Feels like a leadership test should be warrented when killing or getting killed by your own units. :D
It's unashamedly a simplified version of 40k (space marines vs tyranids) but I like it. 40k gets overly complicated very quickly (too many rules and exceptions to the rules). Keep this simple and it will be a hit.
if i can use my dimaecherons in this game, they've hooked me
Agreed. I've been playing 40k for over 10 years and its still hard for me to remember all the rules. Really looking forward to this new style while still keeping the heart of the game
It's great that you're considering options, but I'm really digging the token activation system. Boosts especially look like a really fun mechanic.
Dave and Steve , I haven’t seen you all this happy . Love that guys . Way to go!!😊
Hearing the fun banter and commentary between you guys and seeing how straightforward the rules are is really awesome. I hope you guys keep adding more factions and more lore. I can see this becoming really popular.
Optional rule: Overwatch as a boost for certain units, or maybe a universal rule. Rather than doing an action when activated, the boosted unit can wait and shoot when charged with some benefit (+1 to hit, and/or +1 on the defender's armor role). If the unit is not charged, they do nothing for the turn.
Happily backed this. The rules seem to be quick, clear, and fun! I'm super excited about this game and the models look amazing! Thank you both and for the consistent content you're developing for it!
Honestly im very surprised by how fun this looks!! Excited for more armies!
I kinda love the movement mechanic of this game.
the leader mechanic for movement is brilliant
Accidentally shooting your own guys (ie firing into units engaged in melee) is a phenomenal mechanic, and hilarious!
I gave up wargaming in eight edition … I’m getting back in .
Thank you for keeping it simple. I already have dove so much into Infinity and while I love the universe they created I don't think I'd have enough space for complicated rules to teach friends or family in another game system.
I'm looking forward to your future BatReps for Ravaged Star!!!!
Play testing these models has been a blast!! So refreshing to have such directly interactive people.
Will look back on these days fondly when yall are a giant of a company
Great job and tutorial demo guys! Hope to see more in the future!
Started watching MWG in 2013 when they were doing voice over batreps. It’s been awesome to see you all grow from a small studio to producing your own game (again🤗)!
Great job guys!
If you are looking for a way to do non-random activation, here's what I think. Boosts can happen if a unit completes some sort of special objective. Y'know conquer an outpost, kill a general, etc. Then you get a boost token for that unit for their next activation.
Okay, for the normal strategic part you could have all the tokens face down beside their unit (obviously an exception made for a boosted unit), and do A dice pull for first Battle round whoever's die/token is pulled goes first, then just alternate back and forth for the rest of the battle.
I hope that's clear, I may have said it in a bit of a weird way.
The shooting into cc is a GREAT rule! Finally! Also not having to take more leaderships when shaken and thus auto taking the impact hits…. Love it
Fun looking
This is cool as shit and easy enough for new players to join straight in. I wish you guys all the success with this game, you truly deserve it.
Maybe y’all are just really good actors, but the appearance of genuine joy and camaraderie between you two does a lot to sell me on this project. Money alone can’t buy that.
I'm so happy to see how amazing the gamefounding went, and I'm really looking forward to see this as a staple in every respectable game store
Love these rules! I’ve only played MESBG and Star Wars legion and love the elements similar to legion with tokens and leaders - very happy to see this concepts utilized! And love the models! Don’t have the funds now but loving all the content and play testing videos. Will be getting minis in the future! Still got my minions from dark potential and had so much fun back then keeping up with all the updates so very excited that Ravaged Star is happening!
Looks amazing guys
This was great !
Thank you for doing alternating moves
Looks like a great game. Looking forward to hearing more and seeing some BR.
Just pledged for one of the starter boxes!! Super excited 😊😊
You're the best!
@@miniwargaming i am starting to get interested in pledging but i jsut wanted to know when will be the shiping wave, i was not able to find this information
This is brilliant! I love the activation system, the use of d10s, the lack of rerolls and universal keywords. It's taking all of the things I find annoying in other games, and fixing them. I feel confident there will be further improvements - and it looks like you're prepared to listen to your playtesters, which is vital. I've watched the Gamefound campaign from afar - both of them - but this video has made me think I need to stop watching and start funding!
Looks great!!! I know people usually play the game to win with all that it entails, but I'd love to see a game that is played for the love of lore and story, with a narrator and many players on each side that are looking to enact what these characters would actually do in these situations. I would watch this like theater but where nobody knows exactly how the dies are going to roll!!
