    Whoa! I love the use of both Chinese and English in his notes! Smart use of whatever language will help you write the note in the shortest amount of time!
    Makes me glad I know a bit of Mandarin. I’ll make use of it now.... but I need to learn to interpret first, lol!

    Thank you so much for these tips! I am a university student studying to become an interpreter, and I am not so good with note-taking, but hopefully, I will get better!

      I have a question for you since you mentioned that you are studying to be an interpreter, do you think someone can become an interpreter with a 1 month training?

      @@kingbry198 No way! Becoming a professional interpreter takes time and effort.

    That's some cool skill you've got. How did you memorize all of those symbols? I really want to learn more about note taking! Thank you for this video

      you create some of your own or you adapt ones that already exist.
      If you take a look here 16:40 his symbol for "job" is the Chinese character for work 工
      Also, many interpreters only write the first three letters of a word, or the same word without its vowels and don't use that many symbols. It's a matter of preference.
      it's good to point out that this techinique serves only consecutive interpreting and it's not useful for taking note of a college class, for instance
      My interpretating trainer once said: if you can still read your notes after the end of your shift, your notes are not good enough. You are writing too much.

    Hi, thanks for the video. Do we take notes in the source or the target language?

    • @JohnDoe-rk7ex
      @JohnDoe-rk7ex 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would depend on what language you feel more confortable in. If you could use symbols to represent an umbrella of meanings then the use of words would likely diminish. However, note-taking should be an aid to your short-term memory rather than a short-hand for transcription. train your attentiveness and short-term, then your notes.
