    For anyone not using a Sony camera, the alternative is ‘Mercalli pRoDAD’ and if you’re using a BMPCC then you have a gyro stabilisation built into Davinci Resolve free and studio

    • @riftyfx
      @riftyfx ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True, it’s inconvenient. It would only be useful when you have the resolution to back it up like shooting in 4k or 6k then cropping in wouldn’t be bad. But then at that point you’d have an expensive enough camera to spend enough to buy a gimbal anyway.

  • @dougmorato

    You need to analyze first then you can adjust it as you like and export it. We can also add a bit of motion blur later on if that’s the case. To me I can see the amount of stabilization necessary and added before exporting it. Catalyst browse is game changer. But, it does not replace a gimbal. Actually as you said, it’s a complement to the gimbal.

    There were some crucial points missing in the vid and you hyped it up way too much. Here goes:
    - It only works on modern lenses.
    - Catalyst crops the image and than exports it 4K, so it upscales the footage. I read it in the comments already, it really downgrades the quality.
    Some people already pointed out the analyze button. It could also be your system isn't fast enough, plus you need a graphics card with more than 8 GB of VRAM. If you don't, longer files will run your graphics card out of VRAM memory and even when you batch export, all files after that will fail to render.
    Than there were some inconsistencies in your story. If you only have to batch export and we're going by the info you gave it doesn't add that many extra steps in your post production. And in the end you say: it might work for you if you don't care about motion blur, but it wasn't about motion blur, it was about the blurry pulses you get.
    Anyway, this isn't a substitute for gimbal shots. Just as in camera stabilization isn't. The movement you get is different. Yes, it stabilizes but it doesn't gimbal-stabilize it.

    After adding a crop factor (or minimum cropping ratio slider) on to the footage inside catalyst browse, in the bottom right of the screen u have a button "analyze". The problem when you record handheld and running chasing the girl obviously you had to use the catalyst with the gyro but the crop left a lot of background out in the scene. I love handheld when I film closeup shots but for me the gimbal is very essential for action shots because we can waist time putting the gyro, editing, cropping, exporting etc etc etc. So, another good tool is a cinema saddle bag but they are expensive and not all knows how to balance the camera with your body at the same time, so gimbal came for help us to make easy our job. -lock horizon,
    -adjust cropping ratio
    -you can export in prores,

    but you have to record with IBIS turned off, more complicated because you have more control.

    Most phones nowadays have gyro sensors so you can record gyro data with that and throw it into the Gyroflow software. It takes a bit more time to sync and organize files than CB but it's much more accessible as it'll work with any camera. This is great, but most filmmaker use gimbal and other equipments because you can't show up for a client job holding a camera in your hand.
    It just doesn't work

    So even though my BMPCC4K has gyro data and I have the feature in Resolve, I still fly it on my Crane 3S because the gimbal gives better results with less Judder.

    Hi Henbu, love this video! I've been watching all of your stuff for months now. Perfect balance of informative, entertaining, and good cinematic value.

    My good fellow, slow down about 25%. It is very difficult to follow at the speed you are talking. What you are saying is good when I can hear it clearly. Using the settings to slow it down to 75% is better but does lead to some slurring that is difficult to understand. Just a suggestion on presentation, not content.

    what if the clip doesn't contain metadata? I shoot with an a7iii but my clips don't seem to have it.

    Isn't gyro stabilisation built into an processed in camera in the *Sony FX30* ...

  • @bmkq2007

    For the time being, i dont think its possible.
    1) Given the fact Sony adds features with new hardware. they dont do substantial firmware updates like this.
    2) I dont think the current processors are capable of running such a processing task without sacrificing battery life or manage heat dissipation on current bodies.
    3) iphone sensors are hugely smaller than APSC/FF sensors, this is one factor that smartphones can process data from such a small sensors.
    I'm not saying this is not doable but saying this wont be happening anytime soon due to the lack of market competition, so why would they implement something like this when their cameras are being sold in minutes.

    Anything for A7iii?

  • @tragedyproductions4165
    @tragedyproductions4165 ปีที่แล้ว

    That’s great and all but would rather get it right once with the gimbal and not give it any stabilization so the minimal “shake” looks more natural. Plus, stabilization will just crop a ton of the footage.

    Your shoes make a difference. I use socks for indoors but for outdoor stuff you might want to try something with a really thin sole like driving shoes
