Following St John Chrysostom, I would say that the family is the Church in miniature, and something to be encouraged. By contrast European Christianity is facing demographic winter, as Pope Francis has noticed. What we could do with are two synods on the family. One would discuss the difficulties which single Christians face in meeting the opposite sex, and the other would discuss encouraging married Christians to have more children. Actually we have had two synods during this papacy, but they were about railroading through a change of practice on divorce. In my country, whose language I am now using, calling someone a Papist is on a par with some of the epithets applied to Jews and to coloured people. Interesting to see its frequent use by apparent members of the Orthodox Church on this page. Isn’t “Orthodoxy” just a variety of the more extreme type of Protestantism? Yes, I am one of those Papists. Presumably I would be a heretic if I were validly baptised. I know servants of God who live just like that; no organization was ever started, no special building made, and no money requested or collected in any of the homes where fellowship meetings are held.
My Orthodox brothers, I humbly submit that in order for you be consistent with your Orthodox brethren of the time pre 10th century schism, you have to learn to include the Roman patriarch in your difficult disputes, both doctrinal and administrative. The early Fathers often appealed to Rome, because of the Petrine pre-eminence, seeking the mediation and 'confirmation of the brethren' to be had there. In more recent decades, the Bishop of Rome has made many overtures and offered more attempts to build peace and unity than have many of your autocephalous jurisdictions, excepting maybe the long suffering Church at Constantinople. In order for true unity and peace and the miracle of Antiochean Christian 'love for each other' to be evident to the unbelieving world, please begin to seek dialogue with the Roman Pontiff.
That's great and all, and Rome did have preeminence _OF HONOR_ among the patriarchs, but that was _before_ Rome went into schism against the Church and then fell into apostasy and numerous heresies. So no, absolutely not! Also, _all_ patriarchs have universal _appellate_ jurisdiction, and whatever is decided by the patriarch to whom was appealed is binding and cannot be undone by another, not even by the patriarch of Rome (when he was still around, sound in the Orthodox faith). Universal papal supremacy and papal infallibility are Roman heresies that were never taught and accepted as true in the _One,_ Holy, _Catholic,_ and Apostolic Church. If you want the Pope to have a say in Orthodox affairs, then you need to start telling your fellow Roman papists to drop their centuries-old prideful arrogance, to call out and condemn their heresies and apostasy, and willingly to return en masse to their pre-Schismatic, Orthodox faith. And this has to be done officially, by a legitimate local synod of bishops (a la Vatican 1 and 2, which were heretical _local_ synods, _not_ ecumenical councils). Only after these things are done could the Pope of Rome be brought back into communion with the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church and be reinstated as a patriarch.
@@HickoryDickory86 Why should the pope of Rome be reinstated as a patriarch, since his institution has been 1000 years separated from the he One, Holy, Universal, and Apostolic Church? Cannot we just appoint a new seat for the (western) Roman patriarchate (perhaps somewhere else in Rome) with its own bishoprics and parishes? As long as the pope of Rome is considered as a potential patriarch of the Roman patriarchate, we cannot restore orthodoxy in the West. Is not it that simple?

Yakovlievich so? Islam is hypocritical in that redefines a lot of homosexuality and requires four male adult muslim eyewitnesses to get a conviction on anything so it s a criminal (and homosexual) hellhole wherever shariah rules. but execution for homosexuals is NOT unreasonable, it is one of the things thatmakes islam look good, ignoring many other issues. the Church Canons demand excommunication for such activities andSt. Paul says these and many other kinds of sinners and their applauders are deserving of death but repentance is preferred you find reading OT and NT so execution on the first offense is not as biblically consistent law necessarily.
