I am European and cannot understand the comments or believe their prices. A round trip from West Palm Beach to Miami any day during regular hours costs between $79 and $130 per person. A round trip Miami-Orlando, between $200 and $450. This last one is over $1,000 or as much as $1,800 for a family of 4. None of those scenarios include food and beverages in transit, or transfers to and from the station (or the equivalent parking fee if you leave your car). The USA has much, much to do to really be able to offer affordable and convenient train transportation.
As an American I can inform you that you are looking at a privately owned Rail Road. Take a look at AM trak's site as I just did. I inquired for a one way from Orlando to Miami. It is $31 per person one way. You also have the option of a Roomette for $232. So your family of four is going to run you $250 Round Trip for the whole group or maybe even less. No where near $1,800 ! Of course it will be a little longer trip as you are not going 125 mph. AM Trak is the DB of America. Brightline is private rail with Orient Express prices.
Brightline is similar to Italo, a private rail operator in Italy that competes with the state-owned Trenitalia. However, Italo is much more affordable, showing that the U.S. has a lot of catching up to do in terms of rail service. High prices are a key reason Americans haven't embraced trains. Plus, Brightline doesn't qualify as a high-speed train by global standards-it's far slower than true bullet trains like those in Europe and Asia. We shouldn't settle for lower standards when it comes to rail infrastructure.
@@Mikejakester You think $100 for a 3 hr 50 min Acela train from NY to DC is "High priced"? Or how about $95 on an auto train coach seat with your car on board for around $200? Brightline is a privately owned for profit rail service that had to pay for its roadbed. America "Embraced trains" for over 100 years. "High prices" had nothing to do with the switch to the auto. The Oil Companies and their lobbyists had more to do with it. Eisenhower had a cabinet full of ex GM executives . Maintinance of road beds is the responsibility of the Railroad. Railroads had to build their own terminals but Airports are built by municipalites. Buses ride roads maintained by the government. Unfair competition whose goal it was to end passenger service and get folks to burn fuel. They created the "Highway" lobby which people think is a group of concerned citizens fighting for better roads but is actually funded by the oil and car industry to fight every proposal for better public transport that comes along. There is a wonderful video you might get at your local library called "Taken for a ride" which is an eye opener. Several of the auto related corporations like GM and I think Goodyear were convicted in court of conspiracy to destroy the Los Angeles interurban trolley system. it was one of the best at the time and was bought by a front company and deliberately sabotaged so it could be replaced by highways and GM busses. These multi million dollar companies were fined $5000!

