  • There are two great flea markets near my home every weekend. Both are usually excellent for finding quality tools. Hop in my Suburban and let's go see what we can find for about $100.

    There’s always a great sense of fulfillment after being able to complete a set! Great job!

      Agreed! Soon I'll be going through all of the sockets again to build some others and see what else I may be missing to complete other sets.

    My Grandpa called that store Monkey and Wrench, definitely looking forward to the drill restoration. That was a great tool haul, fun to watch. That Rubbermaid tool box looks like a beast. Thanks for taking us along.

      lol! I've heard it called Monkey Wards but never heard Monkey and Wrench. I'm thinking of working on that drill tomorrow. It looks like it'll be fun.

    Thanks for sharing the trip and haul! We had that Rubbermade tool box - never rusted and never marred an auto interior 😂!
    Rubbermade is one of those brands where old USA version was many times better.

    • @floridarusticrepairs
      @floridarusticrepairs  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! That's a great box to keep for road trips. It's surprisingly strong. Is Rubbermaid not manufactured in the USA now?

    Ok, I think I might have you beat except it wasn't at a flea market. Today I got a 1/3 hp Craftsman grinder with lamp dated to 1964 and a trunk load of vintage tools (pliers, wrenches, clamps, files, etc, etc) all for $60!

    • @floridarusticrepairs

      Thanks! i grew up with Craftsman. My father and grandfather had them and i saw truck mechanics using them so i've always liked them. I didn't need Snap On or whatever other expensive brand was out there. Craftsman has never let me down.

    for certain jobs when you only use specific tools but you cant's always remember which ones, we would tape or group tools together so it would be easier to find and quicker to do the job.

      That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the info. I do something similar with my oil change toolbox. I've got the #3 filter wrench, a ratchet and extension and a 15mm wrench all segregated for my Suburban and Avalanche.

    Great haul! $20 for that loaded Rubbermaid tool box was a score! Who do you donate the tool sets to when you complete them?

    • @floridarusticrepairs
      @floridarusticrepairs  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! i donate to anyone who needs them and wants to learn how to fix things. Students or adults.

    I had someone give me an adjustable wrench made like a rachet its ok if you have plenty of room but i don't think it would hold up to much torque i always buy tools and boxes because when a teenager helps me for the summer and they show interest and really try to learn ill repaint the box and fix up a complete set of handtools for them and alot of them are so happy they cry and it keeps them interested because nobody has ever done anything like that for them im happy to give them stuff boys and girls some of the girls will outwork the boys

    • @floridarusticrepairs
      @floridarusticrepairs  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's awesome! I do pretty much the exact same thing. A lot of what I take in gets donated out again. Not just to teenagers but anyone who wants to learn. When they complete a project they get to keep any of the tools used that they don't have. Even simple things like showing them how to change the oil in their cars is a great experience and i usually get to learn some things as well. Glad you're out there helping young people learn how to be self sufficient!

    The screwdriver with another screwdriver inside it. I believe they are called nesting tools because one tool nest inside the other. I have a few of them, Most have 3 screwdrivers. I have one that has 4.
    Are you anywhere near williston florida? My wife and I are coming down for a month, first of next year, I wouldn't mind hitting some flea markets if there's any nearby.

      Nice! One thing I've always hated doing is brake lines. I'm originally from New England, so the bane of my existence as a kid was when a line would blow. It meant every line and hose had to come out and they would all be rusted solid.

  • @donaldpainter956

    Anytime you can get metric wrenches cheap get them because i keep them for making special bent wrenches i have probably two dozen from over the years and i know what engine they are for and when i do that repair im glad i have them

    • @floridarusticrepairs
      @floridarusticrepairs  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good point. Do you heat them to bend them? I've come across custom bent wrenches in tool box hauls but I've never made one.

    • @griffinwarner7310
      @griffinwarner7310 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@floridarusticrepairsYeah definitely, wrenches are made to a very high hardness so they don’t bend (may be obvious) so if you try bending one without getting it red hot it’ll just snap. And that’s if you manage to get enough leverage on one 😂

    Until I get a garage/workshop the size of yours, I must refrain from visiting flea markets, estate sales etc. I wonder if your Montgomery Ward drill was made by one of the Chicago area
    toolmakers of the day.🤔

    Heck I'm looking at spending $40 just for a face shield and most of the grinders I see for sale are like $50-60 and not nearly as heavy duty as that one. Surprised at how many tools were there but It's been years since I've been to a flea market.

    • @floridarusticrepairs
      @floridarusticrepairs  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The only explanation I have for why there are so many tools at these two flea markets is that it's a somewhat rural area. I've never seen anywhere else that compares. the grinder was the deal of the day.

    • @floridarusticrepairs

      I hear you! I've got a tool box where each drawer is what I've collected of some of these brands. No comlete sets yet and some likely will never be completed. I've got Blackhawk, Vulcan, P&C, Williams, Bonney, Harley Davidson, Mustang, Easco, Powr-Kraft and more. Maybe someday... :)

    • @floridarusticrepairs
      @floridarusticrepairs  หลายเดือนก่อน

      lol! I grew up using Craftsman and there's a lot of history to it that I find interesting. I chase it because I build sets of decent tools to donate out to people who need them and USA Craftsman is still fairly easy to find. I want new mechanics to start with American Made Tools whenever possible. I do keep the Snap On that I find. :)

    • @floridarusticrepairs
      @floridarusticrepairs  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I admit that I do have a few of the Craftsman China tools I don't collect them or look for them at the flea markets. Only the older USA stuff. I guess it's because I grew up using it and it never failed me. Not that I don't look out for other USA brands but the Craftsman is easier to build sets with.
