Today I have a mini cooper that came in for a major oil leak that was dripping oil onto the exhaust. Come along as we attempt to repair the leak!
Oh well .. rings a bell. I faced the same issue , first I tried without using the service mode way. Then I gave up like you did. When I tried to put it into service mode, the headlights screws would not get loose, and even broke due to rust, so there I was stuck again. Then I gave it a second try without removing the front bumper and all that stuff around. Yes it takes a bit of exhaust gasket bending but it goes back into place really easy when you rebuilt the whole thing. So bottom line, yes it can be done with a little bit of patience and it surely takes less time than removing the whole front.
hat off Mister . You're a Car Doctor, honest and pasion of you job, here my city , mecanic told you motor fail yunk car ASAP. I just bought a car same issues , dealer rip me off, don't want to fixing, 30 days warranty pass. Blessing
Thank you for the kind words!!
Are you in Kansas...it looked like you passed The Wizard on the left! 31:28
I just replaced the thermostat and cross-over tube on my Gen2 R55 yesterday. Created some new 4-letter words (under my breath) in the process. That damned thermostat is the most overengineered plastic piece of crappola I've ever seen. What should be a simple job turned into open heart surgery with a Jarvik heart. German engineering has convinced of one thing...Gen. Patton is my hero. In any event, what could go wrong did...the plastic end with gasket on that cross over tube broke off. Thank goodness I had a long pick and a fiber optic video camera to fish the broken bits out of the back of the housing that meets the water pump. My arms look like I crawled through a briar patch!
All is well now. I still like the way that Clubman S drives...fun car when it's running well. But you have to stay on top of maintenance....and change the oil frequently (every 5K miles) on the N14 and its other Prince-engine variants. Otherwise, the blowback is costly.
I love your narrative!😂 I am actually in Illinois Central Illinois to be exact
I have a 2008 mini cooper clubman that has the same problem. I want to fix before it gets too cold.
A lot of labor to replace a $30.00 gasket set. You did the job correctly and safely while protecting the customers automobile.
Thanks!!
Replacing this is no joke, its an absolute nightmare
I found 10nm wasn't enough to stop the water leak on mine, I put the manifold back on to test it before I replaced it all and it still leaked, I think I went to 15nm
I had a 2007 mini cooper s...and they are not fun to work on. Might as well change the water pump while your at it...it's prob due after the drive to your shop.
You are probably right. Customer is wanting to sell it so he was wanting to repair only what was leaking.
@hrdiesel i went through 4 water pumps in 5 years...plastic water pumps, who'd think they wouldn't last. Changed 4 myself in my driveway after the cost of the dealership doing (and the heart attack i had over the bill).
@@JenkinsLocks I have seen metal impellar variants for supply. A little more in price, but worth the money imho. It's a tough job to get to those bolts.
u a boss. how many hours to do it ? cause video have some cuts
Thanks! I actually don’t even remember how many hours I had ended, but it was a few.