Brightline works because it is fast. The super chief is cool. It was not time competitive. I lived in Japan and France. Been on both bullet trains. This was back in the 90s. It's a disgrace that we finally have a high speed train in 2024. FYI, this is no where close to the speed of a bullet train.
It’s a shame we cannot have this train that travels throughout the US. As the interstates continue to become crowded what a great way to travel the US. Clean fast and economical. Great video and thank yall for taking the time to ride and share your experiences , Hopefully will ride it soon
The Infrastructure plan pushed through by Biden and supported by both parties included massive funding that has kicked off or expanded around a dozen large scale passenger train projects in the country. The US is finally investing real money in passenger rail.
I travel every Spring to Florida on Am Track's Auto Train. It doesn't go 125 per hour but it gets me there faster than I can drive. As a lone Driver I would need an overnight stay along the wad
Got cut off (Computer glitch). To Florida as a lone Driver I would need an overnight stay in a hotel, 4 tanks of gas and 3-4 meals. I can get a Roomette on Am Track Auto train under $500 with my car. Meals are free. So in essence I can train down cheaper than drive with no wear and tear on my car.
We will be back to full time sailing after hurricane season on our boat but for now we are really loving trying some different traveling videos! Next week we are filing on the brand new leopard 46 all electronic so make sure to watch out for that video in a few weeks!
As an American/Floridian good to see a step in the right direction !! Been on these trains especially in the UK and in Italy they are unmatched when it comes to traveling by a car. Especially in Europe there are so many amenities on the speed trains. Congratulations and wish more of these would be a solution to the overcrowded expressways in Florida.
This should be the future! I don’t understand why we are late to the party. More jobs a different alternative than flying or driving. We need this all over the country or at least the big cities.
A friend of mine recently took this train and was impressed. I just wish that this sort of service expanded to more regions of the country, like the northeast or California. I'm sure that eventually it will. In the US many people think of trains as an afterthought but in most of the rest of the world they're a major way of getting from place to place, with multiple runs per day on most routes. Thanks for this!
They're building a Brightline West from Rancho Cucamonga (just west of LA) to Vegas right now. I'm excited for it because I can walk the mile to the metrolink station and be in Vegas in about three hours. Faster than flying with the reduced check ins.
It is available in the North East ! We have Acela Run by Am Trak. It runs from Washington DC to Boston. You can go from the Capitol building in DC to 34 Street in Manhattan in 3hr and 50 min. This is faster than going to and from the 2 airports in a taxi going through security and flying to NYC. Problem is that every time someone wants to put in high speed rail Congress fights it. The Oil lobby is powerful.
I enjoy the Brightline very much. I feel fortunate to be 15 min from the station. I must have taken it 20 times. By far the best Train in the country. It’s pricey but you get a lot for the price. 😊
@@J-ZIMthey are included with premium seats. You get access to a lounge with unlimited snacks, beer, soda, and on the train you also get all the snacks and drinks included. I go sometimes two hours ahead of time and work on the laptop in the lounge
Except it's not rational. It's more expensive, slower, and you lose your flexibility to come and go as you please. Especially if you're running a small family up to see the park for an afternoon. I wouldn't mind riding the train for the experience, but it's largely a luxury product, not an important improvement to the state's transportation infrastructure.
@@SeanSmith66 I wouldn't pull the experience card on me. I live in South Florida. I could walk out my door and be at the gates of the Magic Kingdom in under 3 hours. It's not a hard drive. Compare that to getting to the station early enough to not risk missing your train, parking, embarking, taking the train, stopping at each station, disembarking, waiting for an uber or shuttle to take you to your destination. The train may go faster than the car, but the car is already almost halfway to Orlando by the time the train pulls out of the station. And, yeah, it's cheaper driving. Especially if you're bringing a family. A round trip is well under a tank of gas. Add some tolls and parking. But for Brightline you also have to pay for parking and shuttle/uber. So, explain to me what rational economic motivation I have for using Brightline.
@@JonSmith-hk1bq Don't play the experience card on me... Florida is a horrible place to travel in. It's archaic, I've stayed there for about 6mos. I've worked in the bike industry for 25+ years, which has afforded me to live in Taiwan, Japan, Germany, UK, New York, California, and Texas. Most have well built, well thought out HSR, subways, and light rail (even Texas in spots). All are 20x less stressful, and so much more beneficial for family travel than any highway could be. If you had HSR to travel the route you picked out, you'd be there in less than an hour an d your family would be rested and ready to go for the day. The best part, if you plan it right, you'd be back home in the same day.
When we move to Florida, we are definitely going to take give that trip a shot! We used to take the autotrain from Virginia to Orlando (Sanford), and the kids loved the train as much as Disney!
@@gewglesux You are talking to tightwad geezers who think that Amtrak should carry their car on board for free. It is just like the airlines. It depends on when you buy your tickets and which direction you are going and how crowded the train is. For instance I went last Spring Southbound for $400 +. That included the Car .I had a roomette on the train too. It included 2 meals, dinner and breakfast. It was cheaper than driving where I would be purchasing 3-4 meals a hotel room and 4 tanks of gas. For comparison call a transport company and ask what they charge to bring your car down there. My neighbor paid $1200. Bear in mind no one is headed down there in May they are going the opposite way so it gets more expensive coming back with all the snow birds. In early June I paid $1000 to go back to NY because the train was 95% full. However on this trip I had a Deluxe Bedroom which sleeps 2 and has its own toilet, shower, and vanity. For dinner you get a full sit down meal ordered from a menu. Rooms are not mandatory and if you want to ruff it in a coach seat you can get that seat as low as $95. My TIP is "Book Early" just like with flights. I also have the AMTRAK credit card. It is a no brainier. Depending on the promotion you can get up to 40k miles to take the card which is already enough for a free one way autotrain trip NY to florida.
@@gewglesux Autotrian is very expensive, especially if you get a roomette or bedroom. My mother and I used it on a Canadian road trip. I appreciated not driving. However, as all Amtrak trains and track, it is old and beat up. It takes more time than flying, but less stress. Also, it only has two stations: Sanford, Florida outside of Orlando, and Lorton, VA outside of DC.

