Agreed! I felt like something different came in but I wasn’t sure cause it’s been so long since I’ve heard it i was actually thinking “I don’t remember this” but didn’t consider he added to it 😂
It has been warmer than normal in Calgary as well (although you can't tell that from this video - he filmed this during one of our few cold snaps lol). Ren killed this track. Really enjoyed your reaction 💜💜
Cliff Beats commented the same as you wtih the warm weather but his was in Chicago. Yes, I too love the simple but clever lyrics and the underlying NAS beat with some Ren flair added in. Frankly, this is yet another genius track from REN. Wonderful reaction as always, Duane.
Parents are born and raised on Long Island. I was raised in nearby NE Pennsylvania. Can confirm. SMD is a such "a thing" that women will also say it as a way to express... negative feelings. 😂👍
Yeah I’m in NY and I will take it too as I’m always cold… love this Ren he just really makes it all relatable bringing it forward and back at the drop of a bar… thanks Duane…I have yet to find one Ren, that I don’t honestly fw… flowers should be given to the living for sure… Ren’s tongue is always in our cheeks lol … Thanks Duane 🙂
Thank you Duane for a great reaction, it's so nice to see a reactor who knows and respects a rapper like Nas, and his influence on Hip-hop culture. You were soooo right too, what you said in the beginning about it not always being about complicated bars and schemes, I'm approaching old head status, been into Hip-hop since Run DMC and the Beasties, and there's something about true Hip-hop that's very hard to put a finger on. It's partly the flow, it's partly the swagger, partly the beat itself, and then I think just an intangible, regardless, Ren has it, and did right by this classis track!! Oh yeah, the very last line "Sleep is the cousin of death", was one last shout out to Nas, as it's a line off "NY State of Mind", also on illmatic. Again, great reaction my man!! ✌💚
Here in Minnesota we got probably less than 8ft the entire winter. Honestly probably less than that. We have been having temperatures that average 20° higher than our historical average the entire winter. It's wild.
Ren does build hidden complex meanings. Watched an older rapper pick out a dozen things no one noticed from old hiphop such as when Nas got started as a kid he went by waviest guy or something. He almost always means whatever is in his music or videos.
Fun fact: In Greek mythology, sleep was the cousin of death. Halftime by Nas was the song that changed Eminem's approach on rhyme schemes and flows that made him Godzilla today. The pirate scheme was timely dropped on Pi Day March 14th 2024 Cheers
Love your reactions. This track is layers upon layers. It's insane. Every bar is a double or triple. He uses references from 9 and counting of his own tracks. One Easter Egg. A lyric on this track is Pi. Pi has the value of 3.14 guess what today's date is?
Ren is going to be in NY later this year, he said in the chat for this one. I think for the Webby collab. Would be awesome if he did some busking out there. Then he is off to LA for a while.
Not this mild, I shoveled once and honestly didn’t even have to, last year I shoveled a few times, and over the last couple years we had cold February/March, I remember last year thinking it didn’t warm up until closer to May, we also had within the last few years a couple crazy snowfalls one being 4 feet or so, I don’t live in NYC though, I’m upstate I’ve never experienced 60 degree weather in February, and looking those days up historically it had never been nearly that warm
I love the movie Zebra Head, I haven't seen it in a long time. I think I recorded it onto a VHS, I don't have a player anymore. I enjoyed your reaction. Congrats on your new desk.
It’s crazy, cause some years people argue back an forth because it’s not that much different, but this year it seems everyone agrees it was significantly warmer
As I understand Rap unlike most common music, it's disrespectful to use another rappers lyric's/flow in tribute to them, In mainstream music covering another artist's song is so common, and it's not really important if you are paying tribute by making the song your own or trying to remake the original in the exact same way... I think Ren taking the beat and putting his own twist on it is the closest you'll ever get to a "cover" version of a Rap track.
Nobody catching the Big L shout out what's rap without Ren china without rice is shout out to Big L ren makes it his own but Big L is a always forgotten about top tier lyricist
If you just want some feedback you can DM me, but this channel is mainly what I see requests for in larger numbers so I know I’m giving my viewers something they want to click on
the weather is normal, people want it always top be average but average is composed of extremes, so there will be cold weather warm weather and all in all it is normal
Ren GILLmatic
Great comment! Lol
🤣 🤣 I like it
👌
Yes brother!
That added guitar is sick.
Agreed! I felt like something different came in but I wasn’t sure cause it’s been so long since I’ve heard it i was actually thinking “I don’t remember this” but didn’t consider he added to it 😂
Ive lived in New England for 28 years and yeah.. the weather is inconsistent af 😂. Probably 6 years back. We had a major snow storm in April.

I was wondering where it was recorded thank you for sharing that 🙏🏽

Cliff knows! Haha appreciate you homie

Ren destroyed that beat!! Straight 🔥 🔥 🔥
💯

“That’s something that we do on a regular basis…” 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Yep. “Teaching over beats” as he said in The Hunger. Multiple research needed, for me, in these lyrics. Great reaction. Enjoyed it. Thanks ❤
Thank you 🙏🏽
You should change up the sequence from SMD to SMK (slob my knob) once in a while 😅
Great reaction homie, and nice new desk
😂
Love spending time with you Duane! Add Ren and Nas to the mix and it's a great day! 🖤
The boi was so smooth bro, love that reaction Duane 👌😉👍🔥🇬🇧
Thank you!
"My new desk..." Most middle class response ever, bro...😂
Love your reactions. This track is layers upon layers. It's insane. Every bar is a double or triple. He uses references from 9 and counting of his own tracks. One Easter Egg. A lyric on this track is Pi. Pi has the value of 3.14 guess what today's date is?
Yeah that’s a cool bar I didn’t even catch that haha

Then he is off to LA for a while.
great reaction as always. Much 🫶 from a Bronx girl.🙂
I live in Chicago. My birthday was on March 4th and it’s usually rainy and cold. This year we had a high temp of 70 degrees. It was absolutely crazy.
Yeah it definitely isn’t normal lol happy late birthday homie!
@@DuaneReacts thanks!
Had to see your reaction bc i know you're f4om NY so i figured you would appreciate it a lot. I wasn't disappointed
Yeah extremely happy he decided to do this 🙌🏽
This is the 3rd year in a row with a mild winter in NYC. Almost no snow either.
Not this mild, I shoveled once and honestly didn’t even have to, last year I shoveled a few times, and over the last couple years we had cold February/March, I remember last year thinking it didn’t warm up until closer to May, we also had within the last few years a couple crazy snowfalls one being 4 feet or so, I don’t live in NYC though, I’m upstate

@@DuaneReactsAh, ok. I live in NYC and we haven't shoveled once. Just a few dusting days.
I love the movie Zebra Head, I haven't seen it in a long time. I think I recorded it onto a VHS, I don't have a player anymore. I enjoyed your reaction.
Congrats on your new desk.
Thank you!

Warmest winter here in the midwest also!!!!!
I knew I wasn’t crazy, some people try to downplay it and make me think I’m overthinking it but I know it’s a big difference
Fucking fire 🔥
February 2024 was globally the warmest February on record. Something's definitely up. About time we did something about it, no?

It’s crazy, cause some years people argue back an forth because it’s not that much different, but this year it seems everyone agrees it was significantly warmer

😊
I'm with you on It Was Written.. However, Nas was what 17 when he wrote Halftime. And the whole Illmatic album was 49 minutes.

What Ren said is actually the word for a pile of sticks.
Day 1 of asking you react to my rap!
