    Man this game is like a Frankenstein of a lot of different wargame system's mechanics. You got a bit of Bolt Action with the bag and range mechanics, SW Legion with the unit movement, and a bit of 10th and 7th edition 40k. Also alternating activation systems are almost always better in my opinion. This game's quite interesting. Hoping for the best for Ravaged Star.

    Stat sheet suggestion: Because the Damage stat is used after the AP stat, have AP situated to the left of Damage.

    Squads or light units can be called Basic units.
    Elite like units can be called Advanced units
    Then heavier and larger units can be called Support.
    Heroic units are named characters.
    Boost can be changed to something like Chaos or something along those lines

    This looks like the rule set has a lot of promise! I'll definitely be pushing my gaming group to give it a chance.

    Just watched a video on a guy saying some of the rules will make sense to people that already play war games. Please keep in mind some of us have never played a war game so in the final rule book just make sure to think of us that are new to war gaming. Keep up the good work. Game looks awesome. I’m all in

    watching the process of itterating on the rules and seeing the new models is amazing. i like the idea of just calling the "troops" something like core units. and i would think that with the flavor and fantasy of the giant worm that adding a tank shock like mechanic to its redeploy would make a lot of sense.

    Very cool game, and I really want one of those t-shirts for Ravaged Star! :D
    As for the 'regular' units, I like the names Core and Line as they kinda fit what those units are to the army.
    I like the bigger weapons having flat damage. I hate variable damage so much. The d10 system seems fun. :)

    Nice batreps. My friends and I tried a mini battle with the rules from the videos and really liked it. Again I must ask if you ever tried with d12 instead of d10. In my personal experience they roll better and are less clunky to pick up. Just a suggestion, keep up the good work.

    Also i just wanted to make 2 rule suggestions:
    maybe think about using anti-armor being saved only on 10 instead of no save because it allows you the flexibility to make anti armor better and it mitigates the feels bad if someone rolls hot and just removes the unit immediately. (This is obviously taking into account scary antitank weapons and not just 2 dmg ones)
    Also in addition to the other shaken rules just so you think more about how to spend your boost; When a unit is shaken, the unit must make a leadership roll on each subsequent turn, which on a success removes the shaken condition. On a fail the unit may only make a single action.
    These are just my thoughts at 40+ minutes into the video, but I think the game is going super well and I’m sure the rules have changed, but as a fellow rule nerd, I love Matt’s work and I love Dave’s energy for this awesome creation. Keep up the good work guys!

    Loved the bat rep! Loved the token pulls as a Bolt Action player, I prefer this method as it keeps both sides engaged. Would say you should look at making the tokens smooth as those tokens could be sussed out

      I don't think I'd be too upset with a different word if it were fitting, but Boost sounds *just fine* to me already. It makes perfect sense, it's immediately evocative of what it does.

    What if you could save up activations to get a boost or your choice of activation. You skip your activation for a chance to have a free pick of what you activate.
    Another way it could work would be each unit has a cost to activate. Troops one, tank four. Then the tokens you pull each have varied number of activation that it gives. So you pull a token worth four. That allows you to activate a tank... Or you could pick four troops.

    “Troop” alternatives: frontline, main, core, base. Check out names for groups of animals (pride, murder, etc), they have some very unique ones. Or, what about a “star”? Then after each battle even the winner will have a “ravaged” star

    After watching the game, it looks like it's coming along nicely. Plenty of things being shaken out of the woodwork it seems from the copious questions found still.
    As for the question to us:
    For the Unit Role Name: I'd call them Frontline units. It's their job, right? To be on the frontline, to push forward and take ground.
    For the Tunneler: Why not give it the Mighty Impact rule? This way when it pops out of the ground, it can do some damage to an enemy unit in addition to potentially shaking them.
    I'll echo a bit of a feedback I gave during the last video. The boost mechanic feels kinda weird in how it's implemented. When you gather your tokens, you're always adding more tokens than units you have and I get that if you draw something you can't do you just take it out and redraw. But it feels like the game would just flow better by just not placing the unit tokens into the bag if they're getting boosted. It could be a sequence like:
    1: Assign boost tokens to units
    2: Gather tokens from remaining units and place into bag
    3: Resolve boosted units first alternating activations
    4: draw from bag for the remainder.

    Twelve minutes in and already have a dozen different ideas. I really hope you develop a large number of scenarios, critical to replay ability even with small forces. Would love to see “optional” weather rules. Really like the suggestions for “core” rather than troops. Love the boost mechanic.