Love your video, very informative! But, please don't put your feet with shoes on the other seats. No telling what is on them for the next passengers to sit in.
That is a very impressive train set ... your speed is faster than what we do on VIA Rail across Canada, well actually in Ontario ... the fastest I've seen is about 150 KPH which is about 93 MPH. You guys are doing at least 201 KPH. Very comfortable looking seats too. Our new VIA Rail train sets in Ontario consist of the locomotive plus 5 coaches, one of which is a Cab Car. So when the train is returning from it's trip, you could be seated in the Cab Car and you would hear the train horn as being much louder. Really enjoyed your video, I haven't had the opportunity to ride our new train sets yet but soon. Thanks again for sharing. From London, Ontario, Canada.
Good lord! Y'all put some serious work in on this video! Absolutely brilliant! I'm riding it for the first time next month and can not wait now! Cheers!
Waiting for the day when they go from Jacksonville to Miami. Getting too old to drive 75 and the turnpike. When I took Amtrak it took an hour and a half to go from West Palm to Miami.
I rode Brightline from West Palm Beach to Miami and back just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. I plan to return to Florida in January to ride it from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale. Brightline is building a similar high speed railroad from outside of LAX to Las Vegas. It will hit a top speed of approximately 187 mph. It is expected to be ready for service in 2028 or thereabouts. It is being subsidized by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Brightline Florida is not the fastest passenger train in the United States. Amtrak's Acela reaches a speed of 150 mph over 49.9 miles of track between South Boston and Providence. The new Acela train sets supposedly will be able to run 160 mph over the same stretch, as well as a stretch of track south of New Brunswick, NJ. Brightline is an example of where passenger trains make sense, which is 250 to 300 mile high density corridors where the cost to expand the highways and airways is prohibitive. The United States does not need to incur the expense of building new rail lines to support trains that run as fast as those in Japan, China, etc. The optimum option is a train that beats driving, which in most instances is 110 to 125 mph. In most areas of the United States, upgrading existing rail lines would make better passenger rail service possible without the huge outlays for a totally new rail line.
I also had an awesome experience with Brightline. I missed the food in the lounge area but there were plenty of options on the train throughout the journey. and there were some tasty stuff too. i also went from Orlando to Miami in premium and it was very comfortable. security check was not hectic . I was just happy not to board a plane to tell you the truth.
This video was so refreshing and I am going to put this event on my list for exciting things to do for when we move to Florida ❤you both are darling thank you❤
I just came from Sandford on The Amtrack Auto train to Lorton VA. I had a room but the train was not luxurious. I wish the Brightline make a stop in Vero Beach or Fort Pierce so I can start taking it on premium service to Miami for date night. That was a cool idea.
Thank you for taking the time to make and post this excellent video/ride on *Brightline* what a way to travel. Sent this video to my brother who lives in *Florida* 🚅
I lived in Hallendale Beach and was responsible for the state of Florida. I transferred in 2012. I would have loved this mode of transportation. What a lovely way to get to your destination. Thanks for sharing
Orlando to Miami is great but when will they offer service in Southwest Florida? Being in a wheelchair, I love the idea of the train being ADA Compliant. Thanks for a great video!
For two it costs over $400 for a train trip that would have cost you $40 in gasoline. 80mph on I-95 and no stops. The cars would beat you there. THIS is why America doesn't have trains.
$40 in gas plus other additional cost that you can't see. I.e. wear and tear on the vehicle and your time spent driving. $200 for someone to drive me, serve me snacks, not to stop for gas or to use the bathroom is more ideal then driving if you can afford it. We need more train to lower the cost to make it more affordable for many.
@@5Ring Clearly you are wrong, since Brightline is already at capacity and is ordering more trains. There are more to cost than time and money. I will choose a twelve hours third class train ride over a six hours drive.
This train is being expanded West. There will be neutral stop with Universal Studios/Disney World offering shuttle buses, and the train will end in TAMPA, FL Airport. Brightline wants to go Coast to Coast in Florida.
I am so glad you did the walk through. I wondered about luggage. Seeing the luggage rack helped me know that if I use this train to get to the cruise ports, I would have a place to put my regular size suitcase. At 70, I am not a backpack/carry on kind of gal. Now to get a train to go from Tampa to Orlando. I-4 is a parking lot with constant multiple accidents. It is the only way to get across the state without taking the back roads. Wake up Florida. Every time they have tried to put a rapid transit system in, it has been voted down.
You haven’t ridden a train in Europe lately then. I’m not talking about the the intercity trains, specifically the intercity express trains, and the TGV in France are considerably more expensive for the Distance than bright line. And any train in Britain is extremely expensive.
Just two and a half minutes in, this is an excellent production, really good! Great use of graphics, good camera angles, nice editing and pleasant background music. ✔️👍
Brightline is not a bullet train, Japan has the bullet line. It’s a fast train for United States but it’s not a bullet train. I did ride Brightline three times and I enjoyed it.
The bullet trains in Japan are probably also on purpose built lines without vehicular crossings and/or sharing with freight trains. If the US had purpose built lines for only high speed trains, bullet trains would be more possible.

