No one dead and a city fairly well destroyed, though not on the level this episode says. So the takeaway is that the anime world has different physics than the real world. Thus the premise of this episode changes to... "What if Saitama existed in the real world?" or something like that.

Matt, I think you forgot one thing here. By the time Beefcake got far enough into the city that Saitama finally did his punch, pretty much the whole area was emptied of people. Unless Beefcake fell on top of the evac center they all went to, he basically fell on a bunch of buildings with no one inside them (Except for any idiots who stayed inside)
Not to mention, not like Beefie was tiptoeing around- he was flattening city blocks by the second. Dropping him, even with the collateral damage, probably added a minute to the damage BC would've done on his own. (Sure, he should've went for the "punch into the sun" option, but still caused less damage than ignoring)
Literally about to comment this. The hero's association can evacuate people really fast think about the episode with deep sea king, everyone was already inside a evac center, and you would think that something as big as "beef cake" would be slower then deep sea king.
@@Sephiroth144 And there are some problems with "punch into the sun" anyway. It took 2000kg of propellant and several gravity assists to get a 50kg probe from Earth to the sun over several years to just get into an orbit swinging within a few gigameters of the sun. Beefcake obviously had more than 50kg of mass even before he became a towering giant leaving deep, 2.2km long footprints and Saitama's punch has to impart escape velocity + earth's orbital velocity instantaneously. Assuming Beefcake scaled up in mass proportionately and was the average bodybuilder mass of 74kg, that would be the equivalent of 296 Mt or nearly 6 Tsar Bomba's going off at the point of his fist.
He also forgot that punching the meteor made it lose a lot of speed that it had. and that crater of his jump is not that big circle but the smallest one in the middle as everything around it is from rock being moved. Oh and the fact that if all of those were not stopped by him, they would create much more destruction.
@@Skrunni I heard in the manga Saitama was trying to remember the gravity of the moon. The anime decided to have Saitama not think but test the gravity with a stone
@@jasonnelson9141 The first guy thought Saitama was just making sure that he's on the moon instead of wondering how much force he needed to get back to Earth
The anime actually has an explanation on why the city is almost always a ghost town when monsters attack. 1, the government/hero association has a comprehensive/thorough evacuation plan that takes about minutes for a complete evacuation. 2, the have super durable evacuation site(houses? Dome?) With underground passages for faster movement. 3, the heroes also help(and they more likely than not have super human stats) lastly i think the one punch man universe has a more durable version of earth considering all the supernatural occurrences on the daily.
mostly you r saying is true but cmon guys how much you r gonna justify that one punch man doesn't break physics like thousands of times, at least you can't still change the fact that his jump definitely would have affect their moon's orbit and even a slight change in that would definitely lead to doom of humanity, not to mention probably all the stuff that is happening in the manga too, BUT i never watched OPM for this BUT only its hilariousness and comedy so OPM breaking physics is nothing more than comedy too for me!!
@@princerawat4297 You are assuming the moon is the same size as our earths moon. A larger moon tidal locked to a larger planet would take more force to move it. Matpat figured the size of the crater but not the size of the moon. The crater did not look like 10% of its overall size.

In the first episode they said they were evacuating, Saitama's stalling would give them much more time. Plus there's the factor that in that city are many villain, criminal or monster attacks, meaning they have special ways to evacuate large amounts of civilians. They also saw Beefcake so they probably categorized him as a highly dangerous individual, therefore evacuating many more then we would be led to believe.
Also why didn't he use the same calculation of city blocks he used for the footprint on where *he actually fell* Idk, but it just feels incorrect to not use the actual image of where he fell.

I really hope that matpat knows that by the time that siatama did damage to the surrounding areas there were already clear notes of vacancy due to the clear gtf out the area warning that they do literally every episode and siatama always does his strong hits when everyone should have clearly gotten away to saftey
More property damage the civilian casualty. Honestly though, the people of OPM are built different, if a chunk of meteor hit a civilian they'd probably be fine.
Yeah, there's the evacuations, and the bunkers, as per all the announcements. Not to mention, that by his own admission, Saitama always arrives late. So plenty of time for them to reach safety.
Cities cannot be evacuated like that in any timely manner whatsoever. The roads would quickly be stop and go, thereby clogging any and all exist points for not just hours, but days. Monsters attack so fast that the only places that can reasonably be said to be 'evacuated' are the downtown areas. To say otherwise is to make up magically reasons why "no one died because of magical evacuation rules."
Matpat is basically complaining that Saitama saved the planet 2 times when he stopped the meteor that was close to the one that killed the dinosaurs resulting in 0 deaths and stopping an alien evasion that was planning to destroy the planet.
Still bad but not the worst outcome People actually using "violence breeds violence" when talking about Jesus Christ himself Like yeah You're right But do you want to fight Jesus?
Genos in the show does state that Saitama 'Killed the Meteor's momentum,' implying that the force from Saitama's punch essentially not only fragmented the meteor, but put the entire mass of the meteor to a dead stop, only allowing it what looks to be ~1km of altitude to accelerate from, vastly decreasing the meteor's energy output.
yeah but that's not a fun theory for mat. It's a common trend on his theories. Throw away small details that derail his theories and hope no one notices
Not sure if the impact on the meteor from Saitama's punch would be the equivalent to that meteor exploding with the same energy of it falling from space.
It might had been even higher than calculated. Though the actual devastation might be lower since he did go thru the object, meaning most of the energy released should have gone up with him. It's like two cars slamming head on, the heavier (or more powerful) would move the object in the same general direction as it.

