Excellent content. At 77 I am always looking for better insights for fitness. I walk 5-10 miles almost every day, and have a small gyn next to my office that I hit for a short time every few hours. I have increased my protein intake. I work out in the Patrick Space Force gym (in Florida) when I am in the US. It is impressive to talk with WWII veterans who still come to the gym almost daily. There is a social support that is traditional in military veterans.

Great info on exercise in older adults. We need to consume more ANIMAL protein (and the fat that comes with meat)that comes as we age. Crude protein found in plants isn’t bioavailable the way that animal protein is.

I’m pushing 60 & started BFR (KAATSU) with B STRONG today…..already nutritionally ketogenic mostly Carnivor. Feel better than in my late 30’s! Thanks for all the research and life quality podcasts.

    According to Dan John, he suggests every 50+ year old should test themselves every day to make sure they're able to ;
    1) Stand on one foot for 10 seconds
    2) 30-sec deep squat (toilet test)
    3) 30-sec hanging from a bar (grip strength)
    4) Getting off the ground without using your hands (Brazilian/Turkish get-up)
    5) 5 foot Standing long jump
He also recommends walking on uneven surfaces or doing one-leg balancing exercises on a shaker plate.. and practicing how to fall (tumbling). It's similar to Georges Herbert “Natural Method” / parkour :
    Pursuit-walk, run, crawl ,
Escape-climb, balance, jump, swim , bike
    Attack-throw, lift, fight
Of course, for the young he says you need to be able to do pull-ups, dead-lift, etc.

Thank you for this, I found it very inspirational, just turned 60 and believe I need to develope a program, used to go to a gym 4 days a week, but haven't been for a very long time. I will be looking into the concurrent method you spoke of. I appreciate your video very much.

Excellent presentation. Would love to see more studies about frequency of weightlifting and trunk fat, as well as different modalities of weightlifting. (Paired with aerobic exercise of course)

My understanding about having protein at bedtime to help with muscle synthesis only benefited athletics not the general population. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Interesting discussion. Unfortunately, the initial sample size was way too small to draw conclusions. Also, variables including diet and supplementation were not controlled.

Luckily, other studies prove him right.

Have any of the studies been prospective? Has anyone shown the old people with a 10yr life expectancy based on gait actually live longer if they start working out so late, or is it simply a wishful guess in that people who were already fit will live longer, and someone is hoping if you start at the 11th hour you can make up for it?

Forget the big pharma, join a gym! I’m 63 and have a trainer, and I’m doing powerlifting. It’s better than anything that big pharma can sell me.