In theory it is great, in practice it is a solution looking for a problem. I live near its route and see it all the time, but I can’t see a use case where I would use it.
I wish Brightline all the success possible. We are getting one from LV to LA in the next few years. Unfortunately, I have no idea how they can possibly compete with a 737-MaxX, transporting almost the same amount of passengers from Orlando to Miami in only 1h ( yes, higher check in time, but not that much ), at a massively lower infrastructure cost ( the gate is like the departure train station, the plane is the same price as each train rolling stock, no hundreds of miles of rail or anything in between ) . I fly Frontier between LV and ONT for $49.99, anytime I want. I am so looking forward to Brightline, but without massive subsidies they cannot compete. I can even ride luxurious Flixbus ( incredibly cheaper hardware, much lower operating cost ) for a cheaper price, even thought that takes a little more time than Frontier or Brightline, but not much, maybe 30 min, at worst an hour.
Jelly! I will have to try that sometime. We don't even have a Amtrak route up here in North Florida ( Tallahassee ). After the tragic wreck of the Sunset Limited years ago ( in the swamp ) they took our route and it never came back. I'd love to go to 'Nawlins and up to Chicago w/o having to double back to Jax or something.
I guess we can call it almost a bullet train. 125 MPH is quite a bit slower than other high speed rail systems. The Acela train that runs between New York and Washington DC travel at up to 150 mph and it’s been running for almost 1/4 century (24 years) Bullet trains in other countries have exceeded 375 mph. Also a true bullet train doesn’t have RR crossings that allow cars to cross the tracks. The biggest problem is the cost. I can book a one way flight from MIA to Orlando for only $54.
Ugh! There is always that one person who has to ruin the fun because they think they know more. Can't you just watch the video, take in the enjoyment and the experience rather than, pick at everything??
@@myeyesseainblue don’t think he’s ruining the fun, just stating facts. It’s true the Amtrak Acela in the NE is faster and does hit 150 at certain points, so the Brightline is not the only highspeed railway in the US definitely the newest! @@utubewillyman how is that different than the roads being run by the government and taking just as long being stuck in traffic. why are we stuck paying for your preferred method. we need to make all roads toll roads. charge people to drive on them.
@@PeaceToAll-sl1db I think there is a healthy balance between universal taxes and consumption taxes. Folks like you who pretend to support the rights of the poor should be in favor of the poor not having to pay (or pay less) when they use roads
I lived in Japan and France. Been on both bullet trains. This was back in the 90s. It's a disgrace that we finally have a high speed train in 2024. FYI, this is no where close to the speed of a bullet train.
@@TChalla007 It works in tiny countries. It's a waste of money here.
It’s a shame we cannot have this train that travels throughout the US. As the interstates continue to become crowded what a great way to travel the US. Clean fast and economical. Great video and thank yall for taking the time to ride and share your experiences , Hopefully will ride it soon
Agreed.
This doesn't look like bullet train, check out bullet trains of Japan and China. Thats bullet train. this is bullock cart ;)
I love your sailing videos but as a Floridian I wanted to learn more about the new Brightline service. You provided a great presentation, thank you.

