I removed the factory stereo from my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid, and replaced it with an eBay-purchased OUKU brand Android Stereo Head Unit.
This is a video outlining what you'll need, and the steps to remove the factory stereo - and replace it with a new aftermarket unit - in the second (2nd) generation Ford Escape Hybrid.
I used an aftermarket trim package, and wiring harness.
All products were purchased from eBay.

ARRIVED NOT AS ADVERTISED, was version 4.2 not 4.4. Would not recommended this seller. Buy your stereo from another seller. (I just finished a review, check my channel for it - it's not great - I would spend more and get a quad core system)

spent like an hour looking for a video like this, thanks
Eddie Pog SAME!!
Thanks. This is the only video that I could actually look to see what wiring harness you have. That's the one I needed.
GREAT VIDEO OF HOW TO OPEN THE PANELS AND GET TO THE RADIO AND STUFF BEHIND IT. ITS LIKE PUTTING A 3D PUZZLE TOGETHER. SAVES YOU FROM HAVING TO BREAK IT APART.
Thank you for posting this. Most of it was irrelevant for my project, but it showed me how to get the bottom panel out without causing irreparable damage, and for that I am grateful.
Thanks for this video 😅 I can start changing my 2009 escape radio now😂
Thanks for the helpful video. So glad to see people unafraid of doing things they never have before. it gets easier every time you do it. its not that hard but doing it yourself gives you the ability to learn and make any future repair or replacements much easier. Glad you tackled this yourself. Much better than taking to stereo install shop.
sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know a method to get back into an instagram account??
I was stupid forgot the login password. I love any tips you can offer me.
@Cayson Rowan Instablaster ;)
@Christian Luka i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Christian Luka it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you really help me out :D
@Cayson Rowan no problem =)
AWESSOME!! At last I found how does it work. Now I am not scared to do same with my truck! Thank you very much!
Also the stereo should've been mounted to the dash kit instead of the metal bracket. I think that's why u had a bit of trouble. But love the video man. This is how we learn it really isn't hard when u start learning. And u save alot of money installing yourself. Good job buddy.
Also "alot" is spelt a lot. It's two words.
I believe you can slide the head back a bit more. I did the install on a few Escapes and although I can't really see the details on your video, the radio chassis (with the new kit installed) screws to the original holes in the dash where the old unit was removed, not bolted to the front of the kit's fascia. You can then loosen the bolts going into the side of the head unit and slide it back to the desired location. It's not supposed to just 'rest" against the dash and let the trimplate hold it in. I hope this helps. Also, a resistor bridged into the factory radio harness will bring (most of) the information on the upper display back after an aftermarket installation.
Before removing battery terminal, place shifter in low gear, set parking brake and turn off switch. This will give you more room to move out lower panel and radio chassis.
@rafael Perez Turn ON your ignition switch, move shifter to low gear, turn ignition OFF.

Good video. Pretty ballsy of you to tackle this job since you say you've never done this before. I commend you for a great job on the install.
Thanks!!
Cool video. I have the hybrid with and w/o the radio with emode data. The only thing keeping me from upgrading ia loosing the infotament for the E-mode.
Almost 6 years ago that I drove a 2009 Ford Escape in red with tan interior as a loaner car for a little bit over a week. It had snowed during that week that I went accidentally have it for 9 days. They didn’t charged me on those 2 days. When I first got it and it was almost empty on gas. When I returned it. It had about 3/4 of gas in it.
Love your video. Even I had install few after market stereos in few different cars but it is always new thing that I could learn. Also you should try to get color LED lights and hook them up from your cigarette lighter and put them behind you air vents. The air vents will glow at night every time you car running. Just my 2 cents, lol. Thank you for sharing your video.
Robbie, this is a fantastic presentation. Great. It was very beneficial.
F.R.O.L.R! Michael, this is a fantastical comment!💩
@@jeffmatthews3665 It brought back all the memories we were taught at the university in North London in the early sixties during our telecommunications classes. Triodes, Pentodes, mModulatore and Demodulators. And the Admiralty handbooks with clear diagrams printed on glossy paper bound in hardback from second-hand bookshops on Tottenham Court Road.. Take care.
Great video on your old radio there are 2 metal support brackets you can take off to support your new radio that u just installed just use mount bolts from old original radio

Hi. I have a hybrid escape 2008 with the OEM stereo. Is there a way to change to an aftermarket and keep the battery information for the hybrid?
Thanks for this.
Great camera work!
Im pretty sure you were supposed to screw the radio in by using the 4 black screws that the you can see in video. Those are meant to hold the original double din ford navigation system and they are not holding anything when you dont have that. Im sure youre radio wont move or anything but thats why the mount seemed so weird.
Do you need to disconnect negative battery cable to swap out the info display panel?
Thank you Mr. Robbie Doo . Your video has help me a lot to get the idea how to replace my 2009 Escape stereo. Thanks again.
I am just starting looking into changing my stereo I am glad that you made this video thank you. I was going to just buy a stereo from Wal-Mart to put in I'll have to some more planning I guess. thanks again for the very informative video.