Sidenote, he went that fast by literally farting in the first place.
Just to let you know, as a peer in reading the manga, Saitama did not break time by farting. 1. He farted due to the Sun's heat and used that momentum to catch up to Garou, since he can't fly 2. The cities are evacuated and they tell you that less than 5 minutes in to the first episode. Also, Saitama is well aware of the dangers of his capability. This is why he actually sub cautiously chooses to end his fights in 1 punch. Its our own fault that this concept is funny.
It’s a very safe get that the city was evacuated during beefcakes rampage. That sort of devastation isn’t something that saitama would just gloss over.
its a shame they didnt include the manga casualty's when he fought with cosmic garou. the casualty's would be off the charts most likely in the billions!
You should suggest what he could have done differently in that situation. Questions like: How else could he stop beefcake? What better way could he deal with the meteor? What other way could he get back from the moon? These kinds of questions could work in a lot more theories

The evacuation plans in the show somehow empty a city in minutes so the casualties are pretty much closer to thousands from him killing beefcake As for the meteor part , Saitama likely also created a massive pressure wave with his punch which aside from vaporizing a good portion of the meteor also massively decelerated all the chunks , so it may be like 2 million chunks falling but they probably have vastly slowed down The moon is tidally locked to the planet in its current state , if saitama did enough to really change much then the moon should seem to start rotating so either his damage was significantly less or that moon isn’t exactly like ours
@@_Emrakull this is true , but I was thinking more like when he punched the ocean king he literally stopped the rain for a bit from the pressure wave pushing the rain back up , I think the mass lost to burn up would be much smaller then a small meteor though because only it’s external surface is heating up (and only the forward portion at that) So I think it was safe to safe this was negligible almost

Saitama punching the meteor and beefcake actually helped, beefcake was only about 270 meters tall and if you look at that scene where beefcake punches the area he destroys is much bigger than he is.
Keep in mind that not all of the downward force was in that initial explosion, just enough to destroy the structural integrity of the meteor, at which point the smaller chunks flew out with the remaining energy, with their greater total surface area meaning more bleed off to atmospheric resistance before they hit the ground. Similarly, Beefcake likely would have done more damage than his fall did if left to his own devices. A couple dozen steps would still be more than the surface area of his body.

Not to mention Saitama's area of activity is usually empty due to past monster activity throughout his journey to getting stronger, the few people that lives in his city is him and his disciple. This is mentioned earlier on when the government talked about how nobody lives in Z-city, save for the 4 heroes in here and possibly a small number of civilians that would immediately evacuate.
Also in the show I think they clarified that everyone evacuated I don't think Saitama actually would want to get innocent people killed especially if he held himself back from destroying the earth, jumping from the moon to the earth

I think MatPat forgor to check his calculations against the energy required to propel Saitama from the moon to Earth nearly instantaneously, didn't take into account the depth of the crater Saitama created, and highballed all his variables to heck. Also, despite using a picture in which the moon is clearly still in orbit, he still claims the moon is de-orbited.
he didn't claim the moon was deorbited in the show, he said in real life that jump would've deorbited the moon, if only slightly, which still has massive consequences for Earth
the funny thing about the meteor episode is that no one got hurt except for the stores that saitama likes, the more funnier thing is that the building that saitama hates is still standing (it was his old apartment or something) and doesnt have any scratch
It would actually be somewhat easier to calculate Beefcake's height. Even hunched over like he is, the cloud at his pelvis is most likely an Altocumulus cloud. At its highest would only be around 23k feet in altitude.
why during the entire intro where he was in an anime movie intro he just had his hand up the entire scene like even at that window he still had his hand up i could see his thumb through the window
I _think_ they actually mention later on that the meteor shower, somehow, didn't actually cause any casualties. It seems evacuation was fast enough in that case.
There were near to none casualties mentioned in the show in these circumstances. The reason being, there are tons of attacks done by monsters every day which means they most likely have underground shelters or something to save themselves from these dangers.
I think it is already shown that earth was left baren due to the attack of previous monsters and both saitama and garou. Plus cosmic radiation emitted by cosmic garou killed most of the human

