I’d argue with you that it is a connection but… Gimple. He’s a lot of setup with no or underwhelming payoff. I’d like to think you’re wrong and that we’ll find that the ppp card was for the primrose team labs or something. But I have no faith in Gimple’s world building at this point.
I can be on board with the theory the card is now ret-conned to be French scientists in origin or connection. But where Daryl was and where the town was, etc - I don't think it connects to Daryl directly
its really sad how many shows they've allowed gimple to ruin. was rewatching fear, its absolutely insane how bad that show gets after season 3. its indescribably bad
I just remember watching half of this episode as I thought Tales, other than Alpha's back story, was really boring. I do like it when a connection can be made between spinoffs.
Some people from Maine and New Hampshire came from Quebec and speak French. Not all. When I Iived in NH locals called French speaking New Englanders originally from Quebec Canucks.
The PPP card, French people, Daryl mentioned he was in Maine before he was captured. That's way too many things for there not to be a connection and if there isn't then the writers are just trolling us so we can all argue online LOL... also James awesome that you brought up that's Scott gimple mentioned on the Talking Dead the PPP card was originally the CRM logo and they changed it to something else
I saw the sign for where they are near on the coast, Freeport (they could go to LLBean) but yeah French speakers are up north, not down here. I’m 15 mins from Freeport, and we have a lot of rivers which are great for ships. A lot of fisherman and ships in portland, and then of course the navy shipyard in Bath. So big destroyer ships just hanging around. So cool to see Maine finally part of it, I had always wondered what it would be like here.
I’m from Maine on the coast Downeast Maine right next to Canada. Not many French speakers a lot come through, but it’s mostly Quebec French, which would be completely different than regular French. Either way a lot of meters probably would fall back to what their ancestors did to survive here I don’t understand the colonial clothes unless they made them from scratch, but that wouldnt make sense you’d be more likely to see people wearing buckskin because we don’t have cotton here
Nope. Different blade shape. Carol's Trench knife have an American tanto blade shape and Daryl is just a spear point also Carol's knife blade is shorter than the one that Daryl use in recent episode
I'm thinking this was an introduction to what we will see in this show, and that's why it was made. It'll probably be the most important Tales episode to the canon, and I'm pretty sure Davon will show up again.
So, as a Mainer I can kinda clarify a couple of things- the tiny community depicted in Tales was based off the Acadian community between Madawaska and Van Buren, which is on the northernmost border of Maine, literally within sight of the Canadian border. This community is similar to Quakers or Amish communities and are French speaking, as it likely predates Maines statehood and was technically in French Canadian territory. Most people who live in that area along the border do speak French and English, my in- laws are from the area so I know it pretty well. Now, the area Daryl visited is Freeport, which is in Southern Maine about 10 miles north of Portland, a fairly urban area and major shopping destination with dozens of outlet stores and LL Bean, of course. The distance between the two areas is about a four hour drive, so there is no connection. Also, I kind of take umbrage with the depiction of locals on the show as backwoods hillbilly extras from Deliverance. First, most spoke with decidedly southern accents, and in reality, Southern Maine is actually a (relatively) densely populated region, with the majority of the state's population. However, they did get the Freeport sign right, though.
I’m from Calais and the backwoods people would be up here fisherman trappers hunters I don’t think many out of staters “aka you weren’t born here” pushed out you’d have a lot of Native Americans as well all over Maine definitely banded together
Great recap...I really liked this episode too. It was interesting to see Isabelle's life right b4 the zombie apocalypse. I got a kick out of 'Father' Darryl. I feel that there was plenty of action. Really liking this show so far. Thx James!
I mean, maybe the place in ftwd was from an area that they are still wearing that style of clothing? Or still live old school life? Ever heard of the Amish? Lol 😂 I'm just theorizing though! Could be a religious thing too. Maybe they wear clothing that covers most skin. Don't remember too much of the episode but that could explain why they're dressed not as modern. Daryl got given an outfit with suspenders and a cloth like shirt 😂
As you know I didn't like.I might try it again.but you thinking Daryl went from Virginia (right ?), up here to Maine and then got aboard that ship? I don't have any theory.

As a Mainer they better put that detail in....and NO we don't all speak French, majority know cuss words but that's it and we aren't all backwoods!
lol
Thanks for watching Amanda! Helllloooooooo Maine!

Did you notice that in episode 2 of Daryl he has carol’s knife!?!?

He looks like Heaths brother, it might be the glasses

How is the phone back to Commonwealth even working?
I am guessing that is a radio - but with a ?army style handset receiver
I'd be all for it the connection, but we know they don't do the super obvious chances to actually build a cohesive world. I hope I'm proven wrong fwiw
A Train run so fast he bonk his head
if they don't connect it they are doing it all wrong
Also, Devon was going to Montreal because Canadian Zombies are much friendlier. 😂
Loved Tales... All of them...grounhog the least.... They were a theme of finding who you will be...common in twd

I justed watched the tales ep last week cus I remember Davon that ep was makes me wonder if Daryl was near that location where the French descents was
if he was only along the coast he was not near - but we don't know all the details yet
Like I Always Say! - The Awesomeness Continues!!! 👊✊😎👍👌

that's too cool
The card shows there is a link.
I'll give you that, you're good at drawing circles on maps? Conclusions, less so.
haha yep

Yes, in the trailer at the end of E1 he was on a radio and said (?to Carol) "I am in Maine - up the coast"
Tales was probably the single worst thing I've ever seen in my life. So, I'd actually be annoyed if it connects, lol.
I might have to put it second to Fear S7 haha
As soon as the plot of the false messiah came up I left the room. Plot is trash.
Yip SUPER TARSH WRITING ✍️
