The point of this video is to show the difference between the two cars in real world circumstances. We all know the M3 is faster, that’s pretty obvious, but by how much.

335d xdrive is still a quick car just not M3 quick.

Apparently a remap changes everything but you could also remap the M3.

I have a remapped E90 stage 2 335d and it sticks at the side of my friends M4 competition pack and he has a jb4 too. I have 390bhp 625lbs of torque and xhp stage 3 gearbox remap which cuts shift times in half.
A remap on the f30 would make a massive difference.
A JB4 F80 M3 / F82 M4 would have around 550bhp, 500lb ft. You might have a chance from standstill, but from a roll you'd be left standing.
Ive got a 335d xdrive and heard other owners compare the 2. Theres no comparison. M cars rule the roost. It would become more apparent with a few bends and roundabouts thrown in the mix. 335d still awesome though.

Do the race from 50mph and above. S3 loe every other hot hatch is only good up to 100. In the real world on a motorway 335d chews it up for fun. Ive toyed about with s3 and rs3 and golf r on motorway

335d X drive will beat the S3, on paper anyway, but it will be close!
£500 remap would sort out the 335

Piovo from what I remember I think I was trying to infer that a map for the diesel would sort out the m3.

You'd need about 440bhp to beat the M3 given the X-drive drivetrain losses. I doubt you'll get that from a £500 remap.
You need to experiment with those on the Autobhan. My 335d xdrive has kickdown at 130mph, the back end drops a kick in the back and whoosh it cracks on to 150mph+, I would say you would need something really expensive to beat it above 100mph. Very tempted to video it next time. Just for the record, when the back end steps out on a 335d xdrive, keep your foot down because the front end steps in and drags its arse out of trouble.
Should of done a drag race from 0 to see the difference & see how long will it take for the m3 to catch up .

Had an m3 but the daily running cost was just huge, I eventually traded it in for a 335d XDrive and from personal experience in the real world the 335d is the better car.

@@BH-tf5zz that’s fair it’s probably just me personally I always prefer the feel of a petrol if it’s for pure driving pleasure whereas if you’re a taxi driver you would be safer with a diesel

@@BH-tf5zz a 2010 335i e90 and yes that’s a lot of power but you can’t deny that a diesel kinda gets all its power in one punch it’s not as free reving as a petrol. For me if money isn’t a consideration the petrol version will always be better from a driving stand point IMO

Great comparison in Manual. Kick down races are not a good idea when comparing two clutches and a torque converter.
With a Stage 1 map on the 335d it will obliterate a stock M3.
Obviously a tuned M3 is a no brainer too.

Agreed lads. The 335d is a great car for the money. Also, don't forget the DSG box will kick up quicker.
The F80 engine is a monster.
Most people drive the F8X is manual mode to avoid harsh kickdowns which can spun the crank hub. The DCT box is the thing I like least about my M4. I would prefer the ZF8 from my 330d
A 0-60 standing start would have been interesting the 335d xdrive is rapid from a standing start
Off the line it's the quickest thing I've ever driven and if you didn't tell your passengers that you were going to floor it off the lights they would most certainly get a bit of whiplash
Some of the comments on here are hilarious. The 335d is an amazing car and probably the best diesel you can buy but even with a remap it’ll never come close to a M car. I’ve had a 330d and now a M3 comp pack and the difference in cars is staggering. Straight line pull is one thing, driving experience is another. Both amazing cars, but great at different things. Anyone who thinks a 335d can be better then a M car clearly hasn’t driven one.
I’ve always tried to explain this, but it falls on deaf ears a lot of the time. The driving experience of a full M car is much more than just straight line.
Yh ur right to an extent, but wat you need to memba is this in the REAL world a 335d is all round a quicker and better car, because its all weather, snow, rain, dry, and u have confidence knowing its four wheel drive. M3 u trying going in and out of traffic and back end kicks out. And in snows its conpletly useless and in rain it would struggle to keep up wid a four wheel drive. So yes an m3 is a better car on paper but in the REAL world 335d is better
eatdahl if you think 4 wheel drive adds to driving experience you clearly don’t understand driving. Not everything is about straight line. The fun of driving a M3 is the ability to learn to control it. It’s the sound, it’s the way it can take a corner and it’s the way it looks like an absolute animal. You buy a 335d if you do a lot of motorway miles and want something effortless for those journeys. You buy a M3 to enjoy the journey. Your right, the M3 is useless in the snow and struggles to put power down in the rain, but on those sunny days it’ll put a smile on ur face no other 3 series can dream of, and it all becomes worth it. If you’ve driven and owned the cars you’d understand. I’ve had a S3, 330d and a M3, and the M3 is on another planet to them. Remap all you want, they don’t come close to what the car offers.
I understand what ur saying, and yes the m3 is a great car, but realistically having a rear wheel drive car and drifting around, and acting like its a driving experience is a load of bollocks, because all your doing is fucking up the car and its tyres and the sound the m3 f80 makes is all fake, its pumped through the speakers. M3 is a great car yes, but in the real world it cant touch a 335d, if you go online theres a review about m3 vs d3 and they more or less identical. So really a mapped 335d is only gna be better bcz itl have 40bhp more than the d3
eatdahl bang an M performance exhaust on a M3 and remap it. It really is unbelievable. From your comments it doesn’t sound like you’ve driven or owned either car, if you did you’d understand what I’m saying. A diesel isn’t a true performance car, it runs out of puff; doesn’t have the revs and sounds true or awful. It’s an amazing mileage muncher. But let’s agree to disagree, if I do the mileage again I’ll be back in a 3 litre diesel. Until then a M3 will continue to put a smile on my face that no diesel ever could.