I like the fan theory that Saitama was so obsessed with becoming the "Strongest and bravest hero", that he became a human shaped monster. Given that we know that extreme obsession is one of the things that creates monsters in that world. Just a fun thought. 😅
I ascribe to a similar thought. His obsession was to be able to stop a threat with one punch, and his body did that, with everything that came with it. In that change, he became enhanced, like a monster in their world. It probably happened to all humans that have enough determination as opposed to obsession to a lesser form, like what Bang has, and Bang isn’t a monster, just enhanced, else his fight with Garou would have ended quicker in the web comic.
@@Liandra24 it's a fun theory but not quite right. In the story, Dr. Genus, after having done more research concludes that every living organism is born with a limiter that limits their ability and that God (yes, God exists in the OPM universe) made it so that the world wouldn't fall into chaos by people and monsters continually getting stronger and better. Dr. Genus' then theorises that this limiter can be broken, both in the human and the monster form of a person, through near death experiences and not stopping even then. Saitama being a normal office man, his training regiment was too brutal for his body to handle and even then he didn't stop. So, in the process, he broke his limiter and gained infinite strength and speed because, again, then there's no limit to his ability. So, all in all, it WAS his training that gave him that strength.
I actually don’t think he’s a monster because a monster is described as something that still retains its limits, but simply expanded it own limits through extensive amounts through force, but even then the limit is still there and stagnant yet stretched (which would explain their monstrous mannerisms and animalistic instincts.) but Satama didn’t stretch his limits, but rather broke through them entirely through seer will and pretty much actively pushing through it rather then suddenly pushing against it, and grew beyond it, his feelings are overshadowed by his own power which would explains his blank emotions, yet he still possesses humanity to his core (seeing Genos as a friend, getting mad at playing video games, worrying about sales for food, etc)
A better graph that explains a species limit status and cause for behavior in categorys. Civilian Humans or aliens - normal limits that adapt in size depending on human habits and natural evolution. Monsters - stretched limits that were expanded with sudden force, stagnant and stretched, but not really close to be broken through, but now even harder to break through due to limits possibly evolving to become unbreakable, ironically reaching its peak evolution while also technically crippling the users ability to break through said limits. Sudden force of power also inflated certain emotions as well, causing them to have monstrous and animalistic desires. It is still possible to stretch limit with more power however, as long as the user has the strength and will to continue to push against it. Heroes - limits grew over time due to extensive training, but not exactly pushed or broken through but not nearly as messy as a monsters suddenly stretched limit. Limit still evolves however if owner doesn’t change up exercise or if owner does an exercise so many times to the point where they begin to become used to it, eventually until they can no longer become stronger until they pick another training that is effective to pushing through limits. Saitama - someone who managed to destroy and break through limit due to the constant, non stop, and sudden pain and hardship he put himself through when training, a measure taken against a basic evolved limit equivalent to that of every salary man. It’s important to note that, the less evolved the limit is, the easier it is to break through it. While the stronger it is, the harder it is to break through. In simpler terms, a saleryman will have an “easier” time breaking through their limits then a muscleman hero would. But this is perspective talking, in technical terms, it’s actually just as difficult for both parties, just done in different ways. The only case it would actually be harder to break through those limits is if one was a monster how gained power in a very short period of time, it could actually, potentially, be impossible for a monster to break through limits. That’s just a theory though and my perspective on the matter

He still cares, it's just that his priority is finding someone strong enough. Otherwise, he'd prefer to leave it alone. As someone who also struggles with apathy, I understand it from a psychological aspect. When you have apathy, it's not that you don't care AT ALL, it's that it's not as important as it used to be. It's true he used to only care about being a hero, that's what made him get strong, but throughout the first season, it's more about finding someone stronger.

