    Finally I was able to do pop up. It was because I was not using my torso to bring my knees up. Thanks man! Great tutorial keep them coming!

    Man, I watched @1:10 in slow-mo about 20 times and it was SO dang helpful. The hamstrings and core are so important to be engaged. I'm gonna start focusing on this little (but powerful) movement!

    Finally someone who pops up on the floor without the foot on the floor...so many unrealistic tutorials out there creating bad habits, the movement feels totally different. When I started to pop up on the floor like that I was thinking ''how the hell people can do that ?'' but training training training is the only answer ! Quick one though, try to land your blackfoot flat, if you land on your toe it s going to be trouble in the water. cheers !

      Dude, same here. At first I was like wow it’s so easy on the ground, why can’t I do this in the water? Because we don’t use our feet in the water! Unless you’re on a log.

    I started doing modified pop up burpees to strengthen my upper body, timing and foot placement. Started on the ground, moved to a 23" wide soft top board and then onto the soft top board with 2 15" innertubes underneath to dial in balance. It's all about the core and how you control it. Notice how this instructor has a very muscular upper body, you don't have to be that big but upper body strength and core control is key. Practicing pop ups on dry land is so important there just aren't enough waves to get a lot of practice in the lineup.

    • @sparkfit6
      @sparkfit6 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      2 15” innertubes setting is very creative! Where did you get them? Thanks!

    This is the best pop up video on TH-cam. He is so right using your toes maybe easier for the beginner, but learning to pop from knees is crucial. Especially when you come off the longboard

    Great and totally functional tutorial. Thanks !!
    Based on my personal experience, try to do it on a bed/mattress or use a Knee cap to avoid abrasions.
    Also, arching the back a bit more makes it much easier to spring back.

    • @unnikrishnannair337
      @unnikrishnannair337 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sparkfit6 yes, basically avoid doing a straight push up. Also arching would help you see straight ahead , else you would be looking at the board during popup

    Thanks for making this video. I'm land-locked and my pop ups even using feet sucked as someone who only gets to ride a handful of times a year... now I have knee pop-ups for days! Makes long board pop-ups seem like nothing now... I hope you make more content for your channel!

    Great pop up tutorial and excellent technique and cues, but for the record, you are indeed putting your back foot down before front foot - just much faster so it's almost imperceivable. I think it's okay to condition your technique by starting with bringing trailing knee up first to get the feel of the motion and then just do it faster and faster.

    Congrats on presenting about the best pop up video around. Slow-mo is what lacks in so many others. Great explanation of the body movement sequence too. Only one thing, should the hands be on the deck after the feet have landed?

    Great video, it seems natural that the front foot will land 2nd, cause it has farther to go. So close as not to matter. This method is what you want to wind up with, so why not start with it, ya?

      That's not usually too bad and is considered normal actually, some of the pros do it then they adjust the back foot once they're up. It's fine for the most part as long as it's not too far forward :)

    Great video, although I do think that the commentary about pushing off of the toes is a bit dismissive . If you think of it in terms of the ombe walk up to pop up method then there’s effectively little to no difference between the shortboard/toes assisted versions. Someone on a mal or bigger can definitely use their toes in critical take offs. Having said that, as someone who learned to push off from my toes first, it did take a bit of habit breaking to move to the no toes pop up, so I agree that if someone is physically capable, learning the no toes pop up straight away is definitely the way to go!
