Oh my gosh, Janelle. We got back from the UK a couple of weeks ago, spent a couple of days in Edinburgh. It is wonderful. The castle you will see in the city, sitting on top of a volcano we were told was in the Wizard of Oz. You will see why, the exterior is quite creepy looking. We also happened on The Writers Museum, a beautiful old home housing things by Robert Louis Stevenson and Robert Burns. We also saw from the gate, the castle the royal family stays in when in Scotland. There was a pub, can't remember the name, about 'half hung Maggie', a woman who was hung but did not die, thus the name. There is so much to explore. A beautiful park. You will have a blast. I cannot wait to hear about your trip. It is a beautiful city.
You will love Edinburgh! It's a fantastic city with an amazing literary history. If (when) you go to Waterstones, if you look out of the window on the top floor, you have a great view of the castle which is just over the road perched on top of the hill, looking over the city. It's a steep walk up to the castle but a must do. Princes Street Gardens are great to read in. It's a very compact City, great to walk but there are some good open top bus tours and probably some walking tours. You will love the architecture. Congratulations!
Happy Anniversary, Janelle! Congratulations! The trip sounds lovely, and so do the books you've chosen. A friend of mine is visiting Scotland in mid-May. Happy travels!! (I love the new hair color.)
Hi Janelle, you are not married 25 years! You look way too young. I’m so happy you’re going to Edinburg. It’s a wonderful city. I was there in the 80s for a day or two but I still remember how beautiful it was. Isn’t it fun to plan a trip? I’m planning one to Europe as well for September. By the way I’m really enjoying your suggestion of The chuckling fingers by Mabel Seeley. Aloha
Ohh this is so exciting! I live in Edinburgh so I'm happy to give you a ton of bookshop recommendations: big chain bookshops, small indie bookshops, second hand bookshops, bookshops for charity... we have it all! Also... have added all of these to my TBR hehehehe
How wonderful, Janelle! Happy anniversary to you both!!! I am so excited for you for your trip. I do have a favorite series set in Edinburgh: 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith. The series has one of my two most favorite characters in literature: a little boy named Bertie; he is right up there with Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird. 44 Scotland is a contemporary setting, however, but so cozy and charming, quirky and humorous. There is a Glasgow connection as well.
I've read a few books in that series and enjoyed them. There is just something about Alexander McCall Smith - he can write cozy and charming and quirky like no one else!
Hey, Janelle!!! I hope you're doing well. Your hair looks great!!! I'm loving the color. I want to wish you and your husband all the love and happiness on your upcoming anniversary. Deadly Editions and Blood In The Water sound really interesting. Have a safe trip, and be safe😊😊😊
I went to Edinburgh years ago for the festival. I went into a bookstore that prominently displayed a best seller list. I said to to the woman, "You're bestseller list is not that different from the one in the US." She looked at me and said, "Well, that's certainly depressing."
Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary!! What a splendid sounding trip! I spent some time in Scotland on my study abroad trip and loved it. Near Neighbours by Molly Clavering is set in Edinburgh. It was published recently by Dean Street Press and it's a delightful story about an older woman who befriends a family next door.
Congrats on 25 years ❤ loving the hair! I've always wanted to visit Edinburgh, I hope you have a wonderful time. All the books sound great especially In Place of Fear. My favourite book set in Edinburgh is The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie though it's not a mystery. A mystery in Edinburgh I really want to get to is Dark Matter by Doug Johnstone. Its about 3 generations of women who run a funeral home and a private detective agency.
Janelle, you are going to love Edinburgh. It has such a dark history and is so atmospheric with beautiful architecture, I've been at least 3 times and absolutely love it there. Make sure you take a decent pair of walking shoes as" the royal mile" up to the castle is steep but so worth it.❤😀
What a great trip; I hope there’s lots of book shopping while you’re in Edinburgh! Those all sound really good and I know they’ll “put you in the mood” for Scotland. 😉 Also, your hair looks great!
25 year anniversary--wow! You don't look old enough to have been married that long Janelle! I hope you have a great trip. Scotland has always interested me so I may be giving some of your recommendations a try. Several of them sound quite intriguing!
Happy Anniversary! 🎉, I hope you have a great trip! I managed to get quite a few Ian Rankin's Rebus books from our local pay less books but I haven't read any yet. 🙂
Congrats on your upcoming anniversary! Edinburgh is one of those cities that seems a perfect setting for mysteries. Judging by some of the Edinburgh-based book tubers, there are some great bookshops there, so hope you have the chance to check them out on your trip. Also, love the hair!
Happy Anniversary to BOTH of you !! What a fabulous trip idea, I wish I lived somewhere near there so I could do something fun like that...super idea !! BTW: I LOVE the new hair ! Great idea and it really looks nice against your skin ! I have always wanted to go red !! LOL characterizations
Good heavens part of my message got erased !! I wanted to tell you about my first 5 star book and my newest latest favorite author. Her name is Lynda S. Robinson. The series of books begin with: Murder In the Place of Anubis. The very best writing, best research, best characterization, the whole thing is just the best. Were you the one that turned me on to this author ?? OMG folks give her a try she is excellent!
Congratulations to you and your husband, Janelle! Hope you have a wonderful time in Edinburgh (I'm jealous 🤣)and I look forward to any videos you might film there. I haven't read any of those books but they sound good! I enjoy reading the Isabel Dalhousie series by Alexander McCall Smith from time to time which is set in Edinburgh. I can't wait to go there someday. Love your hair! 📚🥰🏴
How fun! I'm so excited for you to get to travel! What a great anniversary celebration!! Ian Rankin is my favorite Scottish mystery author and I like Val Mcdermid too. Especially her Kate Brannigan ones, but I don't think they are set in Edinburgh. Kate Atkinson has one set in Edinburgh, I believe. I've also read Liam McIlvanney. His are pretty graphic. The Walsh and the Galbraith ones sound interesting. The Miller one seems a bit grim. I've read Shelton, but not that book. Look forward to your reviews and your videos from your holiday!
Would love to go to Edinburgh and see Rebus’s places. Love that series and Rankin’s writing so much- this series was what first got me into crime fiction. Look forward to the Edinburgh video. I would totally take some Rebus to read in the right location. I believe there is a book called Rebus’s Edinburgh if you want some ideas. 😊 Happy Anniversary! 😊
I LOVE Edinburgh ! I went twice in my twenties and I think it’s my favorite city of all times, city walks, book stores and simple but lovely pub food, so much history! I’ve heard of an Edinburgh book by Louis Stevenson that sounded good! Are you going soon? Your hair looks great, trip ready! This sounds like a great Edinburgh pile, all new to me.
Awesome and congratulations 🏰. Also, I had a question on your other video - would you recommend Josephine Tey's book? I will check out your recommendations as well. Have a wonderful time and happy anniversary ❤️❤️
I have the Paige Sheldon ones on my TBR. The one where the woman finds someone she knows on the autopsy table sounds intriguing. I hope you all have a wonderful time in Edinburgh! PS I like your hair!