Please keep the current deployment process. I’m a huge fan of how Ravaged Star activations work. It stops me from having to wait 30 minutes for my opponent to move, shoot, assault, and I’m just watching 😢. It also adds randomness which prevents power gamers from making the game not fun. The randomness balances the game and allows less experienced players and weaker armies a chance to win. I love the focus being on Fun.
This video got me to chip in. I like Veil Touched and Imari, not too huge on the two player box for them but I'll get it just to have something to demo the game locally. Might get some Veil Touched minis for my World Eaters...
I love these game mechanics. Dynamic yet fast paced. Cutting out re-roll BS. D10s make for quick math and greater range of possibilities
yes yes yes hope I am still around when this comes out I will be 64 when it hits
Make sure to exercise and eat well :)
Love this. I also love how the models are now the new standard to Plastic Models and really show the durability. I am currently making the transition to OnePageRules and would love to see these armies over there. Any intention of making making these armies in their Army Forge for us to use? Also any possible OPR battle reports in the future?
We don’t have plans for that yet, but it would make sense to do it.
If you're a OnePageRules Patreon supporter you can create custom armies in their Army Builder where you can build the units from scratch, including loadouts and abilities. A lot of work for an entire army, sure, but I'm pretty sure one of us will end up doing it...
Looks fun
I´ll be watching for the next release on kickstarter and hope the game goes a long way. (watching from mexico)
You can still pledge at gamefound
But there are some frustrating comments about their Credibility
The random activation pulls seem like a great way to play it. Even if the other player pulls 3 of their tokens, the odds for you pull more of yours go up. It looks fun, exciting and a good challenge to have. Plus the elite and big models not wiping complete squads off, is a nice feature.
"Infantry got run over by a Macidon" We need that song!
It's such a cool game system and minis. Sadly, it's just way out of my price point and needing to take on $400 ( +tax & shipping ) to get the stretch pay kinda was the final nail in the coffin.
Sad as this is, I cannot deny how great it is to see you guys hit this point. It's fantastic to see how much you guys have grown. Bravo!
Ps... That poor editor *BAM!*
looks good
Please do other faction. Normale space marines and protoss like faction
I’ll get in on this when there’s an imperium loyalist space marine equivalent faction.
hmm, haven't payed much attention to this but i'm interested now
Maybe do it like star wars where you could pick one or two units you don't want too random then it go back and forth between you and your opponent, where you get too decide if you want too random or pick the chosen unit you set a token next too
No idea how many tokens will come with the rulebook and all but if there could be a way to include tokens in the boxsets themselves so if someone buys it off the shelf then they can jump in immediately
Game seams awesome already! Very deadly too! Games should be pretty quick which should appeal to certain people.
Feel all the rules are solid and easy to understand. Not sure how I feel about no abilities allowing rerolls though. Maybe that can just be something my future cyber dinos can do ;)
remindsme of star wars legion. i like it
ruler is an emmidiate dealbreaker.
I went all in on the last campaign, so of course i am all in on the new one. But the real question is... will we ever get a Vanguard army, or are they all now Veil Touched??
That's the plan! :)
@miniwargaming omg! I am so excited to see vanguard down the road! Thank you!
@@miniwargaming I would absolutely LOVE to have the Vanguard! Bonus points if they had more of a human scale to most of the units, with the power-armored guys being an elite pick. I may or may not have been considering an IG army... but would much rather spend money up north than across the ocean, if you know what I mean.
Looks great. How about an activation system similar to Conquest Last Argument of kings? You each decide what order to activate your units before a round and create a command stack of cards. It adds a nice layer of strategy, where you have to guess your opponent's order of activation. It obviously still has that surprise element and having to respond to something you just didn't see coming.
as for activation. How about you split the tokens into say 3 smaller bags, with clear markings on each. Then you add each "role" into each bag. Then the players alternate who draws a token from a bag. And the player who draw a token decide which bag to draw from. This way you can semi-force the opponent to activate a role that aint that favorable for them or you can semi-force the activation of a role you really need.
Makes activation itself a tactical game inside the game.
Ofc. this is an advanced type of activation etc. and should not be used for quick and easy games but could be a next level way for doing it for advanced players.
