Yes, you should basically treat them the same as goldfish. No food below 10c. I've had Medaka outside over winter here in the UK. Can get pretty cold at night (down to -5c) but it doesn't stay like that duting the day. Mine seem to survive pretty well. Even the ones that I keep in a modified Belfast sink thats only 15cm deep. Remarkable creatures.
@@AQUAPROS 5'*5*3* I also keep them in a mini pond made out of an old ceramic sink that's probably about 2'*1'*1/2'. My larger pond is very low stocked, only 6 shubunkins in there with the Medaka. Loads of plants. They like to spawn in the water lettuce.
hehehe....sorry had to laugh....garage definitely freezes here in Wisconsin...that is all carry on...also think it's great you are so into the rice fish been enjoying all these videos.
Fish are pretty resilient. I keep feeder fish (minnows) in a 20 gallon out door year round and they'll eat whatever they can find and scavenge from the water.

I know for my outdoor Fancy Goldfish, when it's cold but warm enough to feed, I'll offer him dried seaweed as that's pure plant material and some of the safest food to feed during cold weather. I also wonder if you could feed the Medaka something like the Goldfish Wheat Germ pellets, meant for cool/cold weather. I know Medaka are NOT Goldfish. But i wonder if similar cool/cold weather feeding strategies might work for the Medaka.
I got a trio. Hopefully I don't loose the male. They were $10 a piece so I'm not risking them over winter in the 25 gal planter I got at Tractor Supply. Your videos got me hooked on Medaka.

Not feeding them while they are outside, means they are eating just natural foods (bugs, macro, and microfauna, etc)

Ya i think your right, as long as thoes pellets are small enough and the temps above 50 I think its all good.
I learned Medaka don't live as long if they don't experience cold weather. I made one of my aquariums cool water to help my young tricolor medaka