In the first episode they said they were evacuating, Saitama's stalling would give them much more time. They explained in the manga that most of the meteor disintegrated so only like a small area got caught and a few minor injuries
It might had been even higher than calculated. Though the actual devastation might be lower since he did go thru the object, meaning most of the energy released should have gone up with him. Rip Jupiter
He’s gonna lose his mind when he finds out Saitama sneezed away Jupiter on the OPM Manga 🤧
He forgor 💀
he didn't claim the moon was deorbited in the show, he said in real life that jump would've deorbited the moon, if only slightly, which still has massive consequences for Earth

the funny thing about the meteor episode is that no one got hurt except for the stores that saitama likes, the more funnier thing is that the building that saitama hates is still standing (it was his old apartment or something) and doesnt have any scratch
It would actually be somewhat easier to calculate Beefcake's height. Even hunched over like he is, the cloud at his pelvis is most likely an Altocumulus cloud. At its highest would only be around 23k feet in altitude.

I _think_ they actually mention later on that the meteor shower, somehow, didn't actually cause any casualties. It seems evacuation was fast enough in that case.
They can evacuate entire cities in minutes in this anime so yeah, it would've been mostly fine
Counterpoint: he punched the meteor so hard the fragments also were pushed back by the force wave of his punch
There were near to none casualties mentioned in the show in these circumstances. The reason being, there are tons of attacks done by monsters every day which means they most likely have underground shelters or something to save themselves from these dangers.
Or, massive casualties are so commonplace that it's no longer considered newsworthy.
Good point.
this is based on real life
Imagine the damage he caused in the fight with Cosmic Garou 💀
Bloodlust Saitama is honestly terrifying
I think it is already shown that earth was left baren due to the attack of previous monsters and both saitama and garou. Plus cosmic radiation emitted by cosmic garou killed most of the human

In the manga, it’s referenced that the city was entirely evacuated before the beefcake incident and there were no casualties

But you are bringing logic and facts into his 18 minute long ad for a game that he's getting paid for promoting. 😂
@@MizuMing well he wont read a manga for a video like this its to time consuming
@@unknowngamer5768 That's bad research practice. For everything else he does good research. Even referencing the wiki would have been better than what he did, which I understand is pandering to the game so he gets paid for it but still at least provide the correct information. All he did was make invalid statements and invalid numbers that meant nothing. Near half a million people did not get crushed under beefcake, although the meteor was damaging so wasn't really much for death there either. It was all damage to the city but not necessarily to the people, but he just keeps referencing numbers of people that died when there weren't any. Thus it was empty and pointless, and thus bad research.
@@MizuMing well he forgot to say something the moon didnt move in the anime so maybe the earth had more mass so stronger gravitational force and the point of the video was to say saitama is dangerous to earth and thats it so it doest change the outcome even though its bad research and also saitama punch seemed to vaporise more than 50 percent of the meteor for it to course so little damage
In the anime they specified that Saitama's punch killed the meteor's momentum. So it just fell with gravity from that point on.
Did his punch also stop the shcokwaves he generated? Or the sonic booms?

Edit, this is for the the beefcake calculation
Yeah they explain in the manga that this is 0
I like the fan theory that Saitama was so obsessed with becoming the "Strongest and bravest hero", that he became a human shaped monster.
It’s nothing new as a theory but… why do so many people want him to be a monster? 😢 It sucks!
To be fair, he has said multiple times he doesn't care (edit: as much anymore) about saving anyone, he just (edit: mostly) wants to find a strong opponent. And in the show, almost each time, everyone is evacuated or implied to have evacuated each time to minimize casualties. Either way, he isn't really trying (edit: focused, not trying) to help anyone, he's just trying to find someone strong enough to challenge him.
EDIT: I worded this incorrectly, and the OPM stands came for me, lol. He still CARES, just not as much as he used to. It is still important to him to help people, but his major focus is finding strong opponents and just getting by.
So Sitama has the same focus as Goku
@@chrischapin222 In a way, yes. Goku still cares about everyone alot, although when it comes down to it, he will pick a challenge over the greater good. Saitama, however, cares about doing the right thing a lot less, due to his developed apathy. So, Goku really is trying to do the right thing. Meanwhile, Saitama only saves the world to either a) find a challenge, or b) stop something from inconveniencing him. I mean, he still has a good heart, and cares about the people around him, but it just isn't the reason he's a hero.
@@kitsunemusicisfire well said
You're completely wrong he never said anything like he doesn't care about saving anyone... Infact it's the only reason he started his journey of becoming strong..And it can be seen multiple times in both anime and manga that he cares about people
@@Yash-pe3nt That's why I specified that he doesn't care AS MUCH. He still cared somewhat, but he's expressed multiple times that his main focus is fighting strong enemies. He literally says that in the first episode. There are times when a threat came to society and, even though he could finish it quickly, he didn't want to, unless it came to the point where it would inconvenience him if he didn't. Almost everyone he fights is because either they get in his way, or he thinks they are strong.
I love how Matt changes the intro depending on what style of the film we are watching ❤!!