    I've been subscribed to you guys for years. I've been out of touch with 40k for a few editions. I've just recently found out about this and have come back. I'm very interested in this game, but I honestly say, that to help promote it and for people to get more interested, I would highly suggest trying to keep the banter down. For me personally, I want to learn and understand the game, and I know you guys are kind of learning it as well, but it's hard to keep track and follow from a viewers perspective when there is quite so much banter. Being that this isn't a "Banter batrep", I'd just suggest/say tone it down a bit if you can. It may also deter other people that may be interested in the game that may not have seen your channel before and aren't used to all the banter. Ease them into it a bit. Explain what your doing along with rules, and keep it about to that for now while you are trying to promote and learn/teach the game please! Looking forward to more videos non-the-less.

    The razor worm felt weak. Did not feel like it was nearly as cool as the apocalypse. I was excited to see the bug. Im less excited now. They didn't feel like they had much going for them.

    Looks like a fun game. My question is what is the lore like? Is it more like 40K were everyone is evil or morally dark grey, picking the lesser of the many evils. Or is it more like Age of Sigmar or Star Wars were you have good guys vs bad guys, with a few neutral parties in between. I know game play comes first, but some great lore can really spice up a game and bring it to life. I'm also curious about the Gorgon/Bugs lore, as a Tyranid player. Are they more like Zerg (humans in bug bodies) or are they more like Xenomorphs or Tyranids (we know nothing about them except they are dangerous)?

      It's a direct ripoff of 40k with enough words replaced with different ones to hopefully avoid the boot from GW when this gets close to final..i still dont think its going to work. They'll wait till MWG is feeling secure and really extends this project before they stomp it.

    The tokens next to the units makes sense so you know who has activated, it can get pretty space consuming to have to have them on cards being used for stats.
    For the main or regular Troops, You could use Core, Main, Body, Basic, or if you want to be fancy use the Latin "Sempre" (which means always) cause they are always there as the core of the army.
    I think it would help to have to declare which Boost you are picking for the unit as soon as you choose that unit, more order of operations I think will really help.
    I think 3 or 4 rounds is better than going 5.
    Also, I think it may be good to give tanks and heavily armoured stuff better than a 5+ save.

    Possible unit collective terms - A horde, a mob, a pack. Pack is nifty, as it can be an animal pack like Gorkog, but can also be like a war pack which is what the Veil Touched boxes are marketed as.

    This has been awesome to watch! I wish the models were available quicker.
    Feedback: I like that the losing person gets an extra boost, but I feel they should only get an extra boost if they are significantly behind. Seeing as how powerful the boosts are, having just 1 victory point less doesn't warrant an extra boost, in my opinion.

    I like "Basic" for the regular / core / troop units. Basic, Elite, Commander, Support - those feel like good categories for things to fit into that are agnostic to army style.

    The unit at 14:00 .... What was its other Boost option? Couldn't he have taken that instead of nothing, if he wasn't able to benefit from the Nova one?

    Instead of having a set length, you could have the game end 1 round after one player has been wiped out. That way there is some benefit for winning the field. In addition to this give units the ability to withdraw from the battle so that a player can try and end the battle early if they think the extra round won’t be enough for their opponent to win.
    Edit: d12s are superior.
    Edit: keywords are king. Good call.

    The mini's look great, the rules look solid but I really don't like the token activation system. Just a personal preference thing but I like to be in control of my army. Again not saying it's bad but it killed shatterpoint for me. Any chance you could make a rules variant using alternating activations?

      Honestly, no reason that you couldn't just choose to do alternating activations. You have 3 boosts per turn with your commander in play BUT make it so your first activation can't be boosted that way it adds another element of strategy.

      I really like the current method, but if you want to play by an alternative ruleset do it Legion style where your order is still random but it alternates back and forth between players.
      Personally I'm all for the single-bag random draw system.

    Call the basic units pack/legion because they arrive in the biggest numbers. Recommend making a rule to place the activation markers next to the unit/model it gives a easy view of what has already been activated (also less chance of cheating). It would be awesome if in the future we can get activation markers for the commanders with the image of the commanders or factions (in different colors)

    1:31:20 play the same units and starting positions to see the difference of dice rolls. If the worm guys get clogged again then needs some changes.
    Also the tank r plosion damage should be lowered as a massive unit only popping 1 unit was a bit naff. The level to trigger an explosion damage needs lowering from 9 to 8 or maybe even 7.
    The worm assume has scales to defend.

    With the ability to remove shaken as a boost, the redeploy displacement should be one action because that boost on the worm was pointless.

    Regiment is my throw in for troop name, I heard squad mentioned, that works fine as well. Not that anything is wrong with troop.
    And ATX is a suggestion for attacks, I t try honk it’s listed as acc, I find that a little much next to AC for armour
    Or at least that’s how I was interpreting it.

