One of the best episodes. Great series, thanks for uploading!

This series should have called it a day at end of season 4. Although season 5 has occasional moments of the old humour and flair, there is an aura of weakness about. This is not merely because of the departure of Robert Lindsay, it has much to do with the writing, and lack of ideas.
It has gone from solid humour to being plain silly! (Thank uou, Monty Python!)

Plus the S4 finale was the best and most satisfying finale this series could've gotten...

Series 5 wasn't as good but is far superior to the crap on TV these days. And that wasn't the fault of Karl Howman who also turned out to be a great comedy actor.

Yes I miss Robert as Jakey, but Karl wasn't a bad replacement.

I don't know why they replaced Robert Lindsay with Karl.

Ooops...Marsh says he was born in 1946. So he made NCO by 9 years old!

@@thomasbristow9362 Although his wife says (in an earlier episode) he'd BEEN a Cpl for 9 years. Perhaps she meant/or I miss heard, it has taken him 9 years. Either way (and I know nothing of the RAF or National Service, I was a volunteer (Army) in '78) I don't think he's done bad, Full screw in 9. Not too shabby.

The series is set in 1955 so being a corporal for nine years kind of makes sense but he must’ve joined as an airman and served an amount of time before promotion which means that he could’ve potentially joined during the latter war years or at least in 1945.
His RAF trade is drill instructor so he could’ve trained as such as an airman and fast tracked to corporal. In the story he has hit a dead end and tries to change trade to advance himself which is why he tries to train as a medic and of course falls flat on his face.
The military was a far bigger organisation with a higher turnover of people joining and being demobbed in those days.

Wrong he clearly stated he Joined in 1946 not Born.
