Just picked one of these 5hp 11r long shaft up today. Tomorrow I’m grabbing a 4 hp 96 Johnson sea horse with under 100 hours on it for 500 Canadian Great info with this video. Keep the vintage motors going. They have life left!! Cheers !!!

Johnson had that kind of versatility with a few motors like the 84 7.5 hp that I have about the only difference was the carburetors vs a 4 hp.

They make a screw on transom that sets up 6 inches you can put on and off that way you can run a long shaft

Hi, I just replaced my coils on my six hp. One cylinder was cutting out. Also throttle was hard to turn. Replaced coils, no spark either cylinder. Followed ignition wires around. Both broke off at the clamp next to starter. Replaced ignition wires one at a time. Had to removed new coils again. Checked I had spark with gap tester. Fueled her up and now get a backfire? Long ignition lead is going to top cylinder. Shorter lead by starter assy goes to bottom cylinder. Any thoughts? I did notice my points were gapped to about 0.014 vs 0.020 spec. It was running fine last year so did not want to mess with that. Any advice appreciated.

I saw your recoil video. Will most likely have to do that. I’m new to outboard motors. Last time I launched on a slow river it didn’t have the power to go up river. I think a 4hp evinrude should be able to go up slow current. Any ideas where I should start problem solving? Thanks

I've been trying to get my grandpa's old '79 johnson 15 hp outboard engine running. It ran when it went into storage, but it's been sitting for over 15 years. I am extremely green when it comes to boat engines. Aside from changing the water pump and gear oil, is there any other critical parts that need overhauled before trying to run it?

Thanks for all these videos. I have a 2000 Johnson 25 and a '71 Evinrude 6. The 6 has a puzzling situation going on. When the tank to motor hose is disconnected a small amount of fuel spills from the fitting on the lower cowling. Some of the fuel in the hose running from the connection fitting to the screen cover on the fuel pump runs out. I took that fitting off and found that there is no check ball in it, nor does it appear that one ever existed. Did the older small motors not have a check ball there? Thanks

@@BrandonsGarage Do you mean the video 'Where power meets water'? I couldn't find the 6hp 2 blade prop anywhere in that one. But never mind, it proved quicker to go and remove it and have a look. I still cannot understand why this all important part of an outboard is so ignored on youtube. You all (Americans) seem too obsessed with three blades and going as fast as possible!
However, I did find a much shorter tutorial on prop types and their usage. Many thanks.
