These are USB 3.2 Gen2. Is there any advantage in editing when paying a premium for Thunderbolt SSDs (even if that means buying the enclosure and SSD separately)?
Not proprietary at all. Just make sure you are using a USB-C or Thunderbolt cable with USB-C connection that supports the data/transfer speed of your drive.
hi, could you help me which one is better to choose between X9 or X10 since i only see this information for my laptop spec: 2 Thunderbolt™ 4 with USB4™ Type-C® 40Gbps signaling rate ; 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 10Gbps signaling rate ? I dont see any information in 3.2 gen 2 or something like that
Unless you have a computer that can support the bus speeds, the X9 Pro is all you need. For example, no MacBook Pro computers support the faster transfer rates of the X10 Pro. Don’t get the X9. Get the X9 Pro.
What is the difference between x9 pro v x9 Mac Pro......, besides the 40e difference. is it just colour and preformatting? are you better just getting the cheap x9 pro and reformating it yourself?
@@karkunow Yep. And the bus speeds on my MBP make getting the X10 Pro a waste of money. X9 Pro will do the trick. I also really like the OWC Envoy drives.
❌ The reason why I came here is because I am looking for answers to my issue. I have a MacBook Air M1 and a new Crucial X9, but after three installations onto the external SSD I keep getting this same error message: "The version of macOS on the selected disk needs to be reinstalled". I have successfully done this installation procedure multiple times over the years, so I am presuming that Apple have recently set restrictions. It’s a GUID and APFS, and I have been into Recovery Mode to lower the security to Reduced Security. The problem is not the supplied cable that came with the Crucial X9 because I am selecting the Startup Disk from within System Settings on the internal drive and the disk is mounting on the desktop. I partitioned the Crucial X9 and have successfully moved files across. On the second partition, I have installed OSX 15.0.1 twice using the downloaded installer from the App Store and the third installation was performed in Recovery Mode, the latter taking much longer. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks for the post. Unfortunately I have no insight into how to resolve this. I have always used Disk Utility to reformat my drives to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and haven’t had issues.
@@theC47 @craigneidel Thanks, I'm trying not to send it back, but it looks as though I might have to. I saw someone say that APFS was specifically designed for SSD drives, but like you, I always used Extended (Journaled) many years ago. What do you think? Cheers :)

Honestly, I’m not sure but maybe someone else will chime in. I just need them to be fast and not throttle. So far so good with these.
So what MacBook Pro are you using? M2 or M3 (with Thunderbolt 4)?
M2 Max MacBook Pro
Can you use a longer cable or are those proprietary and determine speed?

I don't see any difference except formatting so I'd definietly go with the less expensive one and format for Mac, if needed.
yeah, no difference technically at all. you can just format it by yourself

@@theC47 Just bought X9 Pro 2 days ago! :)
Can it be used on iPhone 14 Pro Max?
It’s USB-C. 15, yes. 14, I don’t believe so.
@@theC47 thankyou

@GigiUK I just use journaled.
rubbish review, why are you even sent test units if you cant test them
Don’t understand your comment. These are my drives. Bought by me. I use them all the time.
