Elvis was in New York to appear on the Steve Allen show (Hy Gardner was referring to that appearance when he asked Elvis if he had fun tonight). Elvis would have gone back to his hotel room after the Steve Allen show and, as this interview was for television, they would have organised lighting, microphones, cameras in the hotel room to captures Elvis’ part.
Elvis was at the Warwick Hotel in NY when he spoke to Gardner on the phone in July. Elvis was forced to wear a tux & sing "Hound Dog" to a live hound dog on Steve Allen's show. Elvis was incensed & had a few choice words to say when he got off stage. But Elvis, being the nice guy he always was, he did what he was supposed to do & looked like he had a good time. It's been said that Steve Allen was an elitist snob who did hate Elvis and the new musical sound but needed ratings for his TV show. Elvis was the best at interviewing -- he spoke well, he spoke politely, he didn't display anger or shout no matter how pissed he may have been. People now can take a few lessons from him in how to conduct a nice interview & behave themselves.
I always enjoy watching & listening to this early Elvis interview, when he was just 20 years old. He handled the questions very well, responding to all questions in a polite & respectful manner. Shame more singers & actors aren’t like him back then & nowadays, aren’t like him. He did look very tired & on only 4-5 hours sleep at his age, plus the shows, concerts (most not filmed), interviews & rehearsing, & the stress of all the criticism aimed at him, I’m not surprised. But he chose to look at the positive stuff rather than rant & rave about all the negative stuff. His 1956 & 57 Live Concerts at Tupelo, his hometown, were filmed, & they are great to look at, so I hope you do react to at least one of them, because early Elvis is always precious to watch, especially in the very rare footage of a live concert in his hometown. Enjoyed your reaction to this interview. There is a wonderful interview done in 1960, when Elvis has just arrived home after doing his two years in the army in Germany, & you can see that those two years have given him more maturity & confidence, & then of course, Frank Sinatra bid the highest, paying an unheard of sum, to have Elvis on his TV show, & that is great to watch also.
I thought Elvis was at home in Memphis. I saw it in real time. Elvis had just been on the Steve Allen show to prove Allen could tame Elvis for family viewing. Allen was an arrogant Musician who thought Elvis was a dumb hick and tried to degrade him in this show, demanding if Elvis performed his music that he remain still and wear a Tux. Parker lined up this gig because it was a national prime time show. Elvis was gracious through the whole thing and as usual thanked Allen for inviting him. You have got to see "Elvis Presley and the Black Community". The flack he took was unimaginable. His fans in the era were the blacks he grew up with. Thanks
Elvis loved the movies so that's why he always wanted to be an actor. This is probably my favorite Elvis interview. He was so young, he hadn't lost any of his accent yet and he still came across as shy...which he was when he wasn't on stage. And in some ways, it shows that Elvis didn't change over the years...still humble, respectful & rather self-deprecating like when he said that he wasn't a good singer. I'm sure the man knew he could sing! Thanks for another great Elvis reaction video.
If you want to check out Elvis's breakout year of 1956, "Elvis '56" Narrated by Levon Helm of The Band, very informative and will answer some of your question's about Elvis, I enjoy your reaction's to Elvis and I'm glad I found your channel.
Would love to see you do (1) "Burning Love" from his 1972 in Greensboro, NC concert th-cam.com/video/sx7I4DfUGM4/w-d-xo.html when he had the lyric sheet with him on stage & told the audience it's a new song & they may goof it up. No singer has ever stood on stage & admitted to thousands of people they needed their lyric sheet with them. And the ending is real fun -- almost like they didn't want to stop as he said I didnt think we'd end the blang thing. (2) Water throwing incident Hampton Roads, Virginia 1972 - @ very start of the video Elvis called out "Please Release Me" but the band began playing "I Can't Stop Loving You." He didn't stop them but he went right into the song, walked over to his glass of water & threw it playfully at Glen @ piano. A fun, powerhouse, energetic performance th-cam.com/video/LNtP5Gd8QGE/w-d-xo.html -- make sure you hear him say Please Release Me then the water incident will make sense.
@@belinda35_77 I am hoping that he does one of the two live open-air concerts that Elvis did in his hometown of Tupelo in 1956 & 57. They’re on YT … well, at least one of them is, as it was filmed, & it’s rare footage to see Elvis in live concert in the 50s, so I’m hoping you will suggest that to Zakk.
Elvis Presley was an absolute expert in interviews.....he was smarter than most expected him to be. Legend 💯⚡❤️
Elvis always the best and this has always been one of my favorite interviews of him. He looks exhausted. Still so sweet
They are not in the same room, Elvis as cool as ever and always himself.

Elvis was actually in his hotel room during the interview

Zakk don't make fun of his accent 😂...I think it's adorable ❤
The acual interview was 10 mins long . This one has been cut . The whole interview is very good
Missed you doing EP!👑✌️
Thanks!
Intereting. All through the James Dean part, Elvis has closed eyes. He seams embarrassed to be compared to Dean.

he is pretty much going in chronological order & we're just finishing the 50s heading into the 60s :)