I just cant not wait for it to go to Tampa!
Stll waiting for the from LA to SF. I won't hold my breath
Quite a bit more expensive than European trains.
This should be the future! I don’t understand why we are late to the party. More jobs a different alternative than flying or driving. We need this all over the country or at least the big cities.
@@jdoasis20 I agree ☝️
i own chevron, if you all travel by train, how am i going to buy that $B yacht?
@@VulcanLogic But why you have to DRIVE car from LA all the way to Cucamonga to catch train to Las Vegas, ha?
It is available in the North East ! We have Acela Run by Am Trak. It runs from Washington DC to Boston. You can go from the Capitol building in DC to 34 Street in Manhattan in 3hr and 50 min. This is faster than going to and from the 2 airports in a taxi going through security and flying to NYC.
Problem is that every time someone wants to put in high speed rail Congress fights it. The Oil lobby is powerful.
@@eastpark4864 No, there's a metrolink line that goes from LA Union to Rancho Cucamonga. Hopefully its speed can be increased.
I enjoy the Brightline very much. I feel fortunate to be 15 min from the station. I must have taken it 20 times. By far the best Train in the country. It’s pricey but you get a lot for the price. 😊

are the snacks and lunch included in the price?
@@J-ZIMthey are included with premium seats. You get access to a lounge with unlimited snacks, beer, soda, and on the train you also get all the snacks and drinks included. I go sometimes two hours ahead of time and work on the laptop in the lounge

Florida is so awesome
I rode the Brightline from West Palm to Orlando in Premium class. Loved it. Was really nice with complementary Wi-Fi.
I like the child car seats for adults 😂. If the train ride makes people this happy, that alone is worth the price!
Haha it was so much fun! We didn't know train travel could be so fun!
Glad to see the beginning of rational transportation here in the states. We have a long way to go.
Agree
Except it's not rational. It's more expensive, slower, and you lose your flexibility to come and go as you please. Especially if you're running a small family up to see the park for an afternoon.
I wouldn't mind riding the train for the experience, but it's largely a luxury product, not an important improvement to the state's transportation infrastructure.
@@JonSmith-hk1bq I see you've never been in a region or country with an established HSR system. It is opposite of those things.
I remember that train! Very cool
I hear the autotrain is expensive... but i'm still looking forward to using it... it's all about the experience
@@greylady4560 Hey there! thanks for the reply. I know it's exorbitantly expensive- just for the prize of riding the rails through somebody's backyard.I kinda like trains so that's why i'd like to make this journey. I have an older vehicle and it won't be a joy driving it either.
Yeah, it's not europe. The Trains/systems here are old and rickety. To tell you the truth i might even stay awake during the entire journey so this way i might not need the Bedroom.

The two of you made traveling by train seems like so much fun.
What a fun off sail video guys. Thanks for the ride. I wish I lived close enough to take a ride.

I just came from Sandford on The Amtrack Auto train to Lorton VA. I had a room but the train was not luxurious. I wish the Brightline make a stop in Vero Beach or Fort Pierce so I can start taking it on premium service to Miami for date night. That was a cool idea.

Orlando to Miami is great but when will they offer service in Southwest Florida? Being in a wheelchair, I love the idea of the train being ADA Compliant. Thanks for a great video!

Uh oh, look at Florida. 😉 Good for y’all.
Fantastic video! Thanks, keep them coming 😊

Thank you very much for watching!
Your editorial and production are great.
Your true cost of driving is more than gasoline. Car dependency has you brainwashed into thinking that.
Actually, the train has many specials if you go to their website.
It’s not always a race

Cole “you think i missed the chocolates” 😂

At lot of information here for sure! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
I look forward to taking this trip this winter. Now they need Brightline - West to go Orlando to Naples w/stops in Tampa, Sarasota, and Ft. Myers.
Looks amazing! I didn’t know it existed
America has two bullet trains, Acela and Brightline. The term bullet does not have much to do with speed, but the shape of the front end.
Looks fun, hope I can make this journey one day! 😃
You should!
I guess we can call it almost a bullet train. 125 MPH is quite a bit slower than other high speed rail systems. The Acela train that runs between New York and Washington DC travel at up to 150 mph and it’s been running for almost 1/4 century (24 years)
Bullet trains in other countries have exceeded 375 mph.
@@myeyesseainblue
No! Facts matter.
@@myeyesseainblue don’t think he’s ruining the fun, just stating facts. It’s true the Amtrak Acela in the NE is faster and does hit 150 at certain points, so the Brightline is not the only highspeed railway in the US definitely the newest! With that being said I personally can’t wait to try Brightline and hopefully this starts a wave a highspeed railway across the country.
