anyone struggling with meditation i would like to suggest something for you guys. perhaps you are leaving your meditation until 12/1/2 in the after noon to meditate, when i started doing it around these times it was a struggle because i was awake and my thoughts were already flying around, i started meditating in the morning when i first wake up or within 30 minutes of me waking, this allowed me to be my complete natural self with my thoughts slowed and more clear. doing this for about a month i have come to the point where i feel i could meditate at any time of the day. don’t try these things once and assume you can’t meditate !

Forestier yeah for sure ! i try and meditate 3 times a day minimum and i have to say my mid day meditation is my favourite also, but, when i was starting with meditating i found it very difficult to meditate and trying first thing in the morning was what helped and made meditating at other times possible :).

daniel wood, I meditate morning and night, but I find morning meditation very difficult to do since my mind is like a high speed train; evening meditation for me is much calmer. I will follow your advice about letting 30 minutes go by after waking up before I meditate. Thank you.

I am gonna go to a silence retreat in a month. There is a total of 7 h of meditation per day. It did not come easy last year. Most of the time I was in my head, wondering how long we had been meditating for, being a bit restless. Someone recommended starting to meditate before you go to make it a bit easier so I am gonna use this.
It's the third time I have done this meditation. I am feeling extremely anxious because of a mistake I made at work yesterday, it was not easy to keep focus but I have calmed down a bit. Thank you for letting us access this for free.
    ----
    Meditate 25 minutes a day.
For a week or better one month just count the exhalations. After that start integrating more body feeling. It is important that the focus comes on its own.

    Thank you!
After more than 30 years of daily sitiing, Soto zen style (very similar), this is (still) helpful. I have been away from a sangha (especially during COVID times)
and this helps connect with a sangha virtually. 15 years ago before I was married and had a kid, I had time to do a sesshin (1 week retreat) once or twice a year. That was wondeful not only for breaking the back of my stress and confused mind, but also for building up my practice for the rest of the year.
I have maintained a daily practice of 40 minutes sitting (full lotus). But recently I exxagerated a bit, sometimes sitiing twice a day due to stress, and also doing stair climbng at home because of COVID. My hips and knees started aching very deeply, so iinstead of my usual 40 minutes I had so much pain I could only manage 20 of half lotus. During a sesshin I would always pass through extreme pain on days 2-3 but day 4 it would pass and I would really be sitting.
For my pain now it's much harder as there is no support form the group. So I have been doing a lot more stretches which is helping. Today listening to this, I managed 35 minutes, full lotus, and at one point was really just sitting (shikantaza). So it was very encouraging. Alles gute, doch toll! Danke schoen.

Fantastic session! Domo, Hinnerk senpai! I've also discovered by practicing counting breaths at first, then visualisation of the numbers of each breath (still focusing on counting), then even to make it more complex (if needed, for the heavy thinkers) counting the seconds of each In and Out breaths, until a natural connection of presence to the body occurs. The natural effect of doing so, negates the possibility of thoughts at all. Ineffably grateful for both of your times in sharing this experience 🙏 I even cried plucking out tension as I had a rough morning start, and this really helped when I settled in the most sincere presence of peace and felt empowered thereafter. 🔥😌🙏

I have been looking through videos like this for help with my mental health. Today was the first time I attempted to meditate and it helped me remain calm but im simply to jittery. I noticed i sometimes have involuntary movements, the movements are similar to shivering. Anyway there were a few minutes where i managed to remain still. I will continue to use this even if i will never be able to to stop jittering because I believe this will help me achieve my goals.

Regarding the many thoughts that fills your mind when you sit Zen meditation, this is how my Japanese teacher taught me at the age of 12. I am 75 years young now. FIRST, you get a note pad and pen then put them down next to you hip so you can write your thoughts down before you start. Keep in mind, SATAN = HATE and CHAO"S, GOD = LOVE and PEACE. This will help you know who is helping you or hindering you. Start by telling SATAN that you will be meditating every day so since you are in charge of your own life and mind, tell me right now what is it you would have me do when my meditation session is over then write down all that comes to mind and when you runout of chores, say are you sure? then SATAN will come up with more so write them down and once you have your list tell SATAN to go away because this is my time and I AM IN CHARGE. CHAO"S from SATAN will become less and less until he stop's bothering you completely. GOD will never bother you because he is LOVE with a smile. Good luck with your journey into a life of bliss.

This is a great video Chris thank you for doing it, and it is my favorite type of meditation at the moment! I would love to go to one of his retreat; If you have any leads to where and when they are and if they are in English it would be great to know. Thanks Nasreen

When Hinnerk mentions three aspects to meditation , one being count the breath and the second body awareness, what is the third. does he mention this third component else where?. Excellent video and instruction
