You are one of the Narrowboat OG's! Love your stuff. I'm going to be buying my first boat once I've completed on the sale of my flat (about 6 or so weeks) I'll be a CCing solo boater and I cannot wait despite some naysayers telling me I'm too old! (I'm 54 for heavens sake, not dead! And pretty fit and healthy despite clearly being doddery!😆) Your videos have provided inspiration, reality checks and invaluable knowledge so a huge thank you from me. Good luck with your next boat and your continued travels on our beautiful waterways. Tracy ☺️
Yes Dan when I bought my floating home I just trusted the seller who was a reputable boat yard owner tbh I knew nothing then so floated about in total uncertainty for 7 years till I had it lifted out shop blasted and 2 packed even underneath and luckily being an old boat 30 years plus British steel was in its hey day and glad to say i was very lucky and my hull had hardly a blemish the base plate was better condition than the roof I'm very very lucky but in could tell you a few stories where people wasn't as lucky as me ...cheers Dan a very good point you have raised
That’s great news! I think the incredible difference in quality of steel used to make boats is something that would shock a lot of people! It was only when my boat surveyed friend told me about some of his stories of modern boats that I was educated! How easily I could have looked at newer boats than I’ve bought and assumed it was more likely to have a better hull!
I’m not 100% I am thinking maybe the next boat will be a small one again before going big in the future and keeping the smaller boat. In hindsight I would have never let Tilly go!
@@SortOfInteresting That's interesting. I recall you felt Abel was a huge upgrade because of the size. Tilly will always fill a soft spot. What made you change your mind? Is it more about costs?
Ahhh sorry, I meant keep Tilly and also have a bigger boat! In the end times of living on Tilly I was halfway to deciding to get a second small boat and having two at the same time!
I didn’t get a survey done it was n empty shell so I could see everything it had to hide. I only paid £2000 for her though. She’s 26ft Narrowboat. First thing I did after purchase was empty it completely waited a few days to see if there was any small leaks. She was totally watertight. She’s 90% fitted out and I’m only 5k in .. I got a bargain

Fantastic! Good luck with everything and enjoy every moment!
Good luck with the purchase of a boat. I did it 3 years ago and I have never looked back
@@SortOfInteresting thank you!! 😊
@@TrevsTravelsByNarrowboat thanks Trev. I've just been checking out your channel and hit subscribe! All the best lovely. 👍
54 is a spring chicken! Our oldest active boater at our club is 89 this year.
Dan you are a sweetheart. I love your gentle approach to your life. Go gently and well. x
I walked that path 2 summers ago, the stinging nettles were 5 feet high. I walked from the small stone bridge just upstream to the aqueduct.
Yes, I love that bridge. Since the road on the other side of Cefn Mawr collapsed, it has become a staple of my places I visit and drive!
@@SortOfInteresting A very beautiful bridge

good vid thanks lee
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
What sort of upgrades are you looking for with the new boat?

@@SortOfInteresting For you and your girlfriend? Or keeping them at different locations perhaps? Sounds like an interesting development.

That is brilliant! I'm not sure what my next boat is going to be like, but a 26 footer costing that little would be a fantastic stopgap and project!
Tilly was so tiny that you could just lift her out the water with one hand while someone else reads the hull thickness. :P
Haha!
Hull survey is VERY important! Just like avoiding overplating. It can hide a multitude of nasties!
I certainly agree, like I say I wouldn't buy a more expensive boat without one, but I've been lucky to have a good decade without one at the moment!
👍
Thanks for watching as always!
