I've carried a Swiss Champ for over thirty years. I've used every tool with the exception of the dehooking tool since I'm not a fisherman. Well, never opened anything with the cork screw but it's a handy place to carry the small screwdriver.
What a beauty! I'm getting one sometime. I'll buy it and carry it to work and stuff. One of my friends has one of these and I fell in love with it as soon as I picked it up it. UPDATE: got it and its awesome.
At 21 mins I thought that this was a little long before I watched it - but everything is nicely explained and the camera is sharp as a pin showing close-up detail very well. Thanks. By the way, I could not help noticing you have very photogenic hands!
You're welcome Martin. I appreciate your time to give me feedback. Very happy with the video camera (HC-X800 btw) and am looking to get a TZ60 soon for the stills and personal photos. Thank you for watching and for your compliment regarding my photogenic hands!
I plan to get the Swisschamp. I have the champion (MFG. 1983-1985) I use it everyday from working on Boeing 707s to rebuilding a toaster oven. I love it! Shows it's the best when it's 30+ years old and works like new. Thank you for the review!!
I have one in my go bag and one in my pocket. I use this tool literally every day. It is the best survival tool for it's size and utility I have ever owned in all my 54 years.
Dude, I have many Swiss Army Knives, and I have watched many, many, many videos about it, but I still enjoyed listening to you speak about this one even though I knew everything about everything you spoke about! Good job!
My SwissChamp mostly stays in a drawer unless I need the tiny screwdriver for glasses, or the corkscrew for the odd bottle o' vino. My Classic, however, has become a permanent resident on my keychain. My Mechanic lives in my glove box. A Cadet stays in my bookbag at all times. I think part of the fun of SAK's is distilling it down to the tools you find useful most frequently. Sure, the SwissChamp has most bases covered, but it's huge and uncomfortable for many tasks. That said, however, it does make a great "micro-toolbox" for someone in an apartment or just starting out in a new place with next to nothing. As a literal pocketknife, it's a tad excessive.
There are folks on Reddit who have posted pictures of carrying an even fatter one, the Swiss Champ XLT, in the coin pocket if their jeans! And, I tested with my own XLT, is doable - www.reddit.com/r/victorinox/comments/fev5gc/post_photos_of_your_victorinox_in_your_pocket_or/?
My SwissChamp is approaching its 30th birthday. The configuration is a little different than this one and does not have that hookie-thing-a-ma-jiggy on the back side as yours does. I purchased a leather sheath from a local hardware store and it included a teeny steel that, to my surprise, works very well! The blades are sharp and I wouldn't be caught out without them (even with the Leatherman SuperTool 300 I recently bought). Yes, many commenters say this is a somewhat heavy tool, but in a pinch you could have a five pound hammer dangling from your belt but it won't help if you need small tools to keep yourself alive in the worst case scenario.
Honestly I might get one of these, most of my pants have 6 different pockets that could comfortably carry one and it has so many tools I need to use frequently.
Nice video, thank you. I've had a similar SA for years. Mine doesn't have the pliers or the tiny pin but is otherwise identical. I must say, however, that I almost never carry mine despite the fact that I always carry a small knife. It's too heavy to carry in the pocket. Does well in my car glove box, though.
I use mine around the house often, love everything about it but my favorite tool on the Swiss champ is the tiny screwdriver resting in the corkscrew, the tiny screwdriver fits the screws in my glasses's arms perfectly.
I recently bought a Victorinox Ranger. It didn't have a mini screwdriver or a pin in it. I got a screwdriver off Amazon for £2.89, but they wanted £2.30 for the pin, so I pinched one from the wife's sewing box. I don't see why they can't give you them with the knife.
Have you ever tried fire with a magnifying glass of that size? It is really hard to do with any magnifier with a diameter less than 2 inches. The magnifying glass is useful but that isn't why.