Also this make it so that if you know and keep track of the tokens pulled from a bag you can start pulling from bags that have higher chance of your activations if you where unlucky in the start and really need the extra boost to activate several units in a row.
Looking good so far. Like the activation system. I’m actually in favor of rules that encourage a more narrative style, as opposed to competitive style.
I am very interested about this game! Though I am interested, are there any plans for any "non chaos" "good" space knights or at least some "space elves"?
liking the sound of this game the more i hear about it. I hope you do keep the token out of the bag mechanic. Personally its one of my fav mechanics. But perhaps you could combine it with Infinity's ARO system? Have a series of available reactions, and a player could take a token out of the bag, to be able to react to the "active" players action?
hopefully this hits retail in the UK soon after the campaign is complete. would be very interested in picking this up
Will that poster in the background be available as an add on?
What size of gameboard would you play tis on? And wat kind of terrain?
Pity it's on gamefound, $170 blew out to over $350 aus before shipping. Had to cancel and game found still kept $70. No explanation for the cost blow out. Which ot a shame I was excited to paint them.
Look at Bolt action. Very cool system and allows you to do a bunch of things but you will run out of order dice then the opponent can go...
I just wish I could buy these stls for printing, because I'm not from North America and the shipping + taxes would be very high for me, but I'll try to test with proxies because that's how I can right now. If I could buy the PVC ones I would do that gladly, but that is my reality...
Onlyhands!
Are you guys going to do elves....or something like that elvish/protossish?
We have lots of faction ideas, so it’s hard to say what will be next. Space Elves are definitely on the list.
@@miniwargaming So hear me out. Cyberpunk ascetic - Synthetic Space Elves for a faction. Personal battle suits, some elite units with fauna from worlds they have discovered making up their core & support. Limited number - no way to reproduce - searching for a way to perpetuate themselves in the universe.
At a point in time approximating 2300 in your main human world, vampires soft reveal themselves to the world through the introduction of what they term SELU (Self contained Eternal Life Unit - transfer of consciousness to synthetic "sleeves") which is a lie, but it is used to propagate their lie and true nature. It does allow them to step more into the public sphere. In actuality they develop a completely loyal and subordinate race of AELF (Artificial Eternal Life Form) that they use to subordinate the human population. These thinking machines are aesthetically beautiful in a macabre irony at odds with their function and purpose.
In your own world's version of a "butlerian jihad" - after a millenia under the boot - humans fight back and rebel against their immortal overlords. One of the huge strokes that served to move the war in the favour of mankind was a hacking of the AELF mainframe and the introduction of a 'bug' that brought autonomy of thought to these synthetic beings.
Their shackles broken, they did not immediately withdraw, but as they continued to question their purpose they take off to the stars, now in charge of their own destiny. One of their first acts of autonomy is to rename themselves Eternal Life Form (ELF). A young and immortal race, with no means to reproduce but containing the wisdom and knowledge of the combined history of man, they seek their place in the galaxy.
I have so many other thoughts. I do not know all the cosmology of your universe. Or whether vampires would originate on the same planet as humans? So instead of vampires it could just be wealthy elites/corporations or a country with a desire for global domination in the earlier history of your human world. Anyway if you have a forum for ideas like this that I could make a post for the community to see? That would be awesome!
Thank you!
@@miniwargaming Hear me out: Space Kobolds.
#awesomeness
Can we pleeeeeeease get the Tokens as stl files?
Are the two player starter sets balanced against each other? We are looking for easy to pull out and play sets where we don't need to worry about balance or needing to do any sort of math before we play. If so, I'll get both.
We’re not sure yet, but I do plan on balancing them as much as I can.
And thanks so much for the super thanks!
I really like your models. I like that they come pre-assembled, although I do have concerns with painting obscured parts like that. I also don't know if there's any mold lines still left on the models.
I also like simpler more streamlined rules. I could never get into WK because it takes an hour just to set up and then 5 hours to play it. This seems faster and more interactive.
I did not understand how token activation works. What if you pull the same side 5 times and it completely obliterates the other player? Or I probably miss something here.
I hope this is successful and popular. And for one of the future armies - please consider an all-girl force that actually looks sexy and attractive. This is the one thing that none of the army games has. We have all sorts of mutants, alients and big muscular dudes. And we have Space Nuns that are trying to add women while still secretly making big muscular dudes.
