Absolutely a GREAT LEGENDARY PLAYER. Even growing up in Detroit, Reggie was a big reason that I fell in love with baseball. He was a real 5 tool guy early in Oakland, injuries early in his career slowed him a little. He was GREAT & he'd tell you he's GREAT.....lol

I was 10 in 1970 and raised a White Sox Fan, so we saw how good the A's were and how bad the White Sox were in the Early 70's. And the first time to see the A's "Glow in the Dark" Green/Yellow uniforms was almost Shocking and then they took over the Baseball world.
Some of my earliest and BEST memories growing up in NY, involves the Yankees and Reggie Jackson. I'll will never forget Reggie going after Denny, and then Oscar Gamble and Bobby Brown physically carrying Reggie off the field. That was the first time I'd ever seen a fight like that in major league baseball. Loved it ever since.

Reggie definitely didn’t strike out in that 1971 all star game!! I have never seen a ball hit harder than that one and I was at dodger stadium in 1999 when mark McGuire hit a ball out of dodger stadium out in left center.
Willie stargell hit one out of Dodger stadium too, i don't know if it's ever been done again....Dave kingman came close as a met....if it wasn't for his paltry average....he'd definitely be in the hof
@@jaycompany4886 I think even though Dave Kingman batted .200 he almost hit 500 HR’S and if Harold Baines is in the HOF you might just let everyone in and I followed baseball from the 70’s to present and I think a HOFER’S should be great players and Harold Baines wasn’t a great player he was a very good player who made 6 all star teams probably most of them because a voted players couldn’t make it. I think don mattingly and Steve Garvey were both great players Steve Garvey made 8-9 all star teams and he was voted as a starter in 5 of them I think!!!
My boyhood hero back in the 70's. He didn't just hit moon shots he looked cooler than anybody doin it. As a kid I wanted to look just like him batting.
Reggie was awesome. Even when he struck out it was Kacey at bat. Every time he went to bat it was high drama. He always made his team better, even though it sometimes created tension on the team. He instilled confidence in his team even when he wasn’t a real ra ra guy, except for himself..lol However something about caused you to root for him - even his own teammates. He was a superstar but had a humanity about him that made him hugely likeable..

At camp we had kids from Baltimore, Boston, and NYC and the pennant race on the radio every evening after lights out, when I'd sneak in the broadcasts under the covers. Each time I left camp the Yankees were behind and each time I got home they'd win, never letting me down. Then Dad died in 1979, Munson, the 1981 strike, and I wound up at the track.
A group of us were in front of the Club Corso on E 86th St. NYC. (1977). All of a sudden there was a ''road rage'' commotion in front of the club. 2 loudmouths were cursing out a driver over a parking spot. When we looked inside the car it was Mr. October live and in person. Henry the bouncer was quick to react. He told Jackson, ''stay in your car, I'll handle this for you''. Jackson was no ones fool. He followed Henry's instructions. The entire group of about 10 surrounded the loudmouth's car. Big Henry did the discreet talking in low tones. Suddenly the loudmouths shut up and quickly drove away without any further adieu. Jackson thanked all of us and he cranked up his engine to also quickly depart. We probably saved Reggie from a newspaper scandal that would have followed him back to the NYY mgmt. offices. I was glad to help b/c the NYY were on the attack for a championship run.
Reggie broke all the records! The only guy in the hall of fame that leads the league in strike outs. 1/3 of his time at the plate yielded a strike out. But he did strike out gracefully; but still it counted as an out. He never hit 50 home runs, but to his credit, he never took steroids. If you read the wrapper of the Reggie Bar, on the side wrapper, Reggie tells you how good it is. He’s the only guy that can stir the drink right. And if you don’t believe he’s the best, ask him, and he’ll tell you how great he is.
I think Reggie and Mickey Mantle were the greatest clutch hitters in the World Series. Mickey hit 18 World Series homers. Reggie was just a clutch hitter. But that Yankee team he was on were all arrogant not just Reggie. Thurman for sure, but they focused on Reggie. I saw them all in Kansas City losing every game and then they go to Oakland and win three World Series in a row. Look what Mantle and Maris went through. It’s crazy.
Reggie does not get his credit as one of the greatest baseball players of all time . Forget about the lies people told about his fielding , the 568 homers and balls lost to warning tracks that would have put him in the 600 hr club if he played in a different era , the 200+ steals … he’s a 5x WS winner and must be respected as such , maybe one day 😐
'71 All- Star game homer by Reggie was great, but no shot of ball hitting the tower cameraman lost the ball. Love the quick sky shot of Tigers Stadium.
The younger generation may not realize the NFL although great ratings, did not have players with individual charisma back then. Joe Namath obviously was at the forefront. But injuries derailed him. The Steelers and the Cowboys were ascending but I don’t think they stood out as individuals. Reggie, Steve Garvey and Pete Rose amongst others were household names in the 70’s. When Reggie came to New York it was a game changer. I can tell you from experience going to Yankees games back then was bigger than going to Giants or Jets games. Reggie was a true superstar...
He backed it up with winning results. He put his money where his mouth was so to speak. If the A's had stayed together they would have won at least 3 and possibly 4 more world championships.

rhino11us Oh I see what you mean, well they won the American League the year before Reggie arrived, he went 2 for 20 in the championship series and was finally benched in Kansas City. He was in a horrible slump until the 3rd game of the World Series against the Dodgers when he broke out and hit 3 homers in the 6th game. Proving the Yankees were not losers before Reggie and in fact far from it.

I’ve never had any problem it’s black athletes being outspoken. I’ve always resented when anybody speaks without thinking. So if some people resented Reggie, it wasn’t because he was black.: it was because he had a big mouth.