Along with the toothpick, pin and tweezers, they could have also put in a slot for a needle or two. Also - they could have embedded a compass into the plastic cover. Just saying. Oh - one more thing. They had 3 sizes of flathead screwdrivers but only one size phillips-head. Needed a small one (for glasses ,etc.). And a serrated knife blade.
thanks for the review mate I own one and love it if I had the cash I would go for the swiss champ xlt but that's me being tool greedy! nice to see a fellow uk youtuber!
great review !! why not try the victorinox Spartan? it has 13 functions such as:rehmer, cork screw, bottle opener, wire stripper, large flat head, small flat head, large blade, small blade, tooth pick ,tweezers ,key chain and pin.😊
Dare I say it this is more useful in an outdoor setting than a Leatherman? Firstly the saw is better and actually thicker and longer than on most Leatherman tools, certainly much sturdier and longer than the one on a Rebar. The scissors are also far superior to Leatherman scissors. The only tool which is bigger and more robust on larger Leathermans is the pliers. However you are unlikely to encounter large nuts and bolts in the woods. The small pliers on the SAKs are good for grabbing hot cooking pots, or other hot items such as the simmer ring on a Trangia stove, as well as for gear repairs which is all you would be working on in the woods, you wouldn't be working on heavy machinery or trucks.
I would like to add a serrated blade and ditch the magnifying glass. Most of the time the magnifying glass get broken when the champ is falling on a hard surface and then you have one less tool to use. Think of customising mine when I have it. Will have to buy an extra knife that has it and just customise it myself.
A fantastic allrander Swiss army knife/multi purpose tool people say it's too much for EDC i don't think it's too big for what it is also all the options it gives you in a 91mm at 185g i think it's an outstanding balance for for the size i really like this model to some other models like the victorinox fieldmasder i know it's better for poickit carry but i keep coming back to the victorinox Swiss champ it depends on what your doing on the day but it's even better to EDC with a poickit clep lanyard from the poickit or belt carry it in the victorinox leather case if you're going to be doing a lot of walking other wise I'll just put it into the poickit with a clip at the end of the day it is the Swiss champ 🏆 yea buddy 👍🏻
Anyone found the ruler scale on the inches side is slightly shorter than the standard like 1/32” short? The other side of cm scale is correct. Anyway its still good tool.
Nice taste mate, got one for myself in the mail! very useful, very good material and durability, my other victorinox and tought has hell, and by the way, nice watch, are you a G-man to:)?
+Sup3rSaiy3n :-) I like good presentations like this for good stuff. Yet I noticed the Champ around 7:00 is the previous version and I like it more, longer cross screwdriver and to me better magnifier. The only downside is the file/metal saw being less effective than the new.
Hey, this is totally off topic, but why did you call it a pen or pin knife, I am not criticizing, I just want to know. I have the camping one as it has everything I need for my everyday carry knife chores.
@@destinygamingproductions24 Pen knife = folding pocket knife in the UK. From the time when pens were actually feathers (goose quills) and you needed a small sharp knife to cut the nib into the right shape.

The Victorinox factory is in Switzerland... Leatherman is still good, but they'd be more useful if you're a mechanic or carpenter due to the specific tools so not as good as Victorinox for EDC
i think you get more bang for your buck with a leatherman (especially in urban setting) coz it has the same stuff you'll find in most victorinox but you'll never find a plier in a regular victorinox. even a keychain size leatherman (like the squirt ps4) will give you more capabilities than a reg victorinox. gerbers on the other hand are mostly junk, broke a couple of gerber dimes under medium use.
I replace. They're pretty cheap to replace and I wouldn't know where to start to refill them tbh. I've never had to replace any of mine though as I don't really use them as my primary writing tool. They're more of a back up.

Haha nice one. Those clever Swiss eh?
Whaaaat?? 😲😲😲

Well, it has a pin. I didn't hear him talk about a needle. But that would be SOO useful - or sew useful to crack a pun 🙂