Happy to help!
Very informative video. I just wanted to point out one thing. I’m sure you don’t realize you’re doing it. I don’t mean to be rude and I’m saying this in a very nice way. I hope it doesn’t make you angry. Do you realize that you say “UH” in the middle of practically every sentence. I used to do the same thing myself. I too didn’t realize I was doing it until my father pointed it out. I actually had to concentrate very hard not to say it. I am buying a 2008 Ford escape so thank you so much for helping me with installing an aftermarket stereo. Until your video I thought it could not be done as again I thought the heating control unit and the original radio were integrated Into one unit. .
Okay then ,thank you once again. I really enjoyed the video. Great job. Again, please take my pointing the “UH” not in a harsh way as I meant it in a kind, constructive way. God bless you and the best to your and yours for a Bright and successful future.
Thank you. And yes, I noticed that 'Uh' thing awhile back and have been working on it!
I’m fine with the stock radio I just needed this video to take the radio out for subs, and no I don’t listen to the radio I have a auxiliary thing that goes into the cigarette lighter but thank you for this, and for those buttons on the lower piece I have the highest trim package and there’s only one that is used it’s a traction control button the rest aren’t used unless you put something there
And also my radio is gloss black
Good choice radio. Maches the iceblue lights of the gauges.
Good vídeo ...nobody uploaded video like this ...👍👍👍👍👍
+Cristian Robles
Thanks!
My only concern with putting an aftermarket stereo in my 2011 Escape is that I would lose access to the top screen. The SYNC screen would become redundant with the aftermarket installation, but I like the idea of having the screen still functional. Would you have a place I can look to work towards the top screen remaining useful? Please let me know if you see this, thanks!
Just bought 2008 mercury mariner - pioneer mixtrax already installed - any idea on how to get the factory installed display above the vents to not say dvd and at least show temp or something else?
Excellent video and thanks for the upload. However at 11:30 you stated you were using a 7mm socket and you could probably get away with a wrench or some pliers...... never use pliers on nuts or bolts...., ever. That's the fastest way to strip a head...... and nobody wants a stripped head. 😀
I've been waiting for an upload like this. Thanks!
Were du you conect tha green purple and white and red and white. Extra wires?
If you unplug all the radio connections out the back you can free up more space before trying to get the ground bolt off.
What happens to the display above the vents? I have a Limited and the display shows into about artist, song title, radio station, etc. Does the new system still utilize the upper display?
Thanks!, I've been waiting for an upload like this.
Hi there, Amazing video. I am just about to buy a basic 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid this week. My first job is to upgrade stereo, add reverse camera which I have never done before. I was wondering if you had a list of all you bought & how things where after you installed? Does the hands free work well? Any further advise?
I found if you remove the glove compartment, you have an easier way to remove the ground bolt
Hello, can you explain how desconect the anntes cable for OEM radio unit?
what happens to the top display (where the original radio information is and the clock it)(above the twin airvents)? does it just display the current time? or does it just look weird?
I just purchased a 2nd gen escape, it came with a aftermarket stereo however I noticed the clock, compass and other features that would be up at the too just say “Ford Escape” is there anyway to access that screen and get it to say the usual features
I would put a couple washers on each side of the 2 top screws to bring the top of the unit out a bit.
The bottom part with wire and not option button viewable to the driver, is traction control with an upgraded model all you have to do is get the button though you already have the wiring set for it
I think this is a dumb question but ima ask cause in school they said there is never a dumb question. Did the new console cover the black one come with the new stereo you bought or did you buy that separately???
i have a 2008 escape can i change the dash kit to the 2009 dash kit like yours?
when you install the new radio were you able to use steering wheel to control the new aftermarket radio. I have ford escape 2010 and I will be installing aftermarket JVC. I was told I cant use the steering wheel to control the radio no more.
Is there a black trim kit for a much larger unit?
Can you still set the clock with this new set-up?
I am so lost on how to wire this help!
What happens with the screen above, How can I make it work again???
Great vid thanks. On the mounting brackets on the stereo deck there should be different positions (depth) to mount those brackets. If you have room with the trim you could bring the face of it out to flush instead of recessed.
Thank you so much for this video I just brought me my first car ever it is a used Ford escape 2011 and I did not want to use my cell phone as GPS I want to buy one of those and keep my eye on the road morph thank you so much
Get yourself a circular metal washing machine from the 50s, reuse the radio front and harness to create a B9 robot from Lost in Space. With some LED lighting. you're all good
It does not compute!
Are there any basic head units instead of the touch screen
Great video. I’ve been watching this for years and I am very close to doing my own install in a 2012 Escape. I’m curious how you handled the RCA cables on the harness labeled SUB IN PUT (green and purple), RSE (red and white), and AUX (red and white). Did you leave those hanging? The interface’s harness also has pink, green, blue, and black cables left over while the stereo’s harness has green (parking break) and black with a metal thing (should I cut this off and attach it to the black cable in the other harness for ground?). What did you do with those? Also the interface has a blue/green cable in the SWC plug that I don’t know what to do with. I’d love to hear about how you handled these wires. Thanks!