    I suggest calling the basic troop units "foundation" units. Since they are the core of an army.

    Will each faction come with some sort of faction rules? Right now it slightly feels like there is little to tell the factions apart besides their names and the look of their models
    I would get more excited if it was even something small like the bugs get a +1 ballistic skill when in large clumps/groups and the VT get +1 movement when moving towards an objective

    Psychic Cephalid parasites... Like the Goa'uld, but octopus or squid like parasites...
    Would be dope AF.
    I like the stuff I'm seeing and want desperately to get in on the next campaign, but funds will limit my options, lol.

    My recommendation for unit-type names is Core`or something to Mainline for Troops, Vanguard for Elites/Fast Attack, Rearguard for Heavy Support, Transports and HQ are fine. If you keep the division of units to 3 types it would be simpler. You could also have the Vanguard be a name for the Troops for they arrive first and Honorguard for Elites. Thank you for the video. The current rules for the system seem fun. I do ask if you are going to allow the HQ units to join other units like the older editions of Warhammer and the current version of 10th edition. Enjoy your weekend.

    A good faction non-specific name/term for "regular" line troops is "Mainstays", as you say ;0)

    suggestion : if you want to give possibilities that have implications for a weapon profile example the flying bug that can gain nova 2 but if he does also gain short you could use parentheses to write it easily example :
    acid spit X ; X ; X ; Nova (2 ; short)
    or maybe acid spit X ; X ; X ; (Nova 2 ; short) (XXX ; XXX)
    or have several lines in the weapon profile.

      @@MastaDRD problem is mate and I’m sure many are in same boat as me is I’m spread over many game systems. Even worse is one is a tcg and everyone knows those are just as bad as miniature games. Plus not everyone in my local area has gotten into the idea of this as they are die hard 40K so convincing them will be difficult too

      @@miniwargaming Woohoo!!!!! Btw, I love how simultaneously kill-y and yet "stable" this game is. Big things don't get totally merc'ed in one go (except with ludicrous die rolls), every unit feels like it can contribute, and yet stuff hangs around long enough to create a back and forth. I always hate those Round 1 alpha strikes in 40k that leave one side limping for the rest of the game. Keep up the great work!

    I'd like to see, for large models, damage spill over when targeting normal sized units. Truly make the big bugs, the big guns as dangerous as they should be.

    Sooo thinking on this but honestly I think that each faction could call their troops, Elits and all that by their own terminogy using the same tokens. The terms for troops/Recruits i think would be nice to fit in with the lore of each army. Honestly the game looked fairly well balanced as a whole though going to have to do some playtesting myself to figure out what to decide how the balance and trooper are.

      I respect the lore inclination but that feels like a nightmare from a mutual understanding perspective.

      @@MastaDRD Yeah thinking on that as I am thinking lore is a big part of it...but not sure the level of units they have. Recruits, Grunts that all really does work but just thinking on what should be. Just can't find the rules set to get a better feel for the flow of the game but love what i see so far.

    Idk how changing "warp" to "veil" keeps you from getting slapped down by GW. Do you think it will work long term? Genuinely curious. Literally nothing else is different. You ripped of chaos directly, you ripped off tyranids pretty much 1 for 1. Still waiting on your Night Armygars and Dogal Rorn and the Rot Protectors to release.

    I keep thinking you should do something else with the tokens. I can see people making skew lists just for the greater tactical flexibility.
    If all I bring is elites thenwhen I draw I have the flexibility to pick the unit that will have the greatest impact. I get to play the game and my opponent only gets to react.
    What if you had a hierarchy of tokens. If you pull an elite you can activate an elite or two regular troops.
    If you pull the commander he can activate or any other one unit of your choice.

    There is some good stuff and some bad stuff, like i don’t like the activation sequencing, i think you just put two tokens in the bag one representing each side and somebody draws who goes first then alternate unit by unit as in one side activates a unit then the other side activates a unit, bin all that boost crap shouldn’t be needed… and you play a round by activating each unit alternately until your done then draw again so it is possible to do 2 units in a row but it won’t be crippling like your current token drawing sequencing could be…

    Why don’t you call the leaders Leader units, the elites Special units, and the troops Core units. In terms of generic names those are about as close as you can get to all encompassing.

    skimmed though the units and they are really smooth and clean... But you alswo have room to add USRs desriptions to them which not only would get rid of pagaes in the Core rukrles but also let you play with just cards if you want assuming you'll have cards for terrain and game modes. But otherwise looking really good!
