  • The "Cheek Pistol" concept has become quite an interesting thing thanks to videos by @Demonstrated Concepts LLC and @Forgotten Weapons
    I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring to design some accessories in order to make it easier and safer to use. And wouldn't you know it, the concept seems to work quite well!

    Kel Tec is just eccentric enough they might want to run with the concept as an oem option.

    • @Arcahnslight
      @Arcahnslight 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Absolutely. I wish they'd embrace putting OEM brace options on their firearms, though. The CP33 and P50 are both pistols BEGGING for an OEM brace option, such as a rear mounted pic option for side folders. They've stated they lean on their fans to produce the options for braces/stocks should someone wana Form 1 the gun, but damn it sucks waiting for months while a third party prototypes something that usually ends up about 90% useable.

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      One of the big issues with that is that the CP33 and presumably the P50 (I haven't checked the weight/length figures on that one) would both be banned outright from having a brace under the proposed brace rule change, so they don't want to spend time and money developing an accessory in-house that will likely be banned in the coming weeks when the rule change takes effect.

    • @Arcahnslight
      @Arcahnslight 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@booliganshootingsports I really don't see the brace ban ever happening. It's even less popular than the bump stock ban, and even that's looking like it could be overturned. Hopefully attitudes change for manufacturers in the coming months as the legislation plays out. Additionally, a simple pic rail would suffice for those of us who want to pursue a Form 1 and sbr them.

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@Arcahnslight There's literally zero indication that it's not going into effect before the end of the year. It'll be trimmed down from the initial proposal, sure, but I'd but hard money down right now on it taking effect more or less as written. Popularity doesn't matter, there were a lot of comments on it, sure, but at least half of those were bot comments from Everytown and Mothers Demand supporting it. It's not a popularity vote, they're going to put SOMETHING into effect, which is obviously super unfortunate, but the reality of that rule change process.

    • @cymond
      @cymond 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@booliganshootingsports Agreed, a brace ban of some kind IS coming.
      However, KelTec didn't know that when they released the CP-33 and P50. They really, really should have made these pistols more friendly for braces and stocks. They could have done it for a very small additional cost compared to relying on the aftermarket.
      Likewise, factory threaded models are slightly more expensive than non-threaded versions, but significantly cheaper than sending a barrel to a gunsmith. The S&H to a gunsmith usually costs as much as the upcharge for a factory threaded barrel.

    Might be worth extending a bit over/behind the ejection port to help minimize the amount of gas you get in the face after slapping on a suppressor. I like the little sling loop at the back, but now you've got me wondering how well one of Magpul's QD sling mount kits epoxied into a little pocket at the back would work.

    Today I installed all the parts I bought for my CP-33. The cheek riser, hand stop. a 45 offset with a ghost viper tactical red/green dot sight. And a quick detach sling and rail covers. This offset gives me a better cheek weld. I also installed a GAU muzzle brake. Can't wait to take it to the range. It rides well and is well balanced in hand, and points well too.

    Wow! I've been thinking about something similar since I saw that Forgotten Weapons video. What if you made a kind of M16 style 'handle' between the hand stop and the optics mount? Would make retention even stronger in a CQB setting. You could also possibly do back-up sights through the verticals? Very nicely done. Hope you'll keep developing this here.

    Took my CP33 to the range 2 weeks ago. Shot 275 rnds through it. First 10 to sight in the red dot. The rest made 1/2" raggit holes at 15 yards. The time I was at the range, I had a few people ask about my pistol. Even the range guys looked it over. With this setup I shot a 3/4" offhand, 25 rnds in 30 seconds. Range rules. Not to bad for an old man of 65. This set-up would work for disabled vets wanting to hunt or shot targets.

    Two questions:
    1. How's the reliability been on your CP33? I love the concept but hear very mixed things about KelTec's quality control.
    2. Do you think you could do something similar for a 9mm, perhaps something like an extended Six Second Mount for a Glock that could engage the beavertail? The only factory pistol like this in 9mm is the B&T TP9 and I don't have 2 grand to spare.

In some of Rhett’s other videos he talks about chasing terminal performance vs economics and how much more you can practice with a 22lr. • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, you could, but this is custom fit for this specific gun. The reason why the rear portion is extended is so that it's actually comfortable to shoot without your face crammed up against the sight/frame/etc. It's also to allow for a brass deflector on my V2 file which I released for left handed shooting. And it doesn't inhibit charging at all compared to the factory gun.

    Stocks and braces make cheek pistol concept stupid outside of some need for it to be more compact without side folding stocks or braces. Just this guy’s opinion

      Sure, but tax stamps and brace regulations mean alternative options should be created.

    I wonder how ATF will try to quash this? Classify your cheeks as "assault cheeks"?

      Will have a hard time trying to make this a sbr violation based on the text of the statute

    Points I want to make.
    1. You are not 2 12 year olds with hair glued to your face. Why? You are not a muscle bound roid ridden fake pale skinned hulk. You are a normal looking, dad bod, normie. Be the normal looking dad.
    2. I am listening for the context. Not who you claim to be. My first impression is that the weapon is trying to be respectful of the ATF. Which is bullshit. The community seams like they are anti that.
    3.Regardless of those two points. Your ideas are well thought out. I really feel that you have something, even if it is so outside of the box.
    This is the only post you will see from me.

      No one respects the atf, jus dont want to be sent to prison. But this cheek pistol concept js NOT a work around regarding the nfa, it is a wholly different method that is superior to shouldering the weapon in some contexts

      It’s definitely a functional round in many situations. Just not ideal.