I want Daughters of Khaine without snake stuff mixed with Harlequins or something. Or riding scaly alien beasts into combat. I want space amazons.
so leaderless units are just faster and more flexible in target selection than units with leader models?
Yes, but they have lower movement stats to compensate. Before I had Leaderless the Gork “dogs” had a movement of 8”.
When will be the next wave of shipping ?
How about a token sistem where you can choose but you cant repeat 2 tipes in a row
I just really hate drawing from a bag as the physical action breaks my immersion. make it an activatio card deck and I'm in. And you can do more complex options on a card like
Pick one:
- activate a Core unit and it can make a free Focus action
- activate a non-Core unit
- remove suppression from up to two units that are within 12" of a single commander
Hey, this ruleset is good!
This game appreciates random as a function. I love it! I’m old school warhammer, which is why I hated 40k 8th Ed onwards. That started the CP reroll nonsense. I don’t even know what 9th edition was supposed to be.
Question, do you think this game would work for those people who want less randomness by removing the boost tokens in bag? Or would that break the game…
If possible a undead faction so my friend could join in?
I mean it looks really cool, but the turn though random tokens seems like completely unfair and random. Like can you play a game where only your opponent's tokens show and you just don't get to do anything at all? Or you just get turns with things you don't really have a decent turn to do with? Or you draw a token from a unit type that u had but got wiped out before you could use it? Or that you get to bring a unit you realy, really like but never gets to do anything cause you never grt its token? Seems like antifun to me.
You should defitnely have a bag for each player to draw on their turn, at the very least. And automatically remove tokens from units that got wiped out. But I actually think the whole turn order should be reworked, even if you want it to be a bit more random, quick and "back and forth"; but this seems extremely rng heavy as it is, too much to be anywhere close fair/fun. I really like the surge mechanic though.
Other than that feels like a more streamlined and simplified version of 40k, for quick play, which is great.
Well, I found out about the campaign 12 hours too late... How do I buy this now...?
dwarves seem like they should be tougher....
Loved everything but the Point Blank mechanic/implementation. Cards should be as clear as possible. Have all three ranges & TRUE attack values shown on the card itself. The 8RNG + 2 attack thing is a confusing contrast to an otherwise intuitive and clean experience.
Thanks for the support! That is something we can consider.
anyone have any beta rules?
You can get the rules at our Discord server: www.miniwargaming.com/playtest
D10s... good
Free rules... good
Multiple range bands... good
Units only having one or two special rules in their stats... good
No cards that can be played to change gameplay... good (wish Magic the gathering had never been invented to show game companies they can rip customers off by just throwing card mechanics everywhere).
Fast straightforward gameplay... good
Unit leaders dominating movement... good
Minis... good, but I'm bewildered at your faction choice. Have no interest in playing space dwarves or bugs and I'm very confused as to why the community wanted these factions.
Bolt Action's terrible activation system... bad
Why is Bolt Action's system bad?
1) You inject massive levels of randomness into an overarching mechanic that dominates gameplay. Losing a game is way too possible through bad draws.
2) If you or your opponent gets too many draws in a row, the other player is sitting there twiddling their thumbs for far too long.
3) Watching your opponent get multiple draws in a row just feels bad.
4) Have you met most gamers? Do you really want to stick your hand in the same bag they have? This sounds like a joke, but I'm sadly being very serious. I have met way too many disgusting people at tournaments and cons (have you smelled the floor of the exhibit hall at Gencon?), that sticking my hand into the same bag they have is repugnant enough to make me concede the game. Not to mention people putting their cheeto dust or pizza grease on my tokens or in my bag. Even the minority of gamers who aren't hygenic monstrosities, are probably snacking while they play.
The arguments Matt had against pure alternating activation in his video, were incredibly weak and based on almost irrelevant evidence.
I would love to know if you tried extensive playtesting with pure alternating activation or if you're just making assumptions based on other games.
Keep in mind that games like Legion and Bolt Action chose mechanics based on selling players overpriced accessories like command cards, tokens, and activation dice.
All in all, I'm a lot more impressed by this video than I was watching Matt describe the thoughts behind the rules. It sounded as if you were going to go way too GW and you have instead opted for what appears to be a lot more One Page Rules.
Sorry but I couldnt care less about "Ravaged Star"
why are you here then ?
Rules available for free!! What outrageous anitchrist gamesworkshop business model is this world your creating! Dont you worship the almighty dollarydoo???!! 😂 much ❤