On kickdown 335d gearbox does take probs a sec to switch to the right gear (which I think is normal). Best is to use paddles to shift to lower gear which gets you to peak torque (probs at 3.5k RPM??) And then floor it and let the auto take over again for the most reliable gear shifts. Don't keep it in manual .
Peak torque in a 335d is 1500-2500rpm.

The whole point of mapping *any* car is more power you fucking halfwit. It literally makes no sense to race a modified car against a stock car unless you're specifically testing the impact of the map.

That would be interesting. Hard to tell from the vid if the 335d runs out of revs before the M3 as well. Not just diesel v petrol also 7sp DCT v 8sp auto.
Theres already a race in youtube of a mapped 335d destroying an m3 and the only thing the 335d has is a stamdard map and still on runflats.
Check out Ty Devine's (tydevinenew) insta account his F30 335d xdrive is pushing out 400bhp and runs a 11 second quarter mile. Apparently he eats M3's / M4's for breakfast :-) :-) :-)

The 335d would be the same performance as most hyper hatches but against an M3 it's going to be slower. The M3 has far more power. S3/Golf R/M140i etc would be merely driver difference.
One other thing you kept calling it a 325d and you referred to the M3 as an M2 towards the end lol :-) Either way good vid mate.
Ofcourse, it’s more of a test of ‘how much slower’ rather than ‘is it faster’.
And regarding pronunciation, I’m definitely saying 335d and M3, I know my car models lol 👍🏼 Whether it sounds like a 2 is a different matter 😂

Stage 1 on the 335d 370HP 730NM. Fuel Consum is half to the M3. 335d is the better Car.

I believe I've got a quick one. I've looked pretty hard online, forums and facebook groups and I've yet to see a faster one based on official 1/4 mile timeslips or verified vbox data.
It's only very lightly tuned. Nothing more than an intercooler and an ecu-calibration. The ecu-calibration is new and has been recently developed. It's around 400 bhp and 530 ft-lbs.
It's doing 0-60 consistently in 3.6-3.7s (vbox verified) and I've not been to the strip with the new intercooler and new map but the vbox is suggesting 11.9 @ 117. Not bad for a D!

Well like you guys said the M3 is really quick, 335D is just quick lol.Real world I prefer the diesel tbh, I have the 330D xdrive with stage 1 tune and it's plenty for me plus the mpg is good if you do longer trips.
I have an M4 and a 330d stage 1 and the 330d is as quick in the real world and much easier to drive.

Rematch - tune the 335d to 420hp/600+ftlbs and map the M3 and go from a dig, 20, 40, 60. See who pulls ahead the most. That’s what we all want to know really! Good video though

I have a m140i and i raced against the 535d wish is the same engine as 335, i take it 0-100 easy and after 100 the diesel becomes slow
DSC fully off will make them even quicker, hold the dsc button for a while until it switches off

Good Vid! 335d is a great sleeper. One thing to note is that the xdrive sits higher than the standard set up which makes it look awkward imo even on 19"s

That’s because it’s on SE springs not M-Sport. 👍🏼 The 3 series with XDrive are all on SE springs. Softer ride and noticeably higher. I know this because I own an F30 335d 👍🏼

I would take the M3 out of those, prefer the looks to the M4 + practicality. And drives way better than 2016 PFL RS3. Tuning capabilities are good on both M3/RS3

Remapped 335d would murder an m3 in a standing drag race. If you go on youtube theres an m3 vs a d3 and thats inly 340bhp and m3 just wins. 335d remapped is 380bhp+ and four wheel drive. M3 doesnt have a hope in hell

On paper only, 0-60 times mean bugger all. Check the 30-100 times! 240 leaves the 335d standing!
from a launch the 335d would have it. Think they have the same 1/4 mile time. Both sub 13s. On a roll the M140i is faster. In rain and cold weather the 335d is a faster road car. I owned the 1 series and now have a 435d. The 435d is way better in the corners. More grip and no body roll.

Nice video , having just purchased a 435d coupe and never tried it in manual yet ' does it have to be sport or sport+ to manually change gear using the paddle shifts and what are the advantages of doing so.
I think a remapped 335d will worry the m3. Celtic tuning say they can get 400bhp and 800nm of torque from a stage one remap

Main problem with the early 335d x drive M sport was the awful wooly steering. How could BMW have given such a powerful car such loose steering?
I found the post 2018 car better but it still didn't have the precision of my old Vauxhall Insignia SRI.

The purpose of the video is all about the torque, no stock 335d is leaving an F80 M3. Now if we were talking E92 M3 then potentially yes, but F80 not a chance, the torque gap isn’t as big anymore since the M3 went turbocharged.
I really doubt that. I have a FBO e92 m3 and I keep up with full bolt on 5.0 mustangs and 2016 camaro Ss which have a huge torque advantage and a bit of horsepower advantage.

Hamza remap the X, put on some Eibach Pros, Pilot Sport 4s throw in a few turns and whilst the M3 is doing u turns the X will be powering out of corners, get an M to do a skandi flick X is X. Ask Malcolm X; X is for the unknown, M don't stand a chance...