Did you have to attach the ground wire to the car ground wire?
I think I have found an angel😉
Do you know if the Bluetooth still works if I do this?
Ok question why your interior is like tan and mines is black, I have a 2010 XLT version
Does the big screw around 15 minutes you took out with the metal wire connected to it reconnect to anything???
I know you didnt like the way it mounted, you couldnt use the old side brackets off the old radio, and the orange forked took comes in handy if you ever have to change your headlight assembly cause you gotta pop the front plastic bumper off and partially inner wheei well skirts,oh yeah i have a 2009 v6 ford escape same radio
Got a link to that harness?
I know it's been awhile but I am curious where you put the gps module?
Dear Sir :
will kindly send a video on how to wire my chinees head unito to my Escape_2011 because I'm in north africa and I can't get ad harness of the car side.
I'm in Ghana so how can I get some of the face to buy I already have the radio
It's looks good can you put one in my 2012 escape? PJ
so what does the screen above the vents do now that the radio is out?
Wondering the exact same.
What harness do you buy ?
Robbie how did you make the connection to the antenna? A certain company sold me a new antenna cord. I can't see how to reach the antenna mast.
Great work! Thanks! Now I'm even more interested in changing my default dash setup for let's say a bigger touchscreen (I'm dying to find one)
Great video. Thanks. Did you put the radio trim up-side down? Maybe that's why it isn't flush. I made that mistake once. Don't know if it's the same for this radio.
So how did it turn out? I have a 2008 escape and plan to make some upgrades.. Curious if you could recommend a product for mine? I'm not looking for cheap but also not looking to break the bank
I would love to learn how get stock to replace with new aftermarket.
Great video..anybody knows if this will work for a mazda tribute 2008 it looks similar
Quick question. Can you pls share me the purchase link of your wiring harness and adapter?
My vehicle is 2008 Ford Escape XLT. Thanks in advance.
Does the display above the stereo still work? the display that shows the radion station and temperature outside? or is it just off now.
Robbie, I followed your steps, and in 15 minutes the radio head was out. It was not working. I opened it and found there was a coin inside, which had shorted. Thanks.
awesome, glad I could help
Does it work?
Hello my name jose Soza I like it watch ur videos show us and I want do try best learn from u thank u very cool brother ☺️👍😎
hi I have tried to put the original radio back on my car , has Same model as urs but speakers start when I turn ignition on , no way to turn of unless I plug the cable out .... the android screen was functioning good .... but the radio doesn't.....any idea please
My son has a Ford Focus 2008. I was wondering on (Sound) click you get Bass,Treble, at last you get (Speed Compensated Volume) stands for... Try to figure out
speed compensated volume, is the automatic adjustment of your audio system sound based on the speed of your car. Typically, when you're moving faster the road and engine noise is higher. Good setting for Speed compensated volume, turns on or off the automatic adjustment of the volume based on your travelling speed.
If you'd have tried a little harder you could have gotten an exact OEM replacement radio bezel trim for the new unit. I know because I found one on Ebay.
Thinking about upgrading the stereo in my 2011 escape to one of the eBay Android head-units, but am concerned with what will happen to my steering wheel controls and if the small display above the stereo will just be unused & dead after the upgrade?
How much better fuel mileage that thing get you?? Also please advise update on extra HP🙌🤲👏
What is that big bolt ground for? Did you attach it back after installing the radio?
Plugged my new radio in and it didn't even light up so bummed right now
Any idea how to do this on the first gen?? I've got a first gen 2008 escape. The radio wont work. None of the stereo cords are colored correctly for some reason. No adapter fits lol. All wires seem to fine and the radio I have seems to be fine but I cant get any sound through the speakers at all. My only thought is that maybe theres an amp somewhere that doesnt work. If I could find it . But I cant even seem to locate an amp.
Almost certain the radio should be secured with some type of metal hold down bracket probably didn't come with the kit go universal
I appreciate this video.....I'll avoid this kit, and get one from Crutchfield...
You may be connected to the original stereo amplifier ?
Does the sync, bluetooth, etc. still work?
Hi There, I installed the new receiver but the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System) is now preventing my car from starting. Did you encounter this or has anybody? Stereo works fine though. And what did you do with the extra ground cable connected to the old metal chassis of the factory unit?
I'm trying to take apart the whole dash for painting
Great video
Quick question:
What happens to the little screen above the air vents?
What it shows now?
It loses the clock. It still shows outside temperature.
Excellent video friend. Thank you for taking the time out to do such a excellent job! Aloha.
We're did you get the trim I want to put one in mine but can't fine one and will my wiring from my 02 Mazda fit it
Where can I find or purchase this ? How much was everything all together?
16:38 Close your eyes and just listen.... LMFAO
Oh man!!! lol
karam purewal, nice that's a good one
thank you for posting that. haha.
Great video, thank you
Do you know if this will bypass the MyKey volume restriction? I made the stupid mistake of making my only key a MyKey and now I can't put my volume over 30%
