    Hi, it looks like you're still studying, so here's a piece of advice, as I also studied in Poland:
    Complain to the dean's office through the student representative.
    I've had those situations as well, and complaints helped a lot.

    I am a firefighter/paramedic stateside who is planning to enroll in a one year, pre-med post-bacc program starting next May. I have begun studying Polish on my own now as I enjoy the language and culture of Poland, and I am seriously considering this route for medical school. The issues you have raised in this video are significant, but hopefully most, if not all, of them will be addressed within the next two years when I plan to start medical school. Im currently at 2nd year an another polish university,
    I would have also mention, at least on my experience, the fact of the few or inexistent flexibility with absences on basically all clases.
    Even when the student does not find the lecture useful for example, or when its for elective courses (but mandatory) that will only stress and make the daily schedule even more busy than it actually is and does not really help at all on the formation of the student.
    We had music and medicine elective on the 1st year, were we had mandatory classes during 4hs even in exam sessions. And like that one there is plenty of other similar situations.
    Sometimes you just have the feelling that there is some stuff happening, which is pointless, in which you will never have a say, and as he mentioned you just have to adapt and bow your head to it.

    Hello! My Brother just got into the PUMS and will hopefully be studying there starting this year. So I am so happy that I found your videos! We were wondering if language becomes an Issue. Are the students expected to learn Polish to be able to work at the hospital for the practical part of the studies? I also heard that there is a 13 month Internship at the end of the medicine studies in Poland, is that apply to the international studies as well, how does language play into that? I would be really happy if you respond and help for our decision.

      The entrance exam is a basic science test on Bio, Chem, and Physics. If you’ve taken those courses you’ll do fine. Plus the interview seems to be weighted more heavily. That said, the admission requirements have changed since I entered the program (PUMS only offers a 6 year MD now). @eoinMB3949 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Let me ask you something though........in an earlier video you mentioned that you came from a English teaching, academic back ground. How was it going from that to heavy science. What I mean is, did you connect with the science at all or did you find it dry and unengaging, but something you had to get done but didnt particularly enjoy? I love the idea of being a doctor myself but I dont love science. I can get the job done and theres nothing I cant handle about science, but I just dont seem to connect with the material. How did you find the science coming from where you were before.

    • @MAtoMD
      @MAtoMD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eoin Brennan Great question! For one, I feel my humanities background prepared me well for med school. I absorb textbooks fairly quickly and attribute this to years of teaching writing and giving feedback on student work. As for connecting with science, in my post-bacc I did enjoy bio, chem, and even O chem (Physics was a beast tho). Keep in mind the courses you take in med school will be way more fun than prereqs if you are interested in the human body and it’s disease. I enjoyed Histo and Micro much more than any of the prereqs, and I’ve been glued to Pathoma for much of the summer, by choice. And if you enjoy dissection in bio lab, cadaver lab in Anatomy will blow your mind. Maybe reflect on what draws you to medicine in the first place. The human side of science becomes much clearer in med school, which makes it compelling for me.

    Hey man, thanks for the video! I was just wondering, are you planning to go back to the US and practice medicine there, or are you looking to practice abroad? I've heard it is a bit of an uphill battle if we're going back to the US, but I'm also open to practicing abroad too. Do you have any idea what prospects look like for PUMS Graduates in terms of matching/residency/practicing abroad? I'd love to hear your thoughts

    • @MAtoMD
      @MAtoMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I’m planning to return to the US for residency and practice. As far as matching, we have a dozen or so PUMS grads match in the states each year, most in primary care and a couple in more competitive fields like anesthesia/surgery. If you are open to primary care or fields like Psych, PMR, and even OB, then I wouldn’t be too concerned about matching from PUMS. But if you have your sights set on a super competitive residency like Derm or Neurosurgery, then you’d be wise to apply stateside. Those matches aren’t impossible from an international med school, but they are extremely rare

    • @MAtoMD
      @MAtoMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wanted to ask about challenge #1. You mentioned some instructors are not understanding. Supposed we were faced by these changes of locoation, or time, are we held accountable for that issue ? Can they fail us because of that?!
    One more thing, is attendance graded, or necessary in any way ? (Meant to ask that if you arrived late and the instructor assigned as abscent, can you still attend the class? Or he will ask you to leave.. also is that abscent note gonna affect you?

    • @MAtoMD
      @MAtoMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Attendance policies vary quite a bit across departments here, as do teaching methods and grading policies. To be frank I’ve found most professors are quite strict regarding attendance. Absences can lower your grade and in anatomy, for instance, you cannot enter lab sessions if you arrive late. But you tend to get familiar with each prof’s style so failing due to absences/tardies shouldn’t be an issue.

      Yes, we can always try to protest and we often do. Some profs are more receptive to dialogue than others. In Biochem, for instance, our prof did allow us to review exams and even removed one or two erroneous questions. But unfortunately this has been an exception so far.

      Hmm I'm not familiar with LEK, but you might ask in the FB group for applicants. We've got some current students who are likely familiar with Polish language exams:

      Ceren Hey, I’m at Poznan U of Medical Sciences. If you self-finance your studies, PUMS is a decent option in Poland. But be wary of using student loans here

    Do they offer post graduate MD ?

    • @MAtoMD
      @MAtoMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kind of. The standard MD program length is now 6 years, but you can apply for course exemptions, which might shorten your studies to 4-5 years.

    How much do you spend on groceries per month?

    • @MAtoMD
      @MAtoMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Food is generally cheaper here than in the US. I buy groceries every 2-3 days and spend around 200USD/month. But I cook (and eat) a lot! Others might spend less.
      If you go out for kebab, burgers, or pierogis, you can expect to pay 4-8USD for a good sized meal. There are also some incredible mom n pops' restaurants nearby where you spend about the same for traditional Polish food.

    Have you heard of HOPE MEDICAL INSTITUe?

    • @MAtoMD
      @MAtoMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I considered applying there as well but chose not to due to tuition being quite high for clinical years 3 and 4. But those two full years of clinical experience in US hospitals would theoretically make matching a bit easier. It’s a trade off

      @@MAtoMD did you consider the carribean?

    • @MAtoMD
      @MAtoMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@corinne1928 Yes. Carib programs generally include two years of US rotations, which greatly increases your odds of matching. But tuition was ultimately too high for me. By contrast my school in Poland allows us 4 months of US rotations and tuition is less than half that of Saba, the program I most considered. It’s a trade off
