***Please Read Friends*** Since posting this video I've learned these 3 particular stamp sets are unauthorized knock offs of Stampin' Up stamp sets. I spoke with a Stampin' Up representative who confirmed it's design theft. For that reason I won't be using these 3 knockoff stamps sets anymore on my channel. If you like these designs, please support Stampin Up, not Dollar Tree. And bonus, Stampin Up has beautiful coordinating dies for these sets.
The original Stampin' Up stamp sets are:
    *Honeybee Home
    *Dragonfly Garden
    *Flowing Flowers

For anyone who has difficulty getting a good stamped image with DT or SU polymer stamps....
It helps to put your paper on a flexible stamp mat before stamping. This helps get a complete image from the stamp.

I have purchased stamps from Amazon (for more than 1.25) and have discovered that I lightly sand them with an Emory board (like you mentioned), clean them, then first apply versamark, then the colored dye based ink and they work really well. Just thought I’d share that 😊

Hi Jessikate, I'm new to your channel. Loved it and all the great tips on the difference the inks make. I'm a retired SU demo as well and I can totally understand the terms you used and also the emery board trick, I've done this to my SU stamps as well Poly and regular rubber and it won't damage them as long as you do it gently and carefully. I agree about the knock offs and DT should have more integrity as they are known by but this time they made a mistake and will most likely recall them as soon as they get wind of it. When I first saw that they had new ones I rushed out to get them and traveled very far as my local DT does not carry a lot of the new items as quick as the other states. I'm in New York and traveled to New Jersey to a mega DT to actually find the new stamp sets and found only about eleven of the new ones (not the big flowered one you were disappointed with) but some others and was very disappointed with about four or five out of the eleven I was able to find. I guess with DT is't hit or miss but as you said, for a $1.25 plus tax you're still getting a good deal especially with the sentiments if only. Thank you again for all the good heads up on everything. Now that I found your channel I will tune in more often and I'm sure I will find wonderful ideas and learn more from your sharing. God bless you and thank you again, great job! :)

Often times, companies purchase designs so you will see the same designs over the years being released by different companies. I say this because I picked up some of these and realized the dragonfly image set is the exact same as an older Stampin up set I have. The size seems a little different between the two but otherwise, they are the same. I don’t know if the images were purchased or if they were copied but I think it’s important to recognize companies buy images all the time without purchasing exclusive rights to them. The same goes with metal dies. This is not to say they are not copying protected images - just trying to help everyone understand that in some cases - no images were stolen.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I need to give the other sets I got a try and see how they do.
Did you try stazon? It coats the images - I use it on make brand ones too ;)

Since my last reply to your comment I learned that these 3 sets are knockoffs of Stampin Up sets. So I won't be making more videos with them. But generally speaking for acrylic stamps, sticky inks like VersaFine work well. Like pigment inks they are able to better grip the surface of the stamp. I've tried it with other acrylic stamps in the past and heat embossing has worked well with them.

Hi, (I hope this isn't a dumb question!) I hope you can help me. I understand that pigment ink just looks better, more depth, richer and more vibrant, but honestly, in a normal world, how long do these things take to dry? I bought some craft smart inks from Michaels because I'm just learning how to do this, but it's been 2 days and my images still smear. Is this normal? I went to Joann's, there were a couple of sets of Momento dye inks on sale so I bought them and they dry within minutes. The pigments looks great, but they are trying my patience! Am I supposed to put something on them to make them dry?

    • @JessikateCreates
      @JessikateCreates  ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's a great question. I have a couple of pigment inks, but I generally prefer dye inks. Like you said, pigment inks take longer to dry and I can get impatient. For most situations, dye inks work just as well as pigment inks. If you do use pigment inks, you can use a heat gun to heat set the inks to help them dry faster. Sorry it took me so long to respond! Thanks for being so patient! 💛

I was interested in getting a few stamps for the purpose of coloring them using watercolors. I learned that to use with watercolor paints you need to use pigment based inks. Or the image can run.
However if you want to color using alcohol markers. You should use dye based ink. Its so complicated

I’m going to throw this out here. Yes, it’s a Stampin Up dupe. But it wasn’t designed in a vacuum. Dragonflies became popular as a fashion statement back around 1999. It was popular in jewelry and home fashion (pillows, fabric, artwork, etc.) I’ve googled pics of dragonflies and saw numerous with the vein details shown in this stamp. So it was most likely copied from pics that had been out there a long time. Designers often piggyback on trends that are already popular. The sentiments and fonts should have been changed though. I don’t know many ppl that can afford Stampin Up stamp sets that most likely they will get tired of after a few cards. Dollar Tree makes crafting affordable for regular people.

Cheaper silicone stamps need to be conditioned a lot more than quality photopolymer clear stamps. You can take off the factory coating by stamping with ink, but a lot of people buff the stamp with an eraser or a nail file buffer. Some folks lightly use a nail file, but be careful. Others wash the stamp with stamp cleaner then buff/dry them with a micro cloth. I’ve used all 3 methods and they usually help a lot.

So no one can make another dragonfly stamp? No one can make one that says “Happy Birthday?” I have stamps from a bunch of companies! And I loved these stamps!

@@jenniferd264 Anybody can do a dragonfly or Happy Birthday stamp- the general ideas are public domain. It's the specific look of these stamps- ie the veining in the dragonfly wings, the specific fonts, and the overall concept of each set - that are Stampin Up's intellectual property and which Dollar Tree (or its supplier) stole.

Look at all those stamps you can use well for under $5.00 (even if you don’t plan to use all of the stamps)

Thats what I though too. But, unfortunately, I recently learned these are knock offs of Stampin Up designs. You can try reaching out to an SU demonstrator to get the original sets.

Yes. Unfortunately it wasn't until a few days after posting the video I learned they were Stampin' Up knock offs. That's when I put a pinned comment on the video and updated the description box with details about the name of the Stampin Up stamp sets. It's also why I don't use these stamp sets. I know all the DTs in my area recalled almost as soon as they put them out.

I have purchased some of Dollar Tree stamps….they’re ok, but as you say, they’re cheap acrylic and the imaging is not very crisp. While I agree that DT shouldn’t be copying anyone’s stamps….there is a gray area here. Common shapes and objects aren’t copyright protected. If a design is especially stylized, then there may be an infringement.
Update: I looked it up: Stampin’ Up is suing DT for copyright infringement. See my 2 nd comment if interested. Wow. 😮

All clear stamps should be cleaned before you try to stamp with them. They have a residue that keeps the ink from giving a good impression.

Yes, new stamps definitely work best after being used a bit or conditioned. Tfw!!

How many different ways can you draw a dragonfly??? Seriously?? How many?
Stampin up trying to say its copyright protected is absolutely ridiculous.

💛Thank you, glad you enjoyed! Yes, unfortunately, after posting the video I learned they were all Stampin' Up knockoffs. I added a pinned comment to the video and updated the video description to let folks know the names of the original SU sets and encourage them to reach out to an SU demonstrator. I also spoke with a SU representative and my local DT store has since pulled the SU knockoff stamp sets.

Just rubbing your fingers over the stamp works too. Or you may use an eraser. New stamps have an oil on them-even the pricy ones!!

Informative, but too much repeating of the same thing.. like the repeated don't file on your good stamps..
