    Thank you so much for making this video. I put this off because I didn't know how to cut angles. I just finished trim, baseboards and quarter round thanks to this. Thanks again....

    I bought this tool and realized after going onto TH-cam that even the instructional videos are wrong. It's no wonder all the carpenters laughed at me, I think we've all been confused by this tool and have given up! I insist on learning how to use it though! Thanks for trying!

      why don't you please make a video and show us how to?

      @@justinc2625 Because I still have no idea how to use this tool.

    Right on! Someone who could show what the outside numbers are for. Thanks

    Thank you. I bought one of these and was struggling with how to properly utilize it. Your videos helped me wrap my mind around how I could best use the protractor.

    Just picked the harbor freight one to do baseboards & what would have taken me 2 day to do, took me 7 hours. There was a few video watching to figure out how to use it & this one was well informed

    I think some of the negative comments are related to folks not realizing that two concepts are being integrated you have a protractor and you have a miter saw the 40 degree angle reading takes you from the protractor to the miter saw. I had the identical reading (40) I cut 2 test pieces from scrap and they fit perfectly. Prior to this I was struggling. Just understand which scale works for you looking at the display window with 3 numbers.

    Thank you! I had the same outside angle @40 degrees. Appreciate the video!

    The first angle is 140 degrees, the second is 145 degrees

  • @ricardomahoudeau6345

    Acute is less than 90. Obtuse is greater until 179. Straight is 180.Circle is 360. And right is 90 only

  • @Sanction05
    @Sanction05 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Your first angle that you measure is a Obtuse angle which is greater that 90 degrees. I think the angle is 140 instead of 40 degrees. I could be wrong.

      You are right. Mr. Harris is right too, in saying to get the base shoe to fit, you would cut it at 20 degrees. Geometry is great, isn't it.

    • @douglaslavergne7817
      @douglaslavergne7817 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      sanction015 Yes. That was my concern as well. Both of those angles would more commonly be call Obtuse (>90 degrees).

    • @jamespage6874
      @jamespage6874 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      sanction015 you are definitely right, the angle is 140 degree. This video made me laugh man. Thanks to Johnny Harris.

      @wes4842 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you are correct and the second angle was larger than he stated 115? He needs to read directions or review his Geometry if he took it.

    • @4G64SicKShoT
      @4G64SicKShoT 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He read the mitre angle not the protractor angle. One starts 0 at the top the other 90. If you were to halve the 140 youde be putting two 70degrees together. Doing shoemolding on which he was talking about he was absolutely correct, but i see where it would confuse anyone who doesnt do base

    One thing not mentioned here is that the device has a vernier scale on it to help read fractions of a degree. Look elsewhere on TH-cam for how to use Vernier scales. I'm sure there are videos out there which explain that. This can be a really accurate device. I have one made by General tools which is the twin of this one, made by Empire.

      And that's what I'm lookin to figure out. I'm making drum shells out of stave blocks and my angles need to be percise to .10 if possible.

    • @dcmccart25
      @dcmccart25 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wizzle Google "vernier scale" and read the Wikipedia article on it. It's a useful skill to have, one I was taught in high school physics, I beiieve. Try this link: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernier_scale
      Good luck.

      The scale is possibly similar to a bevel protractor in minutes th-cam.com/video/oJFUI_FHlio/w-d-xo.html

    www.toolexperts.com/description_files/images/29.pdf will give you a complete description of this protractor. There is a lot of information that these guys are not showing as far as which scale is used with each angle. This web site will provide that info.

      Thank you! You are the first person I've found after searching everywhere on google and youtube that posted this. A simple instruction sheet was all I needed to make this tool useful. Why the manufacturer couldn't include this with the tool is beyond me.

    NOT a 40 degree angle. Probably 140. Need two 70s.

    • @tatianefernandes800
      @tatianefernandes800 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      40 degree / 140 degree, they are the SAME! So are 20 degree and 70 degree.

  • @larryitsalarryitsa4139
    @larryitsalarryitsa4139 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    First read the instructions and learn to use the tool. Then learn the correct terms Acute, Obtuse, etc.
    It is 'totally accurate" when you read the vernier scale.
