew a bucket full of garlic .I do that to with the veggy tops.i had some radishes that I used the tops and eat them .I was thinking why not they should be eatable to right?

    • @TheFrugalMinimalist
      @TheFrugalMinimalist  5 ปีที่แล้ว

That's so great to hear, Judith! Garlic would be awesome. I have a couple of cloves going now but they're not doing too well :(. Radish tops sounds awesome - yes why not?! I'll bet they're very nutritious too. Thank you for the great idea!

I eat radish tops, squash, cucumber and zucchini leaves. Sautee them In a little bit of olive oil and garlic. I also harvest the flowers from squash, cucumber and zucchini plants, chop them up and throw them in quesadillas.

You must have great quality products at your local, my carrot tops didnt grow ar ALL, my spring onions grew only about 2 or 3 cm in one week but they were my best growth, my radish tops grew about 3cm leaves but mostly just got slimy and soft and smelly, maybe rot? On the bottom, and when washing that off, the radish part itself being just mushy, fell off.. so not sure I can plant those, although they have nice leaves. I out some other radish tops straight into soil, they shot up leaves, bit healthier flesh part.. hope they can produce more radish... but I'm going to try buying carrot and celery with tops still on them, my local sells those.. and cut some of the tops off, plant.. ans hopefull they grow better... :) wondr why my carrots sidnt grow at all. I changed water daily and keep them on a heat mat. Maybe they need sun!
